It's interesting how (imo) the SNES version of Sparkster is actually more visually reminiscent of the Genesis game Rocket Knight Adventures than the Genesis Sparkster. The snes music is more orchestral like the original genesis game too than the genesis version (for those who don't know, these games are the sequel to rocket knight adventures on Genesis). The genesis music has a more upbeat rock/punk feel to it that I really dig, though. They're both really great.
@@mcdelloboy I'm not sure if it was a bias, but I know it defenitly wasn't because they were trying to be different; in both cases the sequels on Genesis look noticebly worse than the first entries.
I don't really know if this is a fair comparison, they are literally different games. From a technical standpoint, though, the SNES is absolutely crushing it here. Way more colour, far more detail in the backgrounds, bigger sprites, better effects, transparencies and as good or better animation. But because they're different games, that doesn't really matter if you like the way one plays more than the other, so this is a weird comparison. Both are good games and they're both exclusive to their systems.
The Genesis version was also rushed in production, they even added a imvincible armor which tells me that the developers added that cause they knew how broken it was. The SNES version feels more complete in my humble opinion.
The correct answer is that both games are good, and that we are blessed to have ever had *the same company* willing to make two separate but closely related games for different platforms. I'm imagining a PC Engine (CD maybe?) Sparkster game now...
I think both games had advantages and disadvantages. The Snes game has the better graphics and sound effects. More levels than the Genesis version. The controls are similar to the original Rocket Knight Adventures. Cooler special effects. The game is fun, but I felt there wasn't enough enemy and obstacle variety compared to the genesis games. The Genesis game had fewer levels, but they were much longer than the snes version levels to make up for it. Different control style of how the rocket pack and sword worked if it's more your style. More enemy, obstacle and boss variety than the snes game. The genesis version was tougher in level and boss design. There were special swords hidden in each level, including the intro, where you become Gold Sparkster if you find and collect them all. The slot machine idea when collecting items was okay unless you got a bomb. Still, both good games, though I had slightly more fun playing the Genesis game.
Dj.D, the SNES version each stage has two sections, one mini boss, and one main boss, on Sega Genesis version each stage has three sections, two mini bosses, one main/final boss

The SNES version has a better graphic quality and the Rocket Knight is more cute, but except for the first stage you put, the rest of the game in Genesis version is quite more difficult than the SNES. The musics in Genesis and SNES are too different, in Genesis it is too much "Sonic-esque", but very nice and more dramatical than the ones in SNES, but the SNES are more pleasant to hear, despite the same character, both are very good and distinct games.
The Snes version has one problem, you can't play all the levels unless you go into the options and select the hardest difficulty. I own the Genesis version complete in box plus that version is getting harder to purchase complete on box. Otherwise both versions are amazing.
I wouldn't know which one to choose... I love these two machines with all my heart, gamer love? nostalgia? since nothing is the same as playing your consoles for a whole weekend with your friends.
Two different games. Both are very good looking platformers, like expected from a Konami title, but without to reach each consoles limits. The SNES version seems to be a little more polished.
To me the controls on the SNES aren't as smooth as the Genesis...eventho it plays more like the first Rocket Knight Adventures, that game controlled more smoothly in my opinion.
Its a shame Konami used only an 8Mb cartridge for the Sega version, and used double that, 16Mb for the SNES game. Hence the prettier graphics on SNES. Luckly the Sega game turned out very good, about as good as the SNES game IMHO. It wasnt the only time Konami used smaller ROM on the Genesis version of games, they just prefered the SNES, but even so, they made some amazing Genesis games.
Konami did the same thing with their ports of Sunset Riders. The SNES version has all characters, stages and bosses from the arcade with a little censorship. The Genesis version kept a few things uncensored, but there's only half as many playable characters, half the bosses have been cut, and half the stages were cut and extended to give the game more bulk. By that point, Konami pretty much didn't care about Sega anymore.

