    I’ve had my crestie Buttercup for over a year now and she’s 6 years old. I highly recommend investing in magnetic or vertically mounted hides. Buttercup’s favorite is the coconut which hangs in the corner of her tank, which was your idea!

    My top recommend is definitely a timer (smart timers are great because they can usually be set to turn on/off at your local time’s sunrise/sunset!) Any light sources should be put on a timer to allow the gecko to have a proper and regular day/night light cycle! I feel it helps my lil guy a lot. He always can be spotted out from his snake plant sleeping spot (looking for food) soon after the light shuts off every night!

    Thank you for making this video! You have no idea how useful this would have been for me a few years ago. I did a lot of research before I got my crestie but I didn't find any good information about their lighting requirements, most saying they only needed some light in day to help their day/night cycle, and from what I saw I thought they needed less space than they do. I think the bioactive setup I made for him was really good but I now think that it is a bit too small and needs some better lighting. Thanks to videos like yours I'm now planning to upgrade him to a tank that's bigger and has a screen top so I can add a uv light. I really think this video could help out a lot of people who are trying to do the research to know how to give their future pets a good life.

    Great video!
    I have a quick question if that's alright: I have a 30x30x60 (tall) exoterra enclosure for my 4 month(ish) old crested gecko. I bought the gecko two weeks ago and I am not entirely sure yet how to do it with lighting/UVB. I use the compact light armature from exoterra, with a 13 watt UVB (5%) bulb, but the issue is the heat it emits. This is the lowest wattage I can find here (in the Netherlands), and the temperature at the top of the tank easily reaches between 27 and 28 degC if the lamp is on. I also use a USB fan like you suggested, and it's blowing on the outside of the tank to cool it off. The temperature remains then around 26 degC, but I think it's still too high.
    What could be a good solution to this heat issue in regards to the UVB requirement they have? Constantly run a fan? If the fan is blowing down in the enclosure (through the mesh), won't the enclosure dry up very fast, as well as increase the chance of respiratory issues for the gecko?
    I feed three types of complete Pangea diets and crickets (not dusted) so it should get the vitamins (especially D) and calcium it needs, but the gecko won't utilize this fully unless it has UVB, so replacing the UVB with a low wattage LED doesn't seem like an option either. Any thoughts? :)

    One thing I would add to this list is if you live in a climate where it get really hot in the summer you should invest in an air conditioner for the room their kept in. Before I had air-conditioning I had a really stressful time keeping my crestie cool when it got over 90 degrees Fahrenheit indoors, and hotter outdoors.

    Rebecca I just had to share this with you and everyone. I was in my local Petco last week (to get something for my cat) and to my shock and horror I saw they have a male chahoua. He was was 50% off (reduced down from original $800.00) and of course he was in a totally inappropriate set up. I asked one of the employees about why they had him and she said, "...oh yeah he's half priced because most people don't know anything about chahouas. He's pretty sassy because he doesn't like to be handled." I left the store feeling sick to my stomach. Even if I could've afforded to "rescue " him from Petco I know that doesn't solve the issue.

      Aww poor gecko :( a local store here had a reduced one because he had an overbite, clearly at some point he didn’t get enough calcium and d3 :( I just hope someone experienced buys the geckos from petco.

    Hello! So I watched a leopard gecko vitamin and calcium need video! And i have a question!! I recently got a leopard gecko and i just want to make sure i know what im doing :) so i purchased calcium that contains vitamin D3. And in the video you said for baby and juvenile feed calcium five times a week and D3 twice a week. So for the five days, should i feed the calcium with D3 and then purchase a separate D3 supplement for the other two days? Thank you so much! Your videos are the ones to go to!

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 роки тому

      Dust with calcium every other feeding and multivitamins every three feedings. One supplement needs d3 unless you use UVB (which is ideal).

    do you think its safe to use a u v light for my gecko even though I feed her pangea which has d3 in it I can't find anything about it, I would love to provide a uv light for her but I don't want to give her to much the only diet I can find without d3 is the arcadia one which I cant find in the u.s what's your opinion thanks also the deep heat projector is awesome my gecko loves cant recommend enough

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  2 роки тому

      Yeah it’s a difficult one because it’d be great to have a d3 free diet, however the good thing with UV (if you provide shade too) is that the animal can decide if it needs to top up on vitamin d. What’s interesting is my Chahoua will lay out under it, which to me implies that maybe the diets don’t contain enough for him. As long as your gecko can access it, but also move away from it, you’re giving them the choice to top up, if and when they need it :)
