    This Himiway Rhino review will show you everything you need to know about this 97 pound, dual battery, long range electric bike packing 1440Wh of "juice in the tank" paired up to a 1000w rear hub motor capable of outputting 86nm of torque pulled through it's frame integrated 25A controller. And if the standard version of the Rhino ebike isn't enough power and torque for you, there's an upgrade option for the Himiway Rhino Pro version available which comes equipped with a mid-drive motor offering over double the torque for exceptional hill climbing and towing ability.
    Himiway states the Rhino ebike can get up to 100 miles of range, which is more than double what you can expect on a "normal" ebike... but, what are the trade offs? In this video we'll explore the Rhino fat tire electric bike and see if the sum of the components offered justifies the $3,000 price tag. If this Himiway Rhino review is helpful please give the video a like and drop a comment below.

    Himiway reached out and told me the final product that will ship comes with a 1000W motor on both the Rhino (hub drive) and also the Rhino pro (mid-drive). The bike in this video was a sample Rhino with a hub motor stamped 750W.

      That's greedy middleman markup pricing for you. I would understand increasing the price 250 to 500 for setting it up and making sure it works and convenience of having it available in person + some sort of great store warranty.
      These businesses have the gall to double, triple, and even quadruple the price. That's how they end up getting a warehous and storefull of ebikes.
      Makes me want to hand out informative flyers in front of the stores.
      I see people trying to sell used ebikes for around brand new prices you'd find online. Victims of local markup
      I got a 750-1000peak watt 20 inch fat tire 32ah ebike hydraulic brakes, 2 year protection for $1400 brand new. You can even get better deal than that with smaller battery or sales.

    A long range bike with flat mountain bike aggressive handle bars makes no sense to me, or common sense for that matter..I don't want to be slumped forward for 5 miles let alone a 100 miles, it's alot of pressure on your wrists..I want to be sitting straight up on a long range bike...The brake cables, display cable, etc., are probably not long enough to fix that problem if trying to raise the handle bars and then change them with something swept back or BMX style, which is what this bike should have..Alot of company's are understanding this, but many are not..That kind of handlebar set up is for trail riding, it's not appropriate for long range riding...I really like the bike other than that, but that is a deal breaker..After checking the price, there is a more severe deal breaker, they are not going to sell many of these, I suspect..There is alot of competition out there that make this bike almost impossible to choose, IMO..

    • @TailHappyTV
      @TailHappyTV  Рік тому +2

      Good points you bring up. The geometry of this bike will certainly help get power from your legs down to the pedals, which will optimize range. The swept back handlebar bikes are more challenging to get power to the pedals, but are more comfortable. One good thing for comfort is the front suspension on this bike felt great, and with more of your weight put on your arms, the front suspension is where a good chunk of your body mass sits. This should make a big difference in comfort. On the cruiser style bikes where all your weight is on your butt and not on your arms, your back takes all the bumps if the big tires and your legs don’t absorb it first. This is the comment discussion I like to see here, what do you guys think?

    • @jimmyjames8736
      @jimmyjames8736 Рік тому

      I think that people who want a dual battery hub motor bike plan on using the throttle a lot. Optimizing pedal efficiency probably less important than comfort to them. But I don't usually worry much about that stuff since different handlebars, stems, and stem risers can let you customize the fit easily and cheaply.
      I think that this Himiway is the best looking dual battery bike I've seen. My dual battery cargo bike looks like it was designed for the army to use 50 years ago.

      @@jimmyjames8736 I go for long rides, live in the middle of the Adirodack forest, so I like dual battery bikes, I have two of them(homemade)..On long rides the mountain bike position is painful..I've built many E-bikes for people, almost all mountain bikes, and have added risers and different handle bars to many of them..Factory bikes don't usually have long enough cables so you have to get extension cables for the display, light and throttle, and longer brake cables, which isn't a big deal, unless some other company already manufactures that out of the gate for a better price..We'll see, maybe I'm wrong.. I like the bike alot, just not the riding position and price..

    This is not the Rhino described on the release event on 16th nor the one for sale on the Himiway web site. First the motor is suppose to be 1000 watts hub, with option of 1000w mid drive motor. The bike also comes with a rear rack and has a tail/stop light as well as a new design headlight that is powered by the bikes battery.
    The one critical fact not mentioned on the site or the 16th event was who makes the cells used in the new battery packs. Are the 16850 or 21700 cells and what are the specs for these cells. If they are some run of the mill Chinese cells, run the other way. Himiway has in the past always claimed to be using Samsung 35E cells.

      Please read my comment on another comment in this thread about the 1000 watts. A 750 W motor can take 1000 W of power from the battery and controller. Motors do not create power, they just receive power.
      This is the bike, I guess this one just did not have the accessories installed on it.

