Honestly, not sure. If I was guessing, this is the vertical engine block that I modified to become horizontal. I may have missed a metal shaving even though I cleaned it thoroughly multiple times. That shaving got in the oiler hole for the rod and from there eventually into the "bearing". That is my only guess.
Fun to watch. did you pinch your finger on a closing valve? I did that, it hurt! Sounds pretty good in the end, did hear a little popping, but you did address some issues that may cause it? Nice video, and God Bless!
LOL, actually I was turning the flywheel by hand. I already had one side put back together with the spark plug in, while I waited for the new rod. Once I installed the piston and rod, I was turning the flywheel to be sure the torqued rod wasn't going to bind. Well, it was on the compression stroke on the opposite side and it came free when the valve opened and my finger made its way just under the corner of the magneto and sliced off a corner tip of my finger with nail. All good now today. The popping, I believe is the carb. It clears out with a tiny bit of throttle. Not bad enough to worry about at the moment. Thanks for the comments!
I have a set of "42" 18hp pistons if you need them. Does help to hook the starter up. Where do you get the carb kits from? I have 3 carbs that I need to rebuild.
@@larrybl I try to find OEM ones on eBay but typically settle for aftermarket ones with them or amazon. I think I got one once through pro parts or partstree once as well. Not sure as that has been a while.
Nice to see ya out in the garage.
Thank you!
I’m glad that you didn’t have to put it to 16 hp, what would cause the rods to get torn up like that?
