If j is taken negative, then multiplication is done top to bottom and then subtracted(just like what we have learnt). But either way you get -16 only. The question at 50:00 can also be solved just by taking the magnitude of the given vectors and then using pythagoras theorem to prove its a right angled triangle as square of one side is the sum of squares of the other two sides in that triangle. Idk if its considered correct or not but really took just a minute. =)
