Wow man, I've been fooled for years. I thought making music was an art and cumbersome, starting with the message you want to get out, paint that musical picture in your head with a feeling, kind of rhythm and style, noodle around on your piano/guitar, getting musical phrases out and lyrics that mimic your message to your audience. But no, just start with a kick drum to your liking. Your tips could very well be put into an algorithm that randomly produces music. Thanks bro, saves me a lot of time from now.
You have beautifully verbalized every single thought I have in my head when creating. Even for non-beginners, seeing this process can help anybody at any stage just to take in your energy and creativity. Cheers, Ethan! Thank you!
Just openend Garageband for the first time today. Made some tunes but wow this was incredibly helpful to get the whole picture! Fabulously explained and easy to watch. Thank you!!!
Your videos are so great man, seriously the best producer videos on UA-cam. You break things down so easy and love your 5 step formula. This song is so sick - would love to see you put it out there! Thanks man!
I was looking for a simple video like this. I've had a music computer for 2 years and bought over 10k in plugins and have taken so many courses but have yet to put a song together. Crazy I know. Appreciate your fun approach to composing.
My mind is blown! I thought to get realistic sounding electric guitars I'd have to find the right guitar amp simulator - I never knew you could just use the effects already in Ableton. Thanks, man!
Also, can't get over how you're just casually throwing out awesome timesaving gems like click anywhere in the MIDI piano roll and hit CTRL+A to select all - who knew?!
Im jealous!!! I hate I stop learning guitar!!! I wish I kept learning I would be tracking live guitar and bass by now!!!!either my understanding for AL is getting better or you making it look super easy!!!🤔 dope vibe btw 🔥🔥🔥
Ngl for some reason I actually got chills when you added your vocals in😂 it was way better than i expected! Most of these tutorials are good at making instrumentals but not as good at crafting choruses
this was sooo helpful! i’d love if you did a video like this for each genre (especially rnb, hip-hop, alt/indie, rap, rock) so i could take elements i like from different genres and put them together into my own thing 😊
If I get 1 percentage better everytime is because of you the way you teach it's always simple and well explained And I loved the song it's sound more amazing than other big artists
You save my life, man. Thanks a lot. i'm your subscriber now. i mean i don't know what to do with this bundling DAW, Ableton Live 10 Lite, DAW that i got from purchasing an audio interface called Focusrite 2i2 a few years ago. You are my savior, man. Thank you so much.
well, the most fascinating thing about this tutorial is that you can hear things in a contecst of final result! When you started filling the drums and guitars and then synths over them I thought, "what a generic unspicy stuff"... However at the end, when the vocals came in, every instrument took their own place in a contecst, so it sounded quite a bit funky and mayby Maroon5-ish, which I can't even imagine over this! And I really like the final result This is what producer really shoud do - watch for the contecst of the instruments😎 Cheers, mate!
*I have always wondered why Taylor Swift & Sabrina Carpenter are always leading., thanks to you I get it now. Pop music is uplifting, I never really paid much attention into it. I am an Amapiano music producer, I will definitely try it out.*
This was EVERYTHINGGGGGGG I'm in school for composition, and this helped soooo much with the electronic side of stuff! Love how detailed you are! Really appreciate!
@ you probably might not know a number of talents that you’ve inspired and grooming to do music, I’m from Ghana 🇬🇭 in West Africa, I chanced on your Video on UA-cam out of the blues then few months after, i made Ableton live standard purchase,m-audio air 192/14, a MacBook Pro M1, a midi piano so I can follow along your video and make a living, There might more people like me wanting to do same kindly help us achieve this dream and we’ll never forget the role you played in our lives even though we never met 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🤝🏽🤝🏽🤝🏽🤝🏽
Hey Ehtan love your video man i just wanna ask you that can you make a video on how to make music in the style of benson boone or post Malone pop country by the way love from India🇮🇳❤
Just got to the lyrics, so simple and so corny, but SO PERFECT! It's a tough skill to have have the balance, but that is what makes it special. Well done!
Your videos are truly some of the most comprehensive out there. Would love if you could make a tutorial for dark techno or dubstep. Really curious to see how you would approach those sub genres.
for real!!! the explains stuff as if i’m the dumbest person in the world which is great! i’ve seen many tutorials and most of them act as if i already know what they know
i love your videos ethan and the originality, with each video i feel that i learn more and i can't believe that in each video there is a new song jajaja incredible, thanks for sharing more of your art...pd: you could make a video but with a sm7b, because i have tried to integrate it in my songs but i haven't been able to. :))))
Great work! But I need to say something about pop music: Producing pop music is deceptively difficult because it demands a perfect balance between artistry and accessibility. Unlike other genres, where experimentation or niche appeal can thrive, pop requires creating something universally relatable and instantly catchy without sounding shallow or overproduced. Every element-melody, lyrics, production, and even silence-has to serve the song’s emotional impact while maintaining a commercial edge. The challenge lies in its simplicity: making something sound effortless, yet unforgettable, takes an incredible amount of skill, precision, and often, collaboration. It’s not just music-it’s a science and an art designed to resonate with millions.
This is great! But with what I struggle the most is with taking some half developed idea like the one you made in the video and transforming it to something like the finished song you played at the end. Can you make a video showing that process?
really appreciate your videos which have helped me a lot. One thing I would like to know is? When I create a verse part ,than a chorus part. How can I transition between the two without it sounding like change in section
i think it shold sound like a change in section, because it is! just keep some of the same elements playing but change up the parts a bit. same guitar, slightly different strumming pattern etc
ive noticed it can mess with transients for sure, but thats why i used 2 snare samples, and only put reverb on one of them. one stays dry and keeps that transient nice and CRISP!
Learning so much from your channel, thank you! Really cool that you're responding to a lot of the comments too, thanks for taking the time. I was just wondering when you recorded the guitar parts, did you use a VST amp or is it hooked up to a real amp head thats then connected to your interface?
What’s crazy you can dump the lyrics in an Ai vocal generator for a female vocal like Sabrina Carpenter and you can layer it with yours like a Duet😁💪🏽🎶🗣️
Which version of ableton are you using? I’m one 11 standard so I’m not sure if you’re using some features I don’t have. Btw this song is absolutely bangin you should put it up on Spotify
thank you! im using the same as you. i do have a fair amount of 3rd party plugins im using, but i tried to stick to mostly ableton so you could follow along
I have 11 but it’s the Intro version 😅 I definitely need to add some plugins, but have no idea where to start. I’ll have to watch some more videos lol.
Don’t think I ever found a channel this helpful. Keep up the good vibes man, it’s addictive!