It's a noticeable difference across both libraries but the stretched screen you have here masks that important Snes disadvantage, which makes you feel like you can barely see anything ahead or behind you. The Mega Drive game is apparently better and also is the only one which runs in proper 4:3 ratio, something that the SNES can't even do! Also IMO the MD game has much better music, the dynamic and clarity of the Mega Drive is something SNES can only dream of.
That's a hardware limitation, not a design problem. The SNES has better hardware in every regard except for the speed of the CPU which is why Genesis is toted as faster. So they are both good games but the SNES one is more generic.

Genesis wins on speed and also soundtrack of these two games (rocket knight adventures & sparkster) suited the megadrive perfectly. Also the level design on genesis was way better. Colours may be better on snes but game just doesnt seem as right as the megadrive versions. Genesis had the awnsome start with the battle bots and look at the top of the screen: snes version looks like an unfinished demo with al those numbers while the genesis version looks like a finished product.
Fact: SNES fanboys had to wait almost 3 years after the release of the Genesis, just to be able to claim an occasional moderate color pallete change is "better". I love the SNES, but really.
Nintendo fans say the Nes is better than the Master system despite the colour differences. They just find another reason to argue for what they owned. You'll miss out if you think like that...
Fact: the SNES console specifications cause autism and random screaming about how it has more colours and is the best system in history because the Nintendo biased game magasines said so.
LOL, yep, that is Ninty fanboy logic and history has called all 10 million mostly aged 27-35 American white males out on their inconsistencies. Consider, the N64 was basically the MD (single fast CPU) of that generation, while the Saturn was based on SNES design (multiple graphics processors).
The Megadrive/Genesis version is a much more dynamic game, and the graphics is not worse in respect to snes one, look at the fantatic parallax effects in the background clouds. Moreover the snes playability is penalized by lack of checkpoints forcing the player to restart the level from the beginning when losing a life, except when he reaches the boss. And the MD musics, still not at the level of Rocket Knight Adventures "epicity" are still wonderful in FM also when compared to digitized Snes ones. Both games deserve to be tried and finished.

It's irrelevant and false logic, but you'd admit that here because it's a Nintendo console in the wrong
+Troy Wright ffs... Me and Bukmop Womm talked about resolution because it IS the problem, that SNES limited and flawed resolution CAUSES graphics to be stretched since SNES can only output a 8:7 resolution (256x224 pixels) which don't match the expected 4:3 ratio and therefore all the graphic assets are bigger but in a fake way, stretched with wrong aspect ratio and less sharp. And I don't even know what you talk about with that Mega-CD and n64 sound comparison...

