Thanks for reminding me of what I use to do for YEARS growing up. We didn't have alot of $$ so we used the natural, organic, everyday items you normally have in your pantry...Like mayo, honey, eggs & coconut water mixed together (islanders normally have a coconut laying around their kitchen). Leave in your hair while doing housework (chores as a kid) next rinse with beer or ACV whichever you have more of... & then end with a rosemary tea rinse... & that was the once a month deep conditioning routine.. other than that it was just water washing. Of course what you put IN your body helps too! Why on earth did I stop doing it? Chasing one after the next YT video for the next lastest & greatest... & my hair has suffered. No more. Thanks for taking me "Back Down Memory Lane" ❤ me some Minnie Rip! lol.😄

Renate Seldon Yep that's how our ancestors did it in Africa; they had no products except their bare hands, fruits, berries, clay, shea butter and tropical oils from the coconut and palm trees.

I love the Water-only washing method. My hair is the same, but I've seen other hair types do the same method. I've realized that the God has provide everything we need for our hair, in our sebum! Our hair does not need all these products and complicated regimes. To cleanse, I simply use diluted apple cider vingear and lightly scratch my scalp to get rid of build up. It solved my dry, itchy scalp problem. For some people, it may take a little longer for the sebum to reach the ends of their hair. You just have to be patient, and smooth the sebum do with every water wash. The rewards are worth it. Sebum is your conditioner, detangler, moisturizer, oil, and gel in one! I'm so glad I came across this method, and I'm glad you did too.

    1. I separate my hair into 4-10 twists (depending on my mood).
    2. I message, scritch, and preen each section for a total of about 10-15 mins.
    3. I scritch, detangle, and preen each section under warm running water and retwist each section.
    4. I run cold water over my twists to close the cuticles.
    5. I lightly dry off my hair with a t-shirt
    6. I apply a very little amount of argan oil to my ends (only when I feel my ends need it)
Then, I'm finished! This has been the simplest and cheapest regimen I have EVER used. My hair has never been healthier! With this regimen I have been wearing a puff mostly. Now that I feel like I have full sebum coverage I am wearing my hair out more and my coils are poppin'. I use bentonite clay or ACV when I need to remove build up or excess sebum. Also check out "Wateronlyhairwashing" here on UA-cam. Let me know how it goes :)

How often do you rinse your hair every week? I ask this because I want to start doing this WOW but I cannot wet my hair often as I suffer from sinusitis. Can I do this rinse once a week?

I have 2c/3a hair (I'm white), and I've put nothing but water into my hair since April. Before that I was washing with oatmeal water and using natural oils. I cannot believe how healthy and beautiful my hair is. Incredible! I just used henna from mehandi and my hair is drop dead gorgeous. I'm just so damn excited about it too!!

Waterwashonly is a youtuber who is very informative with this technique. And something I have notice is very few know about sebum and how it works to condition and moisturize the hair. Once you get full sebum coverage, the hair clumps natural and the coils are more define. I too love bananas, honey and also avocado. I usually combine them in a high speed blender and make enough to do a hair mask, a face mask, and a great healthy smoothie. And in some coconut milk for the protein. And to help with the sebum production just add in Omega 3,6, and 9 to your diet by eating fish and orange/yellow veggies.

I have been trying this water only method for about 4 months now - best routine ever! It really works and I do not have to worry about the irritation some products gave to my scalp. It really makes you feel like you have been lied to by companies. They tell you buy this, buy that! but after all we just need to learn our hair and keep it as simple and natural as we can.

You hit the nail!!! Shampoos and even conditioners is not good for our hair. I use bentonite clay and a mixture of banana/slipperry elm as my detangling conditioner. My hair thanked me! I make my own gel out of flax seed and slippery elm. Thanks for sharing. Here are my recipes:Detangler Conditioner
    4 Large size bananas
    1/4 cup olive oil
    1 cup slippery elm gel
use blender so the product comes out like a smoothie
    Slippery Elm Root Gel
    6 cups water
3 tbs slippery elm root (the cut and sifted)
boil until it becomes gel (takes 20-30 minutes)
this makes a large batch- I freeze and store in 8 ounce containers

I just finished trying this out and let me tell youuu, I LOVE THIS STUFF! I used exactly what u said "banana baby food, honey, olive oil and rinse with warm water" my hair was curling up in a beautiful curl pattern, like if that's how my natural cursl are suppose to look like. After I rinsed it my curls were still poppin! No frizz, no tangles, it was just stunning and absolutely BEAUTIFUL 😭👏🏾😍❤️ thank you Rachelle for making this video it really helped A LOT, I feel more confident about my natural hair which looks exactly like yours (fine 4A hair) you and I have the same hair problems but you help me with mine so much. Now I know my hair journey will be even more successful

I understand your excitement. I was sooooo happy when I figured out my wash and go for my 4a-4b fine hair. Combs and shampoos ruin my curls. Water, conditioner, fingers, and styler is all I need. I used a cleansing cream every 10 or so days because I get an itchy scalp.

