You are a great teacher. I only throw occasionally but have been doing it for decades. This morning I washed a pitcher that is the perfect size for one can of frozen orange juice, and I saw the year I made it was 1981. It is important to sign and date your pieces. If for nothing else, think of the archaeologists in the future who might find your pot. hahaha
I agree. The only problem I have is the occasional customer who when seeing the date on the bottom will ask for a new piece. As if the date makes a piece old in a shop display. So strange.
You are a really good teacher. Other pottery videos I've watched don't explain things as thoroughly as you do. Thanks for sharing your knowledge so freely. And can I just say? I love listening to your voice. Very soothing.
Delicate and stylish creamers and milk jugs with breathtaking and joyful colours as you get us used to staring at. Again and again the best to my eyes. Let us know more about works for that new window. Best wishes from El Pedroso, Sevilla, Spain.
Great tutorial on making pitchers! The colors and combinations of glazes are always spectacular....your kiln unloadings never disappoint. Such a treat for my eyes!
Some spectacular run results. Always fun to watch and listen. Just had our solar panels re-installed yesterday after having the roof re-shingled. Cheers...Freddie
Hi Freddie, we are getting a new roof and solar panels installed in the fall. We are also insulating the house completely. Wood stove installed in June.No more oil and gas if we can avoid it. I feel so bad for Ukraine. Stay safe.
Very exciting about your solar install. So pleased to have a level headed man at the helm who has had a lot of experience in world affairs. You and Jackie stay warm and comfortable. Cheers...Freddie
What a treat as always. Always excited to see a video notification from your channel! Still waiting for my mug. I don't think it's going to arrive. Such a shame. I've got my eye on something else so if it comes will order I will order. Thanks again
I think they can take 8-9 weeks to arrive. The mail is very slow here too. Let me know when it arrives. I will look at my shipping book tomorrow to see when I mailed it.
Very nice brown glaze in the beginning. I love the way it breaks on the facet edges. Very successful glaze. Maybe you can develop other colors using this base.
I have put the slow cooling program in recent videos, the Ten Moku Gold. It is generally ramping down at 140F to 1750 and soaking for 30-60 minutes. Different glazes need different timing.
The secret is to dab a bit of butter on the edge of the lip, oil and water do not mix so the butter breaks the surface tension of the water and stops it dripping. Tricks of the trade. Stay safe .
I love creamers. My grandmother actually collected small pitchers, so I have a ton of them. I’ll have to figure out a way to display them nicely in my small home. Your dark blue looks very similar to a cobalt blue that I love. Your color combos are excellent, as always.
Well done. I’m going to try adding that little piece of clay on the inside bottom of the handle. That an area where my glaze seems to get tiny bubbles or pinholes. Maybe the added surface area will solve this. Thanks for all your tips
@@Vsmithpots oh thank you so much. It’s been such a mystery trying to figure out the bubble issue. It’s weird that it seems to occur where the pieces join. It’s maddening that process of elimination
@@sheilacarroll3981 I think it is because the glaze gathers there and thickens. Bubbles are gases which indicate boiling in the glaze. So try the little bit of clay in the gap before lowering the firing temperature. Good luck.
Great video as always, Vaughan! With the first one you took out of the kiln (at 36:10), you mention that it's mouse grey with variegated blue and then oatmeal on last. Is the blue on first with the mouse grey over top? Or is the mouse grey on first with the v blue over top? It's a nice combo!
I love your videos as they are so helpful. I have been throwing my mugs etc on clay unfinished tiles as I am not good at cutting off the bat. Is this something that you recommend? What are the pros and cons of throwing this way. Thank you.
I think you should try throwing pieces with a thick bottom, about a centimeter and then try cutting through the way I do. You can even get some pot lifters. If what you do works already stick with it. Thanks.
Thank you for showing your process. I have learned a lot and plan to try and make a few pitchers. How do you grind the bottoms? Also, do the kiln stilts leave holes in the glaze on the bottom?
The stilts leave a small hole and need sanding or grinding depending which glaze is on the piece. I have a grinding session coming up in video this week or next.
When I try to make a foot wirh my GG and it’s not centered 😫. When placing my pot on the GG I move it around so that I get it centered - you just placed it in the GG. Don’t you ever get one arm to hit the pot b4 the other 2? My reason for moving the pot around so they all touch at same time. End result not centered foot. Hope that’s not confusing. Ty
Hello I have a question,if my wheel is not level will that make me throw unevenly? Trying to figure out why I can't pull a level wall. If you can help that would be great.
The wheel is not the problem, alas it is always the technique. I have a beginners throwing video you should watch, it is good for intermediate too. It looks so easy to throw even forms but is so difficult to accomplish. Good luck.
@@Vsmithpots thank you and I also know my wheel is a bit to tall. My husband made me legs to get it up but a little to high I'm going to trim down so they are level with my legs.i can't get over top of the wheel to center. I figured that out as well. So a little tweeks and twirls and I think I can get it. I'm enjoying your videos very good at what you do. Thanks again and stay safe and healthy

Mouse brown/grey first, Var blue second and oatmeal over both in the top half of the piece.
