Great tips! As someone has already said, super glue works great. Once you get the hook through, add super glue to both ends of where it comes through the plastic. It not only helps it last longer, but also helps with hookups, as it doesn’t slide down the hook. These baits are fantastic!
I use a extra large scewlock and the mustad 91768 jig hook 1/0 for the 2.5 and 4/0 for the 3.5.When the head of the bait tears out i just melt it shut by melting over a candle and my final tip is if you get the tail bit off use a small srewlock swivel and small willow or Colorado blade and screw into where tail was
@@KruiserIV they hold up reasonably well.I usually use this technique till the weeds get to bad by fouling the blade then I will run strands of skirt material thru it similar to a geecrack imo
After mine are torn up I find the center of balance and simply run a 3/0 EWG hook right thru that center point and fish it completely wacky, like you do with a Senko stick bait. If I'm fishing deep I'll add a 1/4 oz sinker above the hook. Falls slower than traditional rigging of the Tanuki. Works for largemouth and even got a surprise 5 lb rainbow trout on it.
No problem man! Thanks for watching! Since posting this video I discovered that they actually make an EWG hook with a bait keeper that MIGHT help or MIGHT make it worse.
I just picked up the 2.5" & 3.5" at the local Dicks sporting goods for about $5.75 a pack. I fish pennsylvania & new jersey, and i feel like i catch more on the 2.5" texas rigged, no weight hook only.
Always been the down side of the Yamamoto baits, expensive, and they aren't very durable at all. I do really like that O ring idea! That has to be the best "hack" I've seen. Gotta make them things last any way you can. Thanks for the shout out homie! I hope you enjoy those Magnum Neds!
I run a 4/0 gama spring lock hook for the big tanuki, got a 5lber yesterday on my first flip along the pier, i also ran the spring under some mend-it to lock it in.
Great video full of helpful ways to improve too short a life for a $1 each bait, thanks. I was researching many of these helpful videos in preparation of giving both 2.5" & 3.5" baits a go. I heard one video presenter who hadn't thought to use Owner's Beast EWG screw-lock hooks, but confidently promoted his belief that the 4/0 would work well (for the 3.5"). I haven't though heard any feedback from anyone who has actually had some experience using them. Also, I ran across Eagle Claw's Lazer Sharp EWG with keeper (like those used on flipping hooks). Mustad also has a Trokar version of this same or similar hook in a more heavy duty version called Trokar Extra-Wide Gap Magnum Hooks with Baitpin and Z-Bend. Have you had any occasion to use or hear about those hooks for the larger sizes ?
Awesome tips 💯🤝🏼. Try this if you ever get a chance Lucas, i use a Dr slick brass bobbin threader, and some old jig skirting, and put that through the bait, and its nice 🙂. I use to do it to stickbaits but this is got the perfect body for this modification😊.
Screw lock on a 4/0. When the screw pulls a small plug out, have more 4/0 hooks with over size screw locks by VMC to fill the hole and grab material. This guarantees me two fish per bait.
You super glue the bait to the Ned head. When Texas rigs super glue, the front tip let dry, then run your hook through it. Super glue it wear it tears, super glue it to all lead head. Did I say SUPER GLUE
Screw lock hook!!!! The O ring makes it look horrible lol and also puts weight on the nose yoi dont want when rigging weightless you want the bait to be equal so it flows down horizontal as it was meant to do. Ways to repair is easy, mend it when out fishing and use actual plastisol when at home. Just buy a small amount of good clear soft mixture plastisol (soft plastic making plastic) microwave he plastisol as directed, stir then just quickly dip just the nose of the yamatanuki in the plastic to create a new thin layer plus melt the existing plastic back together. Youll save a bunch over time becuase you can also do that trick on any soft plastics the nose gets torn on.
Gluing, welding, shrink tubing, wacky rigging, toothpick fixing, wire screw reinforcing....the old art of extending the life of Yamamoto lures. Try to imagine how important was that to us from the countries that had wars...sanctions...poor incomes, but great love for fishing. :)
They are made softly so they have a good action and catch fish As a high school tornement angler who saves money where he can, I’ll fish with Yamamoto if they catch them and they do Save money on a punching bait or something you fish with a heavy weight

How many blades do you use this way? I can’t imagine they stay in that plastic long, or at all if you catch a fish.

Great tips Lucas. I need to get onboard with this bait.
Thanks buddy! I know how tough it is to break away from the confidence baits but man this one is a new confidence bait for me now!
Man thank you for this. I love this lure especially the 2.5 but they go flying off the hook so easily. Definitely trying the O ring.

At 81yrs I've learned don't waste your money on other brands, only buy Yamamoto lures.
I can agree with that statement!
We should all meet up and fish sometime. Id love to get a nice circle jerk going with you guys
Fantastic tips Lucas. I’ve gotten out with the yamatanuki a couple times and they do not last long at all. I’ll definitely be trying some of these 👍🏽

To get even more uses. I split the tail into two and reverse texas rig it. It'll reverse fall this way too.

Owner cultiva hook with the cps centering pin screw head 1/0 does the job on the 2.75. 15 fish on one bait today.
Fantastic! Thanks for watching 🤘🏼
The O-Ring is probably my favorite of all of the tips.
However, I plan on rigging it Ned style like you did as well.
That is…if I ever fish again. 😂

You so right about that they do not last long
No doubt
Nice tip. I will have to get some o rings and i think the 5/0 is too big.
Thanks a lot for stopping and watching! Let me know how it works out for you!
Or you can just take a lighter and melt one side of the split and hold it together just like new or you can carry some Mend-it and use it
A lighter is something I need to add to my tackle. I have bags of o rings but I can see where a lighter would be handy
Does this bait have salt in it? I notice that bait that have salt does that.
Yes it does!
I think z man needs to make an elaztac version that will last all day. I dont like plastics that dont last.

I bought me to pack of them do not like them they tear up too easy
They do for sure but this should help
Their baits are made with soft material so it won't last long on purpose. We quit buying any Yamoto baits because of that.