  • @mikemorgan8588
    @mikemorgan8588 Рік тому +1

    Bike companies should always give motor wattage as average and maximum. In this case : 750w/1000w max. , and please say whether the motor is geared or gearless. The Himiway specifications are odd. They say the tire is both 26” & 29.8”. The Bafang motor is both a 750w & 1000w, and the Nm should be either 120Nm @750w or 80Nm@500w, yet they advertise 90Nm..
    Telling us if only 1 battery can run the bike would be nice for lighter weight short trips.

    • @TailHappyTV
      @TailHappyTV  Рік тому +1

      I agree, the wheels are 26 inch I believe, perhaps the maximum height of the outer diameter is the 29.8 number. On the unit I reviewed the motor was stamped 750 W, which I believe is the nominal power the motor can take from the battery and controller. The 1000W number I’m guessing is the peak amount that the bike is sending to the motor based on my riding experience with it, and that hub motor should easily be able to take 1000W, I’ve written plenty of Ebikes, that send way more than 1000W to basically the same hub motor. I feel certain that this motor is a geared hub motor. I should probably get a dyno, so I can put each of these bikes on it and measure their actual power output and torque output, that would be epic.

    Website says 1000W motor? 86 Nm.

    • @Goesriding
      @Goesriding Рік тому

      Whats the benefit of 1000w when the torq is the same as 750w? This take off even at full throttle seems very sluggish, like the aventon. Mabe at full batteries its different.

    • @TailHappyTV
      @TailHappyTV  Рік тому

      So the motor does not create any power. The motor is just rated to accept a certain level of power that the controller and battery can provide. The way that the controller delivers power to the motor on this bike is relatively gentle and gradual, which has its pros and cons. The pros of the gentle power delivery is you’ll get a smooth riding experience that does not jerk you around and you’ll get a lot more range on the battery. The downside is when you want all of the power from a stop immediately, you kind of have to wait for it to kick in gradually. Once the bike, it’s up to speed, it will give you full power, I believe that they built it this way intentionally as it is certainly an improved riding experience compared to the cruiser I reviewed last summer.
      Now this is just out of the box settings, and the display could have Settings within it to allow you to change the speed at which power is delivered to the motor. The way companies rate motors can be a little bit tricky, I would say the rear hub motor on this bike could take 1500 W of power from a battery and controller for probably 30 seconds or so without overheating and failing, the stamp of 1000 W on the website is kind of just a vote of confidence that the motor can take 1000 W for an extended period of time without overheating.
      These big fat tire hub motors are pretty tough, I’m actually about to take one out that’s rated for 1400w and I honestly don’t think it’s any different than the one installed on the back of the himiway Bike. The 1000 W number is probably the peak power that they have the controller tuned for delivering power to the hub motor. This is actually very common, and many of my electric bike reviews the motor is rated for 750 W, however, when I take them out for a ride, some of the displays actually show the power output in terms of a number instead of a bar indicator like seen on this bike, and that number will show 999w under full acceleration.
      I hope this rant helps clear up some of the confusion 😆

    • @Goesriding
      @Goesriding Рік тому

      Yea that explains a lot. I have a few himiways and they all have 750w motor but seem to give off different power delivery. I have the aftermarket display that show watts and one bike is limited to 996w while the other one tops 999 but I'm sure its well over if the display had another digit. I'm wondering if you felt the take off on the rhino was close to the aventon or mabe just abit better? Last if you think a 52v 20ah would be better than the dual 48v 15ah set up? I know the range would decrease but would it be worth to just carry another 52v20ah if u decide to add more range.

      @@Goesriding Yes the wattage ratings on hub motors are just the recommended continuous power rating. They can take a lot more intermittently. When you see an ebikes controller amperage listed they will advertise peak amps. The continuous rating of the controller is just half of peak. So a 30 amp controller on 48v has a nominal peak wattage of 1440 watts and rated power of 720 watts. Sometimes a touch more or less depending on the battery state of charge. But that calculated peak is higher than the number you will see on a 4 digit wattage readout. It will usually be close to 10% less on the meter due to efficiency loss. My 40 amp 48v cargo bike has calculated peak of 1920 watts but only displays mid 1700s. Kepler 33 amp 52v calculates to 1716w peak but displays upper 1500s. Hope this helps.

    is this bike made from flat metal folded in a jig instead of being constructed from pre-mage hss tubes?
    if it is you really don't want one because eventually the jigs get drift and you will have a crooked twisted result.
    if the first fold is even slightly off, the second fold will force it square & transfer that torsion into the folds
    resulting in a twisted frame that rolls crooked like a parallelogram
    I returned a walke H6 for this very reason fwiw

      The site says it’s frame is 6061 aluminum, which means it’s extruded as tubes then machined and welded into a bike frame. There are something like a dozen bike frame companies in China.

    We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

The Lectric XPremium for example also has dual battery with 100 mile range, fat tires, hydraulic disk brakes, front suspension, mid drive, is foldable, and is almost half the price ($1599). Even if you didn't like the style of the XPremium, the Aventon Aventure 2 has most of what the Rhino offers minus the range for $1800. This bike on the other hand charges an ADDITIONAL $1000 (so $4000 total!!) for a mid drive.
