I beleive if one is a diy person any car is reliable to him. I am diy person just basic engine and transmission oil change, breaks, spark plugs and fluids.. thats 90% of diy. If one can do it diy one can save 90% .. it is easy. The new mercedese are dealer addicts. I have 2018 gle and 2021 gla I do diy stuff. Dealer ask 350 for oil I do oil change in 50 bucks. Costco oil 38 dollars and filter from Amazon around 10 bucks. I like classic looking mercedese like you driving. I am planning to keep as long as I can... thanks for the video
After owning six M-B of various ages, I've given up the hobby of working on and maintaining them. They've become too complicated (electronically complicated), and too expensive to buy parts for. Even used parts are expensive, difficult to source, and some are now coming from Lithuania or Ukraine.
If your friend spent 5k on a 2010 S550, he should understand the 5k was a down payment. LOL! There are thousands of rea$on$ why LS460 resale values are higher than S class values.
It's about following the guidelines that benz puts out. Now do you have to do every A and B one no. How do you drive? I have a S550 W222 2014 25k on it. I have to do allot of maint that was listed at 40k miles. beacuse of the age. Its a heavy car, the struts and control arms dont last over 100k if you drive hard. I also agree about putting money away every check for maint on any car. It's just smart.

A good code reader can help a lot on the newer ones. But they can be complicated.
