@@brandonnguyen2890 He was one of the original funders but was never involved in its operations or research. He disassociated himself from openAI in 2018. He hadn’t been involved in 6 years and has had absolutely nothing to do with their advancements in generative AI since then. Now he’s started his own closed AI company to compete with them and he’s trying desperately to catch up.

He isn’t asking them to be non profit. He is asking them to break the contract if OpenAI is truly a non profit. If they are not, OpenAI should not be labled as non profit and still take money from large corporate investors privately.
No, because the company originally was founded on money that was donated as a nonprofit.. Even I Donated some money. The Board of directors basically said we're taking all the donated money and research and selling it To microsoft. Thanks guys.. Yeah, I know selling money doesn't make much sense. The way I see it Elon obviously doesn't want Google or Microsoft to be the gate keeper of AI which is not a bad idea.
But if we look closes Microsoft and Google are not near gate keepers, the AI space is getting more decentralized look at Mistral, stability AI, Anthropic and others.
So I don't see how Elon is fight for decentralization with this law suit.
If only a few control AI, eventually AI will control the few and destroy all.

Then adding in how expensive it is to train these models they need a lot of money. That $50 million Elon gave them doesnt really last very long. Sam Altman said it was around $100 million just to train GPT4.