I've been thinking about doing the water-only method for some time now. But I haven't done a lot of research. I have been cowashing solely for a year and it has helped my dandruff drastically. I hadn't seen a flake for close to a year and I recently got my hair straightened and they used a sulfate-free shampoo. A week later I had huge flakes of dandruff. I think it's because I have sensitive skin. I've even stopped using lathering cleansers on my face. Noxzema works so much better. Thanks for sharing your experience and your hair looks great!

I have the exact same hair type as you do and I have also been doing the water only washing and I've had similar results...Just clumped curls for days and my hair feels amazing. I use ACV rinses once a week, left in for 30 mins then rinsed out because I swim a lot. But water only washing has changed my life. Best thing ever! Sometimes I use a bit of eco styler on the mid shaft to ends if I want longer lasting results but nothing except water touches my scalp.

I'm on my 3rd month of no shampoo. Everything you do, I do. Everything you said I agree with. I have no dandruff, no nothing. My scalp feels fine, my curls are nicely defined and my hair just look so healthy. Everyone asks me what I do and they don't believe me that I just use water. I use curl enhancing smoothie and gel by sheamoisture. I shake my hair out and bam. I just let it air dry through out the day and my curls still stay nice.

So happy you found something that's working for you. I can pretty much co-sign everything you said. I don't have any "recipes" lol but I've been doing Water-Only since Sept., and finger detangling for years. In my experience, finger detangling is far more gentle and disturbs my curls (4abc) less than a tool; it allows for natural clumping actually. Water-Only has been great. The sebum really does soften the hair and is a perfect "product" (holds definition better than anything else I have in this humid weather); it also helps the curls stay in form. My hair has not suffered from it and neither has my scalp. I used to rinse daily, but life caught up to me and now I do it once a week or every 2 wks. Still works. BTW perhaps the video you saw could've been from Wateronlyhairwash or BeeForTheOddBalls. Your hair reminds me of theirs and their videos helped me a lot in starting out (among a few others).

Hi everyone I don't know how old this video is but I just wanted to let you know. Omg I tries water only once before it didn't work. I tried it this week and omg. I have stopped using shampoo for a week. then I deep conditioned last night over night. I then sat in a shower for over an hour and preened and preened the entire time. when I say I had full sebum coverage in an hour. I want to cry. my hair has never felt like this. my hair is not frizzy, it's is the softest I've ever felt it. I am a level 3 hairstylist for the last 12 years and never ever ever have I had the joy that I feel today. I have to add I live in a hard water area in England London. money is no object with me and my hair. and I swear as there is a God above I have never experienced anything like this. I was about to stop rinsing and preening ay first didn't feel like anything was there but I sat there and continued and I felt the thick wax from my scalp start to move. I parted my hair into two sections two buns and worked on one side at a time. Annmd I'm reeling you by the time I was finished the curls the softness I cud cry. I finished with a Rapeseed oil rinse just to protect my ends but if u cud feel this on top of the sebum omg. I have never made a video in my life but this will be the only video I ever do eventually. I plan to do this every other day or every 2 days just to allow my hair to harden up in between to prevent hydral fatigue. but omg and I've been natural for about 6 years. I'm crying I'm telling you. anyways hope this helps. oh yh I think I'm 4a4b4c mix all in different areas. I know to much going on with this one head. medium to fine density

+Mycreation13 Using coconut oil as a prepoo prevents it from occurring, it's the only oil that can be absorbed by the hair so by prepooing it with coconut oil, water will be prevented from entering the hair and causing damage.

    • @Prov31Beauty-Seeinglassfull

    • @22Unlucky
      @22Unlucky 5 років тому

ranoka every oil can be absorbed by the hair. Indeed, when someome has high porosity hair and need to retain hydration they shoul first wet their hair and then apply oil in order to seal the water inside. If they do otherwise, they are preventing the water to enter the hair strands because the oil has already filled them.

My hair seems to have stopped growing as well and you termed it perfectly..."you went natural but its as if you cant wear your natural hair"
Thanks for sharing I am going to follow your tips and let you know what my results are.

Awesome info!! I have been comb and brush free on my fine, low/med. density 4a hair almost a year (June 23, 2014). I never thought I could do it, but it was a game changer. Now water only washing is new to me. I think I will give it a try. It is all a mindset, changing how we are programed to take care of our hair.