What are you trying to argue? Many Nintendo exclusives have slow down, black screen and all the problems associated with the much slower SNES console. Just look at Secret of Mana boss fights and Super let's walk through doors Metroid. I love these games but they do play like slop.
Not bigger sprites. Lower resolution.
@@aerogun18 Snes can handle bigger sprites as well, quite easily. I honestly think those giant robot fights against a black screen on the genny version uses background tiles
Sega does what Nintendon't!
both very good it's difficult to say who is the winner
The snes level design really really blows. Usually Konami makes comparable efforts. It’s such a bummer how much they dropped the ball on that game
Obrigado Marcos! Realmente estes games tem! Muito show!
The Genesis version is more like a sequel to the original Rocket Knight Adventures.
The SNES game is its own thing
Ive never thought the Megadrive game looked as good as a game from 1994 should.
Difficult to tell as the scenes are interchanging.
Funny thing that its two games are named as the same the Genesis version its a sequel of the original and Snes its a prequel
It started on Genesis I prefer sega
The Genesis Rocket Knight has significantly better controls.
As usual
@@StaticTV80 game look like shit compared to first rka on genesis and sparkster on snes
MD WINS
While I do prefer the SNES version, neither are as good as the original Rocket Knight Adventures. Still both worth trying though.
Snes best graphics and cool efects, best gameplay and extras in sega genesis...two diferents greats games
lago: facil, jefe-normal.
fabrica: normal, jefe- facil a normal.
montañas: normal, jefe-normal a dificil.
piramides: algo dificil, jefe-normal a dificil.
villa musical: normal-dificil, jefe-normal.
base espacial: dificil, jefe dificil a jodido.
misil: demasiado facil, jefe-normal.
these reflections...damn snes pushed to the fuckin lmiit
It kinda stinks that both consoles have different versions of a lot of games. Just make them identical especially when you can.
The Mega Drive version is faster but the version of Super Nintendo is richer in details. This scenario does not allow deciding a winner.
Both are great, but the snes version is better. More detail, better colors, better audio, and gameplay that is faithful to original genesis game.
The SNES looks like an arcade game and MD looks like it was made for sega master system
Nah it looks much better if you actually play it.
the snes version is my childhood, aaaaand I have not played the other version
Fact: SNES fanboys had to wait almost 3 years after the release of the Genesis, just to be able to claim an occasional moderate color pallete change is "better". I love the SNES, but really.
Nintendo fans say the Nes is better than the Master system despite the colour differences. They just find another reason to argue for what they owned.
You'll miss out if you think like that...
andyukmonkey I own both and love both. I had a Genesis first but in the end it isn't what system is better, it's whether you had fun playing it...
I like how you don't mention the huge sound upgrade.
I had more fun with the Genesis game, although it's really difficult
The Megadrive/Genesis version is a much more dynamic game, and the graphics is not worse in respect to snes one, look at the fantatic parallax effects in the background clouds. Moreover the snes playability is penalized by lack of checkpoints forcing the player to restart the level from the beginning when losing a life, except when he reaches the boss. And the MD musics, still not at the level of Rocket Knight Adventures "epicity" are still wonderful in FM also when compared to digitized Snes ones. Both games deserve to be tried and finished.
Both games are very close. But, I pick Genesis version for the controller more comfortable in hands. Also, sounds may be better.
Graphics: SNES
Presentation: Genesis
Sound: Genesis
Gameplay: Genesis

Sparkster on Genesis/Mega-drive and SNES are actually different games.
Its epic on the Snes.
Just look at the mirror effect when he passes the lake
I prefer the SNES Sparkster the Genesis version was rushed in production.
I prefer the Megadrive version, but Snes one has better graphics.
For a moment i thought the snes won, the intro was kind of Epic the the Sega version, wow! Best intro i ever seen in a video game, or one of the bests.
genesis version is supirior
Pra mim o melhor msm é o Rocket Knight Adventures do mega drive
Snes for me, bigger sprites and better music quality.
once again , bigger sprites because lower resolution .
+Bukmop Womm
Indeed. Sprites aren't bigger, just deformed due to SNES lower resolution. But this tends to fool the unobservant eyes.
Parallax Craze look at this! The original comment has nothing to do with resolution! He said bigger sprites, and you try to turn it into some kind of war, he never said better resolution not possible on the genesis.
That's like saying lol you're fooled by the mega cd midi capabilities compared to the n64 because it uses a lot of red book audio format rather than dedicated soundchip to fool people. It's irrelevant and false logic, but you'd admit that here because it's a Nintendo console in the wrong
+Troy Wright
ffs...
And I don't even know what you talk about with that Mega-CD and n64 sound comparison...
count the pixels sprites are just bigger on snes
Sega as usual
Graphics goes to SNES but over all Genesis Version is much better!
Definitely not the same game, in spite of what the name might imply...
If you don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on the Snes version just buy the Super Famicom version.
Thought it was rocket Knight for sega
Sega Wins!
Just a suggestion, but you really should learn how to play a game before recording video.
Genesis wins because SNES controls aren't very good and there's not a lot of new weapons
Thel Vandamee definitely agree I don't know why people say the snes version is so hard compared to what the Genesis version throws at you. I played both and the Genesis version on hard is way scarier especially that depending on your difficulty setting the levels have differences and more areas.
Which is dumb because the SNES could've had good controls.
The snes one played like dog shit, was really easy to get yourself killed by the wolves, and the schmup jetpack stage was frustratingly hard.
Should we talk about the stage slowdowns too?
