I wonder if you ever heard Bill Connors? Of RTF fame? A lot of guitarists and only so many get their due. I’m looking at my vinyl copy of Axe Victim...he was damn good just possibly the wrong time wrong place kind of thing....plus he decided to kind of switch into a lot of ambient new age music...the critics love but...I wouldn’t say underrates so much as unrecognized...anyway, we got this grest memory...

I saw them at the Palladium in NYC in 1978. After the encore, it was late and being a weeknight most people left. Bill Nelson sat on the edge of the stage with his legs dangling and those of us remaining gathered round. They played for another hour. It was the most enthralling concert I'd ever been to.
Randy Rhoads mentioned Be Bop Deluxe as one of his influences… it’s obvious now when you listen to certain aspects of Bill Nelson’s playing when listening to Randy.
I remember getting my first guitar when I was about 11. My dad handed me a chord book and then gave me a stack of old vinyl, at the top of which was Axe Victim. "Mandatory Listening. Not Optional" he called it.
I had to bed my dad for a guitar when I was 14. I'm now 63 and I still play everyday and playing has took me places I would never go to and meet people I would never have met . Your dad was trying to point you in the right direction .Be Bop .... Great band with a superb axe man .

As an Aussie - I love it also for Charlie Tumahai (who actually hailed from NZ) - he sang on a great single titled Golden Miles for a band called Healing Force in the late 60's. he also played with a legendary OZ Blues band called Chain - and another brilliant live band Fiends. A huge contributor to music in many countries - sadly no longer with us! Not for one second that mean I don't love Bill nelson (one of the great underrated guitarists of all time) and the rest of the band. Thank you for posting!!
Bloody love this. Jimi Hendrix once said, "You have to give them something to dream on, so they can hear it again". This band did that and I think they would have been one of Jimi's favourites if he'd lived as he loved sci-fi and weird stuff. And great guitarists.

I was just a kid and young teenager when BBD were about, so I missed them. However, I have listened to all their music and they are heaven-sent! I have bought the Red Noise album and Bill's solo work from 1979 to 1982 which is still pure genius! And from 1983 onwards, I have only listened to a small portion, and everything Bill has created is wonderful. He is truly, Yorkshire's greatest musician!!!
Bill Nelson needs more recognition for his talent. This was a great band! I wore out Live in the Air Age (on white vinyl) in the seventies. Thanks for this treasure.

I saw them play under Yes in I believe 76in Seattle; I remember thinking only a band like Yes could finish the concert after a band like this one. I have been a Be Bop fan ever since! Nelson plays a fantastic guitar. Interestingly, Be Bop like Yes had a fantastic stage setup.

@@thepub245 I must disagree. The first 4 Roxy Music albums were sheer creative brilliance. "For Your Pleasure" and "Stranded" are two of the greatest rock albums ever made. Bryan Ferry is a genius songwriter. Roxy was 10 years ahead of their time. Bowie may have been a big admirer of Bill Nelson, but it was Bill who was influenced by Bowie. You can hear it quite a bit in Be Bop's early stuff.
Wow what a treat to see and hear Bill Nelson play. He's a great guitarist and really lights it up playing live. They're "live in the air age" album had some smoking stuff on it. "Adventures in a yorkshire landscape" was one of them and the other was "shine" Thanks.
I saw these guys many times in San Fran. I think they were one of the best bands ever. Their live shows proved that and Bill is still my favorite guitarist EVER. YES I love EC but Bill burnt the house down with his speed and fluid playing.
I never got to see them live as I was a few years younger than you, but did catch Bill in a solo show at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach... 1983? I remember him saying between songs the next one was going to be an older song... the crowd went a little crazy... he said "calm down, it's not THAT old" :-D I think I still have the ticket stub somewhere. Wish I had been a bit bolder and tried sticking around to see if he'd come out after the concert to chat with the fans. Wish I'd known about his Nelsonia shows in England, also. Would jump at the chance to go see him play live again.
I saw this tour, Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ. They opened for Styx, but I was there for Be Bop and they were awesome! A lot of people walked out on Styx, myself included.
Killer guitar tone. Reminds me of Lou Reed Live with Steve Hunter. Frampton's Tone too. All around the same year. must have been the year for killer tone guitars live.
I can only agree with what has already been said it really is from a time when musicians could actually do it for real live and was lucky enough to see them at Newcastle city hall many years ago and I still love them.
Nelson may not enjoy talking about his BBD days so much now, but it doesn't take away from the brilliance of the music they released back then. This entire concert needs to be remastered and released.
I stumbled upon this a second time, a year later.. Man, I truly loved Be Bop Deluxe. So underrated for such an amazing band.. Especially the Sunburst Finish album, it's like a chunk of time from my life that I forever hold dear. These guys could jam like nobody's business. Just..Magical! ;) Thanks again, Pentalgorythm. (My "Part 2 annual" input" for this video. Expect me again in 2018? LoL)

Awesome. I only wish that what preceded this, ("Blazing Apostles" - the full song), had been included in this video footage, for it's one of my favorite BBD songs. Before the multiple CD box set of Live! In The Air Age came out I always wondered how the rest of Blazing Apostles sounded (it was faded out on the album), wow! What a concert closer!!!

Always was underrated "for sure". Out of the hundreds of concerts, I never got to see Bill play live. But I'll tell ya he was the embryo for both glam and new wave rock-right along side Bowie.
I was in college in Spokane in the mid '70's and discovered BBD from the Live! In The Air Age album as a college radio station DJ ( ahhh, KWRS, good times, good times!) in '78 so it breaks my heart to hear they were there and I missed them! 😭
I saw Be Bop Delux at Loughborough University in the mid seventies and they played an instrumental solo called "Watch this space". Has anyone else heard of this?, it was like, Hendrix eat your heart out. I would love to hear it again.

I found Axe Victim in the album bargain bin of a local store in 1975 , liked the cover and have been hooked ever since.

Bill probably got the idea for the suits from Bryan Ferry. Bill was a huge Roxy Music fan.

Seen them at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in 1977. I was a senior in high school. I can still see the show in my mind. Amazing!

Great stuff. We saw them 5 / 6 times in Chicago. Either as a support act or 2nd on a triple bill. Always on top of their game !

Anyway, BBD was awesome, saw them twice at Winterland in SF, pretty sure it was this tour, then for Drastic Plastic, great shows, god bless Bill Nelson.
