Watch next: Rachel Reeves conference speech analysis - "the social democrat Margaret Thatcher" ua-cam.com/video/Y6APtj1IIHU/v-deo.html
Watched this yesterday and was very disappointed. Mrs Thatcher completely downplayed her gender - she was more proud of being the first PM with a science degree.
Obviously, I am not anti-feminist, but I feel this particular speech was not the place for feminist celebration.
Apart from those with humour and regional grammar I will bet the vast majority of the comments here are written by Russian bots. The New Statesman is simpy not this left wing or subject to talking Tory/Kremlin talking points. I'd expect this from Novarra Media supporters. Take care, New Statesman.
Trouble is, if he says sorry, it might come out as "Sausages" again...
Sir Keir does not do sorry. He's too proud to admit any mistake.
Reeves sounds like what the dalaks sounded like back in the day
She is unwatchable!
Has she hearing problems ?
And when was the last time you spoke in front of 10-15k people? The people who are pitch perfect in front of the microphone are not always the best people to be trusted with great responsibility. Trump and Hitler for example!
Except the Daleks were far more compassionate.
You are doing are disservice to daleks.
He spent years criticising the Tories - while he might not be as off-the-rails as Boris, it shouldn't take a genius to think about the optics of receiving such donations.
How difficult is it really, to simply play it safe? Isn't that meant to be his whole shtick?
It's simple. It's just pure greed and abuse of power. no apology allowed. All of them who accepted BRIBES should be sacked
I think it would be more acceptable if the country were feeling optimistic and prosperous. But it’s not a good look when you’re announcing painful cuts. Especially if you ran on a platform of egalitarianism.
@@andybrice2711 I don't think they ran on.a platform of egalitarianism - in fact, they've been very weak on proper Labour/ Socialist values.
Miliband and Corbyn accepted far fewer gifts over their years put together than Starmer has taken over his first few months. That's why the media and rich decided they couldn't win, they wouldn't take bribes.
@@samuelmelton8353 Sure, they're not avowedly socialist. But I still think they presented themselves as social democrats. As being more egalitarian than either the Conservatives or Blair's Labour.
But they're immediately failing to live up to that.
Half the problem is he doesn't even understand *why* he's apologising. They can't understand why we're annoyed.
The first thing they need to re-build is the confidence and trust of the country, the second thing they need to re-build is there own integrity and honesty. But is it too late to just say SORRY!.
Saying sorry is an admission of guilt . Do you honestly believe that the robotic Starmer will say that.
Sorry doesn't cut it. They are hypocrites and should be out of office.
@@georgebain5734 That may be true but have the Tory party apologised for any gifts or grifts they have recieved. NO. Kemi Badinoch owned up to some benefits only yesterday thet she hed been given. This WHOLE issue has been sold to the public by the right wing press and news media.
@@Charlieb6308 Do you honestly think Tory MPs never took GRIFT'S. Johnson was the biggest grifter in Westminster.
I like to hear two words - I resign. What a farce this Labour govt has become - might as well just let the Tories stay on

