It took us several hours to explore this place, Chateau de Savigny-les-Beaune, an old chateau with several collections inside and outside. Racecars, motorbikes, models, tractors, and fighter jets. According to the website it's the worlds largest private collection of fighter aircraft. Thanks for watching!
I would think that Kermit weeks, in Florida has the worlds largest collection of aircraft, but he doesn't have every thing that this Museum has in other categories.
Many thanks for this visit! Just to help understanding some topics - sometimes local or typically French in this great eclectic collection ;) 0:45 One of the first automobile petrol engined canots ever: Tellier (even French people often don't know these things). Tellier drew hulls for French military seaplanes, some used by the US Army in 1917-18. 4:59 Test model indeed, of a Leduc statoreactor (hoped to become a fighter plane in the early 50's). Statos are good engines for long cruise missiles... 4:54 Noratlas French transport airplane 6:30 Tractors to farm raisins, needing "high legs". 12:30 Mirage three "A" - means it's a prototype. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring everything! Thank you for the information and the timestamps, much appreciated! I will spend time looking up and reading more about these things for sure.
Glad you got some enjoyment out of the video! We love history with a bias towards machinery and architecture, however we're both novices when it comes to identifying rarities. we've been learning every time we go somewhere but alas, there is some lacking. Cheers!
Wow, this museum grew! My father took me there about 40y ago and back then (as far as I remember) it was only motorcycles and 1 or 2 aircraft. Especially the yellow bike in the back at 18:48 really impressed me as a kid. Thanks for posting!
A fantastic and ecletic collection, some of the items very well preserved and some less so. The effort and dedication to put that together and maintain it beggars belief.. Very interesting vid..
The name on the Crusader cockpit is Joseph "Hoser" Satrapa, a legend in the US Navy fighter community. Flew F-8 Crusaders, then F-4 Phantoms and F-14's. After retirement he flew for Cal Fire flying water bombers, fighting forest fires. Rumour has it that after Hoser died, Snort Snodgrass took his ashes up in an A-4 Skyhawk and spread his ashes over the Nevada Test and Training Range at Nellis Airforce Base. If you ever come across a picture of an F-15 with a gun cross hair right on top of the F-15 pilot's helmet, the crosshair belongs to an F-14A being flown by Hoser.
@@yeahprobably tidbit about hoser. After his thumb got blown off in a gun handling accident, he had his toe transplanted to his hand so he could keep flying fighters.
Also used by the french on their aircraft carriers. Ironic fact, being called "the last Gunfighter"; it still has more "kills" with missiles than with the cannon. Predominantly achieved during the Vietnam war.
A truly awesome place, completely of my map, until now. Alas, I'm unlikely to ever visit. Except vicariously... so thx! YT, the internet, the "information age", despite the inherent amplification of the less savoury sides of human nature that they illicit, does equally amplify the good sides. Though these are less noticable... for some inexplicable reason. Are we, these days, just trigger buttons, aching to be pushed for another fix? 🙂
I've been there twice, an amazing collection. Its a shame the aircraft are being left to decay as much as they have, my last visit was several years ago and they didn't look so bad back then. I'm sure they could afford to preserve perhaps a couple a year with a clean and a paint job !
I agree. Hopefully continued preservation is in the future for the aircraft. I would love to be able to go back and see fresh paint and sparkling glass someday!
From what I've read, Mr. Pont was lucky to acquire his F-16A from a Belgian General whom he was acquainted with. If the story is true, the American Ambassador was involved with the transaction and it took some time and patience before he finally got it.
They can be bought, but without engines. But if you're savvy enough, you may be able to scrounge one. Heck, he's even got its gun on display inside (The M-61)! Back in the late '60's, a guy by the name of Daryl Greenameyer bought 3 surplus wrecked F-104's (back when the militaty was still using them), was able to build 1 that was airworthy out of all the pieces - then went out and set some records with it! May not be as easy to do now, but it can be done...its only money. An F-14, however, forget it.
Odd i am planning to visit in September just noticed a Tecalemit sign in the Abarth museum a new guy has just joined our team and he worked for Tecalemit.
we've wondered this ourselves at all the places we've seen cars on higher floors so far. As far as we can guess they have a freight elevator somewhere that's hidden away.
Guinness World Records says it's the largest private fighter collection in the world. Truly a walk through time capsule of sorts. Did he have the F-16 then in 2015?
First, thank-you for a most interesting view into the Chateau and its collections. Secondly, it was most frustrating to discern the basic "who, what, and where" of the video's subject. Thirdly, I am realizing that your video probably would not have been so intriguing had it been a professionally produced and edited upload. Leading to my final thought which is to say thanks for a most interesting quirky bit of viewing pleasure!
Thank you for the comment, this is very fun for me to hear. I Am glad you found the Chateau enjoyable. That is the reason I started doing this: in order to share with people who may otherwise not be able to experience some things. I generally do not include an intro or outro, nor any explanation on screen. I prefer to think of the camera as if it's a window that UA-cam is looking through as we go places. I do however always list the location in the video description. I am not a professional and everything I do on this channel I've learned as I continue to make videos.
This is Chateau de Savigny-les-Beaune. It is on the northern side of Beaune, which is itself southwest of Dijon. They have a website, and it's easily found on Google maps. Ample parking and very reasonable entry fee.
I went to this place something like 15 years ago, my parents live in the same region, I am very pleased to see that it's still available to visitors ! I had heard some worrying things about owners not knowing if it would continue to be open. Would have been a waste, maybe it was just rumors. In any case, thanks for the memories comeback, glad you enjoyed ! Take care ^_^

Some lovely aircraft just rotting away, unloved 😢 should be under cover and preserved! A Lightning, 2 types of Jaguar, Hunter, Starfighter, Corsairs / Crusaders…. Such a travesty….
Instead of putting these planes down to decay as a rich guy's ugly lawn ornaments they could have been given to schools to inspire, and train students in electronics, engineering, mechanics, hydraulics, aerodynamics, and who knows what else.
They'd most likely have bern scrapped, and here you and anyone else can see them, it would not have been possible as you suggested if they'd gone elsewhere.

Unusual to see something as modern (even early gen) F-16 in private hands, particularly of US origin?
