Rudy! By FAR, the most helpful, calming, and thoroughly instructive video on the internet for trimming our beloved dog. Calming? Yes! For us owners, the Covid-19 has prolonged good hygiene/grooming of our Cav with the closures, and we were terrified about trimming our dog. Really appreciate your repeated emphasis on that 'flap of skin' on the inner ear. Invaluable. Thanks to your calming voice and instruction, we bought electric clippers and are confident. Rudy, watching your video on ear maintenance trimming, was as soothing as a Bob Ross painting episode!!! So helpful. Thank you. 😃
I love the idea of using the snap on first to see what you’re working with. He’s a beautiful boy and you did an a amazing job on his ears!! Thank you for putting this video out there!!!!
Thank You C D, I don't do it all the time, but with dogs with a lot of ear flap,or thick congested fur,I try to go in steps, and then go in with a 10,or a 15..I know you know what i mean,If I'm a bit nervous on a certain dog,I like to move slower,to lessen the chance of cut,or nick..As always,Thank You..We love you..
such a sweet boy. I'd be so agitated if I had to listen to the clipper noise so close to my ear, but he is so accepting. Kudos to you for keeping him "under threshold" in the tolerance dept.
Thank You so much Jaye..The clippers seem a lot louder, then they really are..When we do our videos,I wear a lapel mic,and it is very sensitive, and picks up all the sound..Thank You so much for watching us..
He must have felt so much better for that. Very informative, thanks. 3 weeks ago I acquired my first king Charles 12 months old. This is his 3rd home already, and his forever one.
I can't believe how good Hudson is while you're grooming his ears. My Blenheim literally won't even let me run a brush through his coat. My other Cavalier, a ruby, loves being groomed and enjoys the attention. Thank you for the video. Perhaps with a small dose of Benadryl, my boy Danny will be more cooperative, and I can take care of his poor ears.
I have a cavalier and because of current events my family isn't able to take her to her regular grooming session. This video really helped me to groom my dog. Thank you so much for this video. :)
Great information regarding the skin flaps on the ears.Have two cavs with different coats and at no time did any groomer point that out! Thanks so much!
Best way to work on outside ears is mars coat king stripping knife. It’s essentially a metal comb and the amount of hair it will take off the ears to get rid of the matted ears is amazing. I do not like the idea of shaving the outside of the ear. The comb even helps reduce a lot of the excessive hair in the inside of the ear then just shave or trim the ear hair blocking the canal.
My favorite breed and my favorite podcast all rolled into one!❤️ This breed and their hair varies SO MUCH! Some has thicker fur than others. My cav has very light feathering. This one is a lot like a cocker.
Bethany Kay,Thank You so much for your kind words..Your so right,We see them, with either really thick coats,or thin..Either way they are all adorable..
Hi rudy, another Perfect job you did there. Lovely shaped ears and makes him look like a puppy. Well done Hudson you are a good boy and look Beautiful. Look forward to the nxt video. With love ❤️💙💜💚💛🖤🐾✂️
this really helps I’m planning to get a cavalier and I plan to groom it mostly myself starting at a young age since I was training to be a groomer until covid hit and I know how some dogs can be when they’re not used to grooming.
As the owner of a Cav with very similar ear fur, those matts almost magically appear and the dogs do NOT like the tugging it takes to work them out, no matter how gentle the owners are. Same goes for the “bloomers” under their tails. We finally started taking our pup to a groomer because they have the equipment and the know-how to hold a dog in place so they can freely use both hands. At home, I have to take advantage of my dog napping in order to groom sensitive areas and only get a few minutes before he’s had enough and moves away. Honestly, I’m in awe of the owners of Cavs with the iconic, beautifully long ears!
Would it not be better for the owner to just keep them brushed and combed? It seems the ownder wanted it cut not for maintenance but for their convenience.
Such a shame to shave cavaliers they have beautiful coats, my cavalier is 7 and has a long coat and ears, once you start shaving them you have to keep doing it
Amanda I know it makes them look older as well when they’re shaved, I don’t know why you’d want to shave off their beautiful coat they end up looking more like a beagle than a cavalier, I just tidy up the ends of my cavaliers coat with thinning scissors so he’s still long but looks natural, I hate to see them groomed and they’ve got that harsh scissor line
All of you don’t know a thing about dogs. It’s whatever is best for the dog. Just because YOU like how something looks, doesn’t mean it’s comfortable for the dog. You shouldn’t own dogs at all if you are so superficial about them. Idiots.
His ears won't mat up IF you would run a comb thru his ears everyday like you comb your hair daily!!! The ears will need less maintenance on Grooming Day
Great job I love how patience you are with Hudson😊👏

Why would the owner let this matting occur?
