Thanks for sharing this Sam. You mentioned my fear specifically. I’ve been an RDA - Registered Dental Assistant for 12 years now. It hasn’t satisfied me enough. The bad parts of dentistry have out weighed the good for me to the point that I don’t enjoy it anymore. I choose dentistry because I felt that it was the safe choice. It served me well while my sons were younger. Now that they are older I have come to the point of dreading going in. I have decided to enroll in Cosmo school because I too as a younger woman I did my friends hair n loved it. I enroll tomorrow and I have a lump in my throat thinking about how much happier I’m going to be. I say that because I believe it is true. Since I’ve made this decision I haven’t told many people in my circle because I want to protect my plan and my mental place about my decision. I have binge watched all of your videos and I found others to follow in the beauty industry. I am very excited to start. I’ve pulled out my old anatomy and chemistry books just thumbing through getting myself familiar again. I too have a degree that I have a big loan for. And too like you it doesn’t seem normal to be unhappy everyday. I’ll stop here and just add a big thank you for sharing your journey.

I've gotten my hair professionally done for about 6 years now and by far the best person to have ever done my hair was a girl who just started cosmetology school and I was like her second person she had ever done hair on. It took like 7 hours but man she paid attention to every detail and my hair was the most beautiful it had ever been! Sadly she moved states so I cant go to her now but guys dont sleep on beginners! you never know!

I thank him all the time because without his support and belief in me, I wouldn’t be successful and absolutely love love my job as a hairdresser. I never regret my education or my job experience. 🚨LONG COMMENT AHEAD lol: So, I just stumbled upon your video today and I want to say thank you. Thank you for the inspiration and push. Everything you said is how I’m feeling now. My mom is the same as yours, she’s had a short haircut ever since I can remember and she’s never worn makeup. Her thing was to go to college and get a 9-5, stay there and retire. My dad offered to pay for the cosmetology program in high school but just like you I had preconceived notions everything cosmetology because of what I had heard. So, I went to college for my parents and wanted to quit halfway through. I wanted to go to cosmetology school then but was told that I had to finish college. I graduated (with student loans) and got a “big girl job” in corporate America doing public relations and communications. I was good at it because it allowed me to be creative but it was never fulfilling and I always wondered what it would be like to truly love my job. Fast forward to today and a couple of job changes later and I’m still in the same spot but it’s gotten worse and I’m tired of being at this place in my life and feeling like I’m living for other people and not being happy. I went to tour a cosmetology school for the second time (I went two years ago and psyched myself out of going and let fear settle in) last week and everything about it just felt right. I’m 29 going on 30 and I’ll be quitting my job and totally starting over. I’m scared out of my mind and everything that is going through my head is telling me to just play it safe with a steady income but my heart is telling me to put faith in myself and trust the process. I prayed and asked God to send me a sign today, and you just confirmed my decision. I don’t know you and this is the first video of yours that I have seen and I truly want to say thank you again. I might even start my YT channel back up and document the process.

I hope this isn’t a weird question but here goes. My mother passed away in 2000 and I dropped out of grad school for psychology and transitioned into sales and marketing. I’ve done a ton of jobs and currently work as a headshot photographer but I feel stuck and burned out.
I’ve considered real estate, selling life insurance, etc.
I am an INFP and am about to start a UA-cam channel. I’m also a former actor. Back to my mother, I keep having recurrent dreams of my mother coming to me with Barber shears. She loves going to the beauty salon as a kid and I was always fascinated. I’m 51 years old about to turn 52, and I’m considering cutting hair!

I’ve been in the beauty industry for 5 years now as a sales rep for multiple brands. I’ve always thought about cosmetology school I’ve always been into makeup and hair. I love my job but it is mainly sales. I want to broaden my skills and start doing hair. I think I would love doing hair. I cut my boyfriends hair and my family’s hair and also used to bleach my own hair for years. My story is so similar to yours. What got me away from it was the money. I know a ton of hairstylists who don’t even do hair anymore. I think those people never truly had a passion for it.
I just dropped all my classes for nursing today. I’m doing a virtual tour of a cosmetology school tommorrow morning. After watching this video you are truly inspiring me to do this.
Do you think already being in the beauty industry and knowing a lot of hairstylists will give me a competitive edge and help with growing my clientele ? I am good with people and being under stress. I know I can do this I just need to take the plunge and start school.