The mood Starmer has created has been way too downbeat, but the overall mood in the country is now much gloomier than it was in either 1964 or 1997. Blair talked about Britain - 'We may no longer be the mightiest, but we can be the best.' NO ONE believes that about Britain any more. No one seriously thinks this country is the best one to live in, or that our living standards and overall quality of life has improved in recent years. We have become more divided and angry as people have become poorer and watched their towns increasingly run down and high streets boarded up.
The Tories accelerated this decline and division and should never be handed power again. Sadly, I can't see very much changing under this Labour Govt, however. Hope I'm wrong.
You were spot on until your last sentence. Your fears are unfortunately already being proved to be right. Keir Starmer exactly the same as the previous bunch…. I think actually worse!
Starmer isn't listening, in fact is very adverse to any questioning or criticism. There is no sign of austerity going away, as they have signed up to Tory spending plans. So where's the change?
Austerity will never go away because it is simply called economic reality. Something the left always have a hard time dealing with. But, to be fair, so does parts of the right now i.e. Liz Truss. New Labour's brief period of high spending came from 2002 to 2007. It was historically abnormal. No Labour govt in history had ever increased spending like that before. It was only affordable because of remarkably good times economically i.e. global boom. And Labour had stuck with Tory spending plans from 1997 to 2001. So by 2002 we were minted as a country. We had a budget surplus. So turning on the spending taps by a historic amount was doable. We now live in vastly different times. We have an ageing society. We just don't have the money. The question politically is which groups do you want to take the hit? The Tories protected pensioners. Labour, with so much young support, has chosen to take some money away from pensioners. The only way we will have more capacity to spend is if we make structural reforms to the economy to generate more growth i.e. planning reform and house building. Making construction cheaper. Borrowing more money to just spend on essentially social and welfare is not sustainable economically. Just look at pensioners, essentially your spending vast amounts of money to keep the economically inactive alive. Obviously, there's an ethical reason for doing that. But borrowing money to subsidise pensioners will not drive growth.
There is no need for austerity. RR has swallowed Tory lies. Growth and austerity are impossible. Her plans for the economy are straight out of the Tory hymnbook. They have never worked and won't now. I'm not an economist but studied economics and RR is clueless.
in the rhetoric it is wrapped in
You should wait for the budget. You may be right, but should wait.
We don't have any choice. However, their dreary, negative outlook isn't doing public outlook nor investors' confidence any good. We need change, not more Tory nonsense and bad economics.
Reeve looked so smug at the end of her speech. She's was saying about building the country who does she think worked hard to build it in the past and before she was born. Shameful fuel policy
If I was blindfolded I could be listening to the tory party conference..
Er, the Tory party when it was centrist and competent possibly.

The only words Starmer needs to say are " I resign"
🥳 Was hoping it was goodbye
Andrew Marr is an intelligent and sensitive guy, I’m not looking forward to witnessing his increasingly desperate and implausible defence of this catastrophic government as time goes by… so so many will have sever buyers regret but there you are…
Tool maker. The plank
They will never be forgiven for the winter fuel allowance. Never.
I was appalled by Keir Starmer’s response to the young lad, he was protesting against the genocide. He wasn’t beingantistatic.
The WEF don't tolerate dissent.
The misguidance is seen in their ( you-know-who ) craftiness in reinventing terms... " The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper names ".
So now the most important audience for the Labour leader is the Labour party itself? I've got this weird memory of the same people in the liberal media telling us that Corbyn's problem was only speaking to supporters/members not the electorate.
I wouldn’t trust none of them
Starmer I fear has already failed. His despondent message has meant people have stopped spending so growth, small as it was, has stalled. The constant message and long preparation for tax increases and spending cuts has also slowed growth. If implemented they will prevent growth. His pay settlements to the public sector without reform prevents growth. Proposed employment rights reform will prevent growth - costs will go up and flexibility will go. The non-dom tax is already leading to wealthy folk leading again acting as a drag against growth and will not raise the money expected. The public school fees tax ditto as people leave private education and push up the cost of state schools. The taking away of winter fuel allowance saving will be wiped out by increases in people taking up pension credit. He has had 5 years to come up with a plan for growth and so far its just words with every action preventing it.
Sausages . He said we must return the sausages ! ……..starmer supplied sausages by Walls ?
Couldn’t organise a booze up in a brewery !fact .
NARCISSISTS
Growth cannot be achieved by taxation and removal of freedom of speech in terms of critical debate. Best Labour get a grip of the basics ahead of pipe dreams otherwise.
RR hit the nail on the head with 'working people', God help you if you're not
If nothing else, liebour have actually proved that crime pays extremely well !!!
Currently in Slovakia - formerly part of Czechoslovakia. Population predominately white and unchanged for decades. Not a mosque or mouse limb in sight. No pro-Palestine marches. Clean and well maintained streets. No drug dealers cruising the streets. No woke nonsense. Freedom of speech. No beggars. Little crime. Absolutely superb.
Only when you travel do you realize what a s-hole the politicians have made the UK.
Will Keir say sorry to the pensioners before moving on?
Yep fair play 12 wks he's definitely changed the country Labour make me puke
Whatever Starmer has to say, he will have his fingers crossed behind his back!
we dont forgive and we dont forget
Nothing like childish spite to keep you stuck 🤷♀️
Starmer , Reeves and Raynor are professional grifters.
As were Johnson, Truss, Sunak. I’m not interested in your opinions.
@@Steve-wb60 He probably isn't interested in yours, or your petty whataboutery. All Labour have offered so far is sleaze, cronyism, grifting, hypocrisy, and desperate U-Turns, all while shafting the vulnerable, can't still peddle narratives of a variation-on-a-theme-of the "but, but but the Tories" Overture.
TRUST. The distrust between citizens and politicans, in between the politicla parties, in authorities and personal motives for people in power... Trust has to improve.
Starmer is one of the worlds biggest con artists
Constant growth in a world of diminishing natural resources is not possible so a new economic model is needed.
Its call growing other parts of the economy and investing for growth. Ohhhh nothing new there...... meanwhile uk closes steel plant as india opens its a massive steel plant. I guess that is where our steel will come from. MADNESS

