This skit is hysterical because it's making fun of the way Blossom always made a big deal out of everything. Every minor dilemma was treated like it was a major issue.

Did Blossom rip off Clarissa Explains it All, or did Clarissa rip off Blossom? I've never been able to figure out. I know Blossom was on the air first, but the original intro wasn't the version that is being parodied here
I don't know. Besides this Blossom skit, there was no real use for her. I think she was Tori Spelling a few times. Vanessa Bayer seemed to fit better on the show.
For anyone curious Joey Lawrence did have a video and an album out. I think they did actually premiere it after an episode. The hit single was called "Nothing my love can't fix!" It's a fun colorful video. He does rap in it too with my favorite classic lyric, "Something something me and you , 'cause baby you been acting like I smell like a zoo!" LMFAO that is classic! This is the best Blossom skit.
Mayim Bialik was furious about it, too, because she wanted to record some music herself, and have it featured on the show. I remember the episode; at the end, Joey falls asleep on the sofa and "dreams" the music video. The song was produced by Steve Barri and Tony Peluso, two of music's all-time greatest producers. And the missing lyric from your comment: "Cause we were meant girl, me and you"...

I went back and watched Blossom recently for the first time since it aired (which I was like 8-13 when it aired and always watched it) and I totally remember watching the SNL this was on and seeing them both all these years later, they nailed it
Melanie mentioned on the Fly on the Wall podcast with Spade and Carvey that this was the one sketch that haunted her because it poked fun at a then teenage Mayim and she heard it bothered her. Melanie said years later she saw Mayim at an audition and apologized to her in tears, and Mayim responded with "You are released!" (something to that effect) and bore her no ill feelings.

The over dramatisation of the show is spot on. Everything Blossom did was drama. The nose was probably in poor taste but Mayam’s nose is quite prominent and SNL capitalises on making fun of actor’s features and quirks.

I think it's more that it's a very prominent feature of that particular actress and it made the parody way more funnier than it otherwise would have been
They didn't have many other options at the time. Julia Sweeney couldn't pass as Blossom or Six. Jan Hooks maybe. But Melanie was definitely miscast here.