I always hated how we're never encouraged to get into hair/beauty when we're in high school and the stereotype that "you can't make money doing hair/nails/lashes etc". Not only is it a false assumption, but happy money trumps all other types. I went to study to be an esty after getting an MA in an unrelated field and definitely got some raised brows. I think people just get triggered by the uncertainty in other peoples lives and can't handle how you don't begin college at 18, finish at 22 and bam, you're finished forever. Some people are interested in different things! Congrats your loans are nearly paid off Sam, proud of you for persevering x

When I decided to drop out of architecture I felt so lost, but I'd come to a realization that I felt so miserable that literally ANYTHING else I did in life would make me happier, and that gave me the push I needed to actually drop out, go back to studying to get into another school in an entirely different field and my life is so much better now. This video in particular is hitting me at the right time, I'm going to tours and figuring out financial aid, and I'm nervous but I've had that feeling too, "its going to workout" and after watching this, its the extra nudge I needed to know I'm on the right path. Thank you for your sharing your story, don't stop chica!

I'm in my last yr of FINALLY obtaining my bachelors degree in PR but now @ 27 yrs old - i know im still young but - I'm starting to really question my happiness.. it's driving me INSANE!! lol.. and where I am in my life, especially as of lately - It's like- this career change is tugging at my heart, but I put in so much time into getting my college degree.. because mainly of my family pushing me to get it - I've always had such a strong interest in doing hair, more than anything else.. I just wanted to say, this video, among many others you post are sooo helpful, so thank you. This video in particular really is speaking to me on a personal level lol

I found your channel when I was being laid off of my job of 23 years and wondering what I would do with my life. I ended up finding another job that I really enjoy but it has always been in the back of my mind that I wanted to go to cosmetology school. Fast forward another couple of years and I was JUST thinking about “what if” I gave cosmetology school a try and here your video popped up. I’m on the verge of 50 and while I enjoy my job and my coworkers I still wonder what could happen for the next 15-20 years of my career life. Thank you for this video and the courage to look into a change. ❤️😊😘

Your journey and success is so inspiring! And I can definitely relate to feeling scared, apprehensive, and doubtful in the beginning, particularly going back to school after graduating ages ago. I'm currently 35, working a part-time retail job that leaves me physically, mentally, and emotionally drained (with hardly any money to show for it), but customers constantly compliment me on my hair and ask me where I got it done. When I tell them I did it myself (and explain how easy and quick it was), they almost always say something like "What are you doing working here??? Any salon would be lucky to have you!" So, naturally, I started thinking I should change jobs and I've been exploring my (limited) options for attending beauty school and starting my own journey as a hairstylist. I can only hope that I achieve half as much as you have in just a few years. Thanks so much for being such an inspiration, Sam!

Since I was about 13, I thought I wanted to work in the publishing field. I love reading and authorship and although I didn’t have a specific area of work in mind, I wanted to work for a publishing house so bad. I went to college and majored in English. Loved undergrad, and had no doubts about my future. So then I went on to grad school...I enrolled in a program that specified in a Master’s degree in publishing. I took two classes my first semester. Went to one class-loved it. My second class started the following day (and this class was one that went into the ‘nitty gritty’ of this field as a whole) and I absolutely loathed it. I realized so fast that I couldn’t do that for the rest of my life. It was a 45 minute-hour drive for me to get to that campus for night classes and by the end of the first week, I realized I enjoyed that drive more than I enjoyed being at that school. I stuck with it for one semester and I had to drop out by the end of it because I couldn’t bring myself to pursue what I thought was my dream for so many years. I was stuck for several months afterward and that was the most terrifying feeling. Now, I’m taking grad courses to become a librarian. I couldn’t be happier, even if I tried. I’m so happy I stuck with my gut. Thank you for sharing your story! I’m glad you followed your intuition and chose a path that makes you happy!