Back hand Kier would make a good actor
*Starmer and his cabinet are Tories.*
I actually really like Andrew Marr, but I can't listen to any of this stuff any more. Most of what comes of out of most politicians mouths is round-of-applause seeking question avoiding blah!
Andrew Marr is a traitor. He's a yes-man to the government!
Ahhh come on we don’t need clickbait titles from the new statesman! 😂
I don't think it was 'sausages' right?
So the New Statesman is a Starmer apologist.
Starmer has discredited himself and his entire Labour Right movement through his lies and dishonesty. If his policies are so great, why does he have to lie all the time?
Yes, he must say 'Goodbye'.
Sorry for having Muslim Paymasters…
Starlin Starmer!
Watching reform conference. . . tough act to follow.
Let’s see - I’m willing to give Starmer a little more time. But I think I am in the majority who are going to be extra critical.
The left will swing green, the right will swing powder blue. And the Tories and Labour be damned.

Words are cheap. Leave Winter Fuel Payments alone.
Grubby, greedy animals.
You are a victim of the Tory press. Small time donations are not illegal, and have existed forever. Get it in proportion, this is not Boris doing up No 10 for £112k.
Where was the same outrage over Tory gifts for 15 years? Gifts should be banned outright, and more transparency when it comes to donations and jobs for the boys. But, i say again, where was this same level of media scrutiny when the Conservatives were doing the same, and much worse?
Growing FOR WHOM
Everything is broken, and Starmer wonders why everyone is still upset. Nationalising the Water companies would be a good start, basic infrastructure fixes like potholes and maintaining proper upkeep would also make a difference.
The Labour Party desperately needs someone of Alistair Campbell’s skillset.
He should use the word toolmaker.
Two words need to be spoken about by Starmer, Illegal, Immigration. They can be spoken about separately. But they need to be spoken about. The country doesn't need to hear BS about smashing the gangs. We need to hear that we are full up and we are going to put the people of this country first. He needs to say sorry for trying to gaslight us by calling them irregular. He needs to apologise for being prepared to talk to everyone in this country except the working class. He should also apologise for giving the impression that he cared about British people, just people that have spent all their lives here and thought this was their country, only to have government after government do what's best for big businesses rather than them. Blair started this decline, and it's going to take a proper man or woman to stop it. I don't think that Labour have that amongst them.
😢
I'm pretty sure what we actually need is a politician to say "fearmongering about immigrants has no basis and is used by frauds to keep themselves in power".
I don't believe one word this government say's, imagine 10 long years of this lot, I'm 73 and I was better off under the Tories I just want them out.
I wasn’t. I wish you stood up for us when we were screwed over by tories. I’m worse off. Child poverty has tripled. Homelessness doubled and the NHS ran into the ground. I wish you had something to say then rather than wait till just you were effected.