Lol gir your hair looks gorgeous we have the same curl pattern, can't wait till mine gets the same length. I've been making my own conditioner for about 9 months now, I can't tell you what a difference its made. It's like night and day nothing I have bought from the store every made my hair as moisturized and strong. My curls pop and I've never had that before. I put all kinds of stuff it it. At first I could not get my curls to pop. I used to wear a lot of weaves and due to my fine hair it stripped it and was sooooo thin and broken. I now only co wash, I don't comb or brush it only finger detangle helps to do that under water less breakage. I put a banana in a blender add honey, I buy an aloe leaf and scoop out the Aloe, add extra virgin olive oil. About once or twice a month I add an egg for protein, I can't tell you how much its helped with thickening my hair back up. My hair is now longer than its ever been in my entire life mid back cant wait till it gets even longer I have major shrinkage.

hey Rachelle!! I love your videos!! Your hair looks awesome!! Congrats on finding something that works for your hair! I always tell people to look on youtube and find someone who's hair is similar to theirs and go from that point! Twists and protective stylings do not work for me. My hair sheds so much when i wear those styles. For the last 3 months, i've been doing the Dickie method, which is basically a wash in go done in the shower, it works for me!! Again, great video and thanks for sharing your tips for natural hair!! ;-)

thanks for this, really makes me the the sudden improvement to my hair is not a figment of my imagination.
I stopped shampooing a month ago and started washing 2-3 x a week either Water only washing, rinse out conditioner cowash or honey/ molasses ± ACV. I still DC 1-2x a week either with store bought products or a variety of the caramel treatment
my chronic dryness issue is gone, with a little aloe Vera gel and oil my coils are Fantastic x
I think you are FANTASTIC 😘

Yes! Your hair is beautiful. I'm a natural 4A too and you have the exact curl pattern like me. And that single strand knot stuff. OMG! I thought it was just my hair! Thank God you mentioned that. And thank you so much for the water washing advice, b/c since I've been natural (which is for years but tex-lax mostly until this year) I've been co washing only, and just recently I've used the Dr. Bronner's for washing out any thick residue. But, I will most DEFINITELY check out the water only washing. Thx again!

OMG... I am so thankful to you for this video!!! I have been struggling as well with trying to wear my hair natural... I can do the twist outs, but they are so much work and they tend to poof up so quick, it's hardly worth the effort sometimes... But that baby food mixture works like a charm!!! If anybody has any doubts... DON'T... please try this. Because I have 4b hair, I decided to tweak this a little.. instead of as a DC, I substituted the honey for gel and once I put the mixture on... I rinsed very lightly to preserve the curls... yes, I had banana in my hair, but with the gel, it was nice and moist looking, even though it felt crunchy... the crunch also helps it to last longer. Like you, I felt like I could finally wear a wash and go on day one... This has changed my natural hair journey, so thank you so much Rochelle- (I hope I spelled your name right).. Love you!

I share your excitement. I did water only washing before and my hair LOVED it. I Started again the third week in Nov 2016, i wore twist during the week washing every day and wear my hair out on Sundays. Yesterday i pree poo with castor oil then wash with Clay and my hair was looking just like yours, clumped, shiny, curls popping. I was on cloud nine. I then rinse with rice water. i intend to stick to this method i LOOOOOVE it. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I agree with you. In the last few months I've realised my hair is the boss and twist/braid outs are a no go, it only wants to stay defined 24/7. Water washing only worked great for me but a yogurt/cream based prepoo works great at eliminating my breakage and can't just be rinsed without leaving my hair smelling like baby vomit so I'm back on the shampoo and only shea moisture (pink) works for me. Thanks for sharing :)

I am so happy I found your channel. Your hair is just like mine. I don't use combs or brushes either & detangling is a breeze. Now I have never thought of water washing my hair, but I'm going to try it out. Since I've been doing the tool-less detangling I only use two oils in my hair jojoba & mielle organics mint almond oil. thanks again for this video.

Hi I'm so glad water only hair washing is working for u. It is amazing to realize we have most of what we need already produced from our bodies. I have been doing water only since last year some time and i still use it. In the summer i like my wng to last a little longer so i do use conditioner in what i call a modified version of water only. Yes the banana baby food has the right ph for our hair to cause the curls to clump and to moisturize them. Your recipe sounds awesome so i may try adding raw honey and olive oil. Thanks for sharing ur experience!

When you DC, does that disrupt the progress(clumping) and it's like starting over again? Does it work if you only use shampoo on your scalp? And to maintain the look since you didn't use gel, do you have to wash it everyday to stop tangling? Thank you. Also your hair is gorg btw.