Omg this is amazing. I have a very similar story. I went to college for 3 years in photography school because I thought that was my passion. And...a long story short in the meantime I was cutting hair as a hobby for 10 years! I soon realized that I wanted to become a barber. My family and friends didn’t understand for one I am a woman and they thought that was weird. But at the same time they were happy for me. I am now enrolled and finishing my last semester in barbering school. So exciting but scared of not having clients after I finish. Can you give advice on what I should do to gain clients after school? I finish this spring. P.s going to school for something that is so hands on during a pandemic has been horrible... I am afraid I won’t be ready after graduation. Thank you for always sharing your story. I always look forward to your new videos. Love from Colorado ❤️

Hi.. Do you know how long it takes to be a barber?
      I'm 47 years old.
I want to do that as a side job.
Stay positive and imagine everyday and say it out loud that you have a lot of positive clients coming to you who love your work....write it down in a Journaling or have an index cards and write it. I watch a lot of Jake Ducey UA-cam channel.

@@aixaalbertz5452 thank you for your comment. It is 10 months of barber school if you go full time. For me, I am part time because I have to work as well and part time school is 13 months. Good for you if you want to do it .... do it! Doesn’t matter how old you are. I am turning 38 this month. If you have the passion that is all that matters. Cheers from Colorado! ❤️

This is so inspiring! I’ve been passionate about all things beauty since a child. I watched my cousin and aunt do hair all my life and always kept my nose in her books while she attended cosmetology school. I started off doing nails which was my first love. As I grew I spent most of my time learning everything I needed to know about all things hair , skin , and nails ! I studied for years on UA-cam and did tons of deep research before I could even think about attending cosmetology school. It all came second nature to me. When I graduated highschool I surely tried to pursue cos school but at the time didn’t have the funds or transportation. I started doing my own hair and that turned into me doing close friends and family to my job lol! I started taking hair seriously at 18yrs old and I am now 24! I never really gave up on pursuing school and this year it’s finally possible on top of what you said in your video! I might not have wanted it as much as I do now that I’ve experienced it from scratch and know it’s for me. Now I can pursue it with clear intention , peace , and more passion. Lately though It’s been so conflicting because I’ve also always been a scholar with a bright future and have the potential to attain whatever degree I want to for a more promising career. VS Having a natural talent in hairstyling and passion for all things beauty. Doing hair has truly been a gift I’ve never asked for as my first love was doing nails. Your video helped me big time on which path to take. Thank you for sharing your story. You’ve instilled much more confidence in me to pursue all the things I want to do, because WHY NOT.

I just stumbled upon your channel. I love your perspective and encouragement. I am changing careers (again). I started cosmetology school in high school as an elective. I got my license in 2005. It’ll be 18 years I’ve being doing hair & makeup. I currently only work by appointment only. Its been a crazy journey. I also went to college to become a psychiatric technician & worked in mental health care. I lagged to get my associate’s degree & so I am going back to school to finish that & continue my education to get into counseling. I agree with you about ignoring the naysayers. I’ve dealt with it my whole life. I’ve had people say all those things about doing hair & I’ve had hairstylists also question why I wanted to get more education in an entirely different field. The answer is “because I can & I want to”. We cannot base our choices on other people’s opinions!!! 💯 congratulations on going after your hearts desires!!! I’m 35 and beginning again, no regrets!! ❤🎉

I am sooo happy you made this video! We definitely dont hear enough people striving for their happiness later in life. I am also a career changer from economist to veterinarian. I totally hear you when you say you had a lot of fear and uncertainty. My friends were buying houses and getting engaged/settling down when I decided to go get another undergrad in science. The people around me were being supportive but I could tell that deep down they didn’t understand and looked down on me (asking questions like “so when do you start making money again? wow in 8 years? how old are u gonna be then?”) starting over just so i can get a chance to apply to vet school. It should never be shameful to pursue your dream, at any point in your life. It took a while but I can truly say that I love my job, yes there are difficult days but I do not ever dread going into work. if i had a dollar for every time my friends tell me “ugh i dont want to goto work tomorrow” i would have paid off all my vet school debt already Lol so all in all, you go girl!!

    • @edward3832
      @edward3832 10 місяців тому +1

That career advisor is a fool. That person has no idea how much a good hair stylist can make. We are talking about 6 figures a year. Women will never stop paying to make themselves look pretty and that comes with a high price. What you need to do while you are in school is to be an assistant for a hair salon (for little money and that could be categorized as minimum wage) and once you graduate you will have a lot more confidence to cut and color hair. Once you build a clientele you must rent a both and be your own boss making the money you want to make and then you hire your own assistant. Trust me you will make a lot of money, a 6 figure salary. Just make sure to be good and be up to date with the new trends and techniques (continuing education).
