Hi Adam just wanted to say thank you as these videos are extremely helpful not just for the processing but knowing what to aim for in the field exposure wise. Thanks and happy new year

Wow, thanks Adam! Didn't know you were doing mine today. 😁
You're a genius! Yeah, I don't use deghost much at all unless I have moving clouds, water, or things like branches or leaves. I always thought it introduced artifacts. Guess I need to rethink that.
And my sensor is 24 megapixels. My next camera is going to be a Z7, I think it's 48 megapixels. (And not because you said so, lol).
I guess in the grand scheme it's ok to have a little bit of blown highlights, like you did here. I'll go back and play with it again. Thanks so much ☺️

Ever since I bought a Nikon Z7 I've noticed how much better the dynamic range is compared to my old Fuji X-T3. I can be quite aggressive with pulling up the shadows in scenes like this with no concerns about excessive noise in the photo. With the Fuji X cameras if I took the same exposure I as the Nikon Z7 I'd have several stops of extra noise to deal with.

You like your Z7? I have the Z6 (shot this image with it) and am most likely going to buy the Z7ii very soon. Very excited to up that dynamic range 🤗

I think using the Tone Curve panel could have been helpful here?

That ghosting settings are if something in the scene is moving and can not be in all HDR shots at the same place. May be it cures the Problems of the highlights here by side effect. Better is to bracket at least 3 images to have more information in the middle for making the HDR or do it manually via luminosity masks in PS. And as you said let the brightest highlights be blown out and let some shadows be blacked out thats what they are for ;)

Adam - did you try just using a luminosity mask on the original shot that was exposed for the highlights?

Enormous respect to you Adam for the effort you put into making these videos. I also admire your work. However, I would somewhat disagree with the idea that a bigger sensor is necessary to capture more dynamic range. This is confounded by the high resolution modes in some of the small sensor cameras such as the Olympus (OM Systems) cameras where tests show the dynamic range achieved is comparable to the best full frame cameras and even medium format cameras. I read a while ago that Len Metcalfe (a masterful landscape photographer who I am sure you are aware of) now uses exclusively two micro four thirds OM-1 cameras after selling off all his full frame and medium format gear. Now I am sure he wouldn't do this if he felt his work would be compromised by using a smaller sensor camera. I would also note that even where noise is a problem, DXO's remarkable noise reduction software (Deep Prime) can generally sort that out.
