This is one of the most brilliantly written songs I have ever heard. She's using a 7 count measure for the chorus and versus, throws in a single 8 count bridge, and then tosses in a 3/4 waltz count towards the end. I LOVE LP!

This song reminds my of my parents love. My dad passed away from cancer almost 10 years ago and my mum ached to be with him every day. She made the most and enjoyed life. Myself, my daughter and my mum traveled to our home country where we met long lost family and learned our heritage. It was an amazing time. We spoke about my dad everyday like he was with us. But through it all she ached.
My mum passed away last week and although I feel like my heart is ripped open again I take comfort in knowing my parents are together again at last.

Mariah Carey is objectively one of the most talented singers ever and she’s a fantastic songwriter too. That being said I LOVE LP. But if you think Mariah Carey is only famous because of her “being half naked” then you are ignorant. Not trying to mean, I just can’t stand when people attack Mariah when there’s not merit to.

However, in my humble opinion Maria was a 'screamer', some of her earlier performances were notable but that so called cut-glasss high pitch she used to reach was as appealing to me as nails on a chalkboard. LP is in a totally different class..her high notes are mellow and operatic, Maria just made me wince...(I write in the past tense about Maria as her 'talent' has not been consistant as she's aged and someone less kind might say that as her voice has deteriorated, so has her taste in clothes...although as a woman, I do feel far too much is made of what we wear)....I understand you are a fan of MC but we can't all like the same things or else the world would be very boring.. :)
Lynn Hamps totally agree!! That’s fair. Mariah’s* range is mostly what I’m talking about. Talent wise, no one has ever possessed a voice that is as rangy, besides maybe Minnie Riperton. Mariah also has lots of colors to her voice between her clean belts to raspy head voice. LP’s upper chest voice is out of this World and Olympic level as far as vocals are concerned. Love her so much!! However my dad thinks she sounds like a dying cat. Annoying!! Haha. So believe me, preference and diversion of thought is always welcome with me. It’s what makes the world go round.
When people say my generation listens to terrible music (I'm 14), I tell them look up LP cause thats what I listen to. This is what deserves to be listened to, not Selena Gomez and Meghan Trainor.

+Jocelyn Lawrence The age doesn't really matter. Every generation thinks that the generation(s) after them listen to terrible music. I had it said in regards to my generation (I'm 31) and my parents had it said by their parents. As long as music and people are around this will always be a "problem" (it's not really a problem, more like prejudice). People should listen to what makes them happy, even if it's the most mainstream music ever. Life's too short to concern yourself with what others might think.

It has been a while since I've seen this other worldly...POWERFUL-POWERFUL music video. My word does this wonderfully gifted, hard-working lovely Lady sing and perform on a level up there in the stratosphere. There are alot of great singers out there, but I TRULY believe that LP is on a totally different level. My word is this wonderful Woman on a TOTALLY different level. Just.......WOW!!!! Wowzers. This is songwriting, talent, vocals.--a Performer at Her Best! This is firing on all cylinders. I have never had a favorite artist, because songwriting comes first to me and there are many great songs out there. I have artists I always tend to appreciate ,but no favorite--ever. But if I had to pick an artist--it would be this lady, because the talent is across the board. She is Flawless Perfection. Top Top Tier here people. And it's All Her--no production manipulation.