Andrew. If you are so keen on what Rachel Reeves said, can you please explain the constant reference to 'working people' - seemingly in contrast to everyone else. I am retired now but this is my time in life to put everything I can back into the community including doing all sorts of things in both the community and public affairs. Am I irrelevant - am I not wanted - because I am older? I am beginning to think that and that my commitment to progressive thinking and activity plus my ideas is not wanted in Labour's Britain.
Well said. And don’t forget your/our lifetime wealth of experience.

All well and good but what’s the plan for growth. Fiscal rules and austerity hasn’t worked before so why is it going to work now?
Marr should have been the Prime Minister. Tough as a coffin nail.
Working people are the only people of importance? Explains the winter allowance decision anyway.
It is beyond me how these old geezers think they need extra money when they have an annual income of £12,600. I mean they are not working people so why should they get anything?
The front row must be congratulated for staying awake during Starmer's speech. If talking utter drivel was an Olympic support the English would be on the podium all the time.
Narrator: But Starmer did not say sorry and his party did not deliver economic growth ...
He's not taking money from the poorest pensioners though - hence the means testing. But yes, the freebies don't sit right as far as feeling like this party might represent a change.
Theresa May called to say Reeves needs to return her Robot fancy dress outfit ASAP.
Resign and call an election
Don't insult the working class by calling yourselves the Labour Party, We can all see it should be called the Islamic party
The C word?
Most definitely 😂
When we have a mainstream media who much rather stir the pot discussing free gifts, than to help everyone to discuss policies/direction of government then nothing will change.
Deflection is also an excuse to cover up a terrible government
@@Charlieb6308 How are you deciding a terrible government that hasnt even executed a budget yet - unless its Truss and that budget of course...
Agree. Gifts is no big deal. So Labour should apologise for banging on about Boris wallpaper. Say they were wrong. It didn't matter then either.
oh it definitely matters! As does the very very apparent hypocrisy of this clown of a PM!
Sincerity? mmm .... But cant deny his sincerity about Sausages😂😂...
Blimey I hadn't realized Andrew Marr was such a raging lefty
"Keith Starmer is a better story teller"? The trouble is that Public know that you tell stories to children. The Public are grown-up and see through the BS he's pushing
Not "sausages", then?
only thing i got from the entire speech he gave was to return the sausages, can't remember anything else.
The public are distracted because of what labour have done to themselves so far, taking money to pay for heating from pensioners was a massive own goal as was not relaxing the two child benefits cap and to top it all off they were all caught getting free stuff, well paid people taking free gear. But the big question that is never asked is why did they take all the free perks ?? What’s in it for the the donors what are they getting in return. WHY ??
They are rebuilding their wardrobes!!!!
We are all going to get old one day, and the way Labour has treated OAP'S who are just under the threshold amount, and giving BILLION"S abroad does not make any sense, we have one of the lowest state pension's in the EU, (15 Lowest)..So that's why its so important to help our frail OAP's this winter.🥶
What about the fat ones?
Starmer out. Nothing more than a red tory. Kickbacks/Austerity/pensioners ... Time is up. Time to be "Held accountable"
Never forget what Tony Blair did to our country
They even believe their own hype...dangerous.
Starmers speech ammounted to a load of bangers and mash😂😂😂😂
It started with an 'S'.
It's like a Scooby Doo episode from Marr

Did any UK bookmakers take a bet on Starmer saying "sausages" in his speech today?...
If they did... then maybe Starmer is fulfilling a command from a donor... and said it deliberately?
If Starmer Did misread the autocue... maybe the donor can get a refund on Starmers glasses?
If King Charles doesn't dissolve this govt... people could die laughing by Christmas...