Blown away by how awesome the final product sounded! Thanks so much for making these videos; we're all so grateful!

We've almost found the same inspiration. I love it.
Mine was " Maybe i can leave the world!"
What if you make a Free Guitar Sample Pack for your Followers 🤔?, I LOVED THIS ONE 😭
You're a wonderful teacher and do a great job of breaking things down to first principles. Thanks for sharing!

New sub here! Love how simple you made this process, and you explained everything you were doing and why. Love it!
Seven minutes in Heaven. Truly 🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The vocal brought tied the song together
i find the right vocal often does that. it's the last piece of the puzzle, and a big one at that
You save my life, man.

The completed project sounded Nice!!! Awesome work, and thank you for the lesson!
Recreating your favorite songs is by far the best way to learn how to produce. Do it as much as possible
The melody stucks in my head!
Love your page! You’ve really helped me develop my skills over the years!

Liked/Subbed. Sat through the vid- It's very GOOD! Vibey.. That's the thing with pop, a lot of cool vocal layers to rrreally thicken it up.

Another bop 👏🏻

thats why Toxic by Britney Spears is the perfect song IMO. soooo simple
This is great! But with what I struggle the most is with taking some half developed idea like the one you made in the video and transforming it to something like the finished song you played at the end. Can you make a video showing that process?
i have a video called "what the pros do that you don't" the last 25% or something like that. i believe i cover that in the video!
live this ethan! maybe i'll do some pop stuff now
That was actually a bop 🤘🏾🤪
Came out great man
Big thumbs up, the final song was really cool ❤ ... I am all in 😅
18:00 she's got Bettie Davis eyes...
No way, you heard it too!
This is such a good video
Love your work. Reaper is another great DAW. Free to try also. Super customizable
Instant sub…..I’d love to see more pop cookups. Nice work bro
The song actually sounds fire
You are a great teacher! Please do afro house next (Francis Mercier/Rivo/Alex Wann style)😍

Whaaaat the heck mind blown bro🤯
I like your music brother keep going this video was awesome like every time.
This is amazing content ❤
Great video, learned so much. Thank you ;)
damn, not using the drum rack and making the patterns like that is wild imo lol
I fell into this channel
Pop is like House , Drum and Bass! You better fuckin work!
That Sus Chord on the synth is sick!
thank you, i agree!!
Use the return channels for reverb on drum because it will mess with the impact of the sound just putting it in the chain.
ive noticed it can mess with transients for sure, but thats why i used 2 snare samples, and only put reverb on one of them. one stays dry and keeps that transient nice and CRISP!
Ooo I love it ❤
C'est vraiment bon ta musique 🎉❤
Love this ❤❤❤
This guy knows hook math lmao shoutout that chorus
Yooo how long have you been playing guitar? The synergy is amazing!!!
Thank you. 🙏🏽
You are amazing🔥🔥🔥🔥
wild bro i really like it
Your videos are excellent!
Release!!! 🔥
❤ your awesome bro
What guitars did you used on this video? This is great!
Which Guitar is that? It looks beautiful. Also what about that Bass?
Learning so much from your channel, thank you! Really cool that you're responding to a lot of the comments too, thanks for taking the time. I was just wondering when you recorded the guitar parts, did you use a VST amp or is it hooked up to a real amp head thats then connected to your interface?
