Get real sir, Mr Mckenzie. A massive influx of migrants puts great pressure on an outdated infrastructure of any city, especially if the national government is milking the system. Despite this the DA has tried. Those areas mentioned, could be just as every other so called "white area" if the ethos and pride was given to the place they lived in. I remember in the 1970s when Mitchell's Plain was first constructed before it was inhabited, it was beautiful, trees, parks, a hospital, municipality, nice homes and gardens, especially constructed by a well known overseas company. Great effort was put into the area. When I went back in the late 1980s, I was shocked, it was trashed, no trees, hospital filthy, the parks unkempt. And that was apartheid, when we did have services. It seems like it all depends entirely on the persons. Unfortunately, we always blame someone else instead of getting off our big bums and picking up the filth around our own homes. The Chinese/ Japanese/European nations work, South African sit and wine about their lot. If those young unemployed children stopped slouching around their communities and cleaned up their lot, maybe the area might smell better, and maybe, just maybe the crime rate, rapes ect might reduce. "Idle hands are the devils tools" Oh forgot...... it not their duty!!! OK so live in your filth. In the 1990 when the ANC had the WC the services deteriorated big time, we the homeowners started cleaning the areas around our homes. Yeah, the white people, some had gardeners, we didn't. But we worked!!

The big influx to the WC started when the influx control laws were scrapped in the mid to late 80s. I saw it with my own eyes. It first started as a cultural Xhosa ritual where young Xhosa men would live on their own in the field. Faces covered with white stuff. They would setup a temporary shelter from black plastic bags. A time went on it became branches and later it became corrugated iron plates and that is how the squatter camps started.
Every beautiful place will rot if its residents are not empowered economically, people know build their own houses if they have the money and land, you do not need to build for them, never undermine people to your imagination, let the people free

I admit that I initially fell for his antics. He seemed like a pragmatist while in the Karoo. He didn't play the 'politial game' that you see other politicians involved in. If you expect South Africa to recover from its current failed state, you need to get all its people taken care of, no hand outs, but like Hersov said, start with the most essential Maslows need, feed & water the people, then move onto electricity, housing and security rapidly. But feed all of your nation. And if you have never had no food like Kolisi at time, you won’t understand how disgusting it is to leave your people so poor, ANC have neglected its people, given an opportunity to make good what the Nats also failed to do. Start form the bottom, as distasteful as it may be, put the youth to work to build the country through paid conscription rather than the current hand outs by government. This is the thing : Politicians like Gayton see politics as a game / competition between politicians. Something like an Idols competition. I do not think our political party system is the ideal way to go about choosing our management teams, but whilst we have this system, there is no doubt that the DA put in the most work towards saving South Africa from the parasitic and toxic ANC / EFF.
The DA has been fighting on many fronts for a long time and embody a set of values that South Africans can live with, while upstarts like Gayton only came on the scene recently and seem to be in the game for himself only.

I have heard many times that people ask why whites dont go back to where they came from. We CANNOT go back. We do not have other citizenship or passports! I am the 10th generation from both my father and mother's side. This is my land and my family has been in this country for longer than most black families living in SA.

As someone who lives in a suburb of the City of Cape Town, I 100% agree that the DA is not doing a good job, his story about the DA comparing themselves to the ANC is spot on. However, he is completely out of his depth when it comes to describing the problems the DA face in the Western Cape and tries to make it out as if the fix is easy. Sorry but as much as I am looking for someone else but the DA to vote for, it won't be this guy

@AYANDA261 what I'm saying ayanda is that if you think voting for a PA government is going to improve the lives of the poor in the western cape you're mistaken. If they cant maintain the high standards set by the DA then investment and confidence in the region will decline which in turn will cause revenue to decline and the first to suffer will be the poor. Money does not grow on trees it is generated by economic activity and presently the western cape is attracting more than its share because it is not governed by the ANC. This confidence results in more revenue for the provincial govt. You seem to one of those people who believe that poor people are poor because of rich people.

What I'm trying to say is while maintaining the structures of the rich, let them improve the lives of the majority by providing services as well. You can't run a province by only providing services for the rich who are in the minority and expect the majority to still vote for you. Gayton is not gonna get majority of the vote from the rich, but the poor who living conditions have not improved. He is tapping into a new market base of which unfortunately is the majority. Politics is a game of numbers.
I'm not advocating for PA by what their doing with the ANC either.

The transfer of funds to the poor areas that are constantly receiving new people fleeing rural poverty represents 75% odd of cape towns budget but hey if thats not good enough for you try voting for someone else. In the meantime take a look at the squatter camps in the rest of the country and blame them on the DA too.
