  • Rewinding of the Honda CRF250L stator coils. This is only a partial rewinding because I only rewind the coils in 2 poles instead of all the coils of the stator. I tried my best to explain the stator delta winding configuration of the motorcycle stator. Should be the same or similar to many other motorcycle models.

    I have rewound 3 stators for my Suzuki gs1100es. The first two only lasted 3 to 4 thousands miles. I used JB Weld epoxy instead of motor shellac and attempted to get the windings as tight as possible. The point of failure these two stator seemed to be the three layers of windings chafing against one another despite being quite solidly JB Welded. My third stator has lasted 31 thousands miles! This stator was rewound the same way except I used caption tape around the iron core and each layer of all the polls. I hope your repair stands the test of time, but if you do have any issues consider trying the caption tape trick. Keep up the great work!

      Hi. Thanks for the comments and suggestion. The stator on my bike has a plastic covering the iron core so the first layer of windings are protected. If I will have to rewind this or another stator, I'll keep the insulation in between layers in mind. I have plenty of mylar tape used with transformers I can use for that purpose.

      I just finished up a rewind and used 2k clear applied with a brush then placed in vacuum chamber, multiple times. The Iso cured laquer will cure hard as a rock and should resist the heat very well. Hopefully it lasts

    I Have learned a trick when winding the poles with magnet wire. I use a round heavy stuff plastic straw that makes rewinding super easy. At least it worked for me Sir. Also, I have added a jelled hand mold to make it comfortable for my hand too. Nice video fella with good information Sir.

      Thanks. I can imagine how you do it and I will definitely try it next time if I have to rewind with magnet wire again. I did the rewind job in the video in a rush at night since I have to use the bike the next day. It could have been better, but I worked fine, nonetheless.

      I am glad for you Sir. Necessity is the mother of all invention. Am glad it worked for you fella. Just touching base with my experience that the neater the wire laydown the longer the performance. Most of the time , it is timeless. Good day Phil too. vf@@DIYPhil

      Salamat po at nakakatuwa na merong nakinabang kahit papaano sa video ko. Ako first time ko nag rewind ng stator. Kapag ipapagawa ko sa mekaniko gusto palit at bili ng bago, laking gastos.

    Does it matter if you wind all the coils in the same direction?

      Hi. I just follow the original winding format. In this case all coils are wound counterclockwise. They are in fact wound in the same direction and it worked perfectly.

      I removed my old burnt stator coil . It's single phase and noticed that one coil was wound clockwise and the other one next to it was wound anti clockwise and then again clockwise and then anti clockwise and so on... Here if I wind all in same direction it won't work right? I have to follow the original scheme of winding to make it work... Please reply... Thanks for posting this video

    Happy to see this. You mentioned a coil rewinding video in your previous video, but I couldnt find it. I guess this is the one you're referring to, right?

    Did you measure the resistance before doing this operation? I have a bike which is really hard to start and no spark when using the starter. But the resistance of the stator is in spec...

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  9 місяців тому

      Yes I did measure the resistance as you can see in part 1 of the video, link below. In my case, the resistances are within spec, however the voltage output of the stator is very low. ua-cam.com/video/3aK8z5vHeTI/v-deo.html

      The coil does not affect your spark if your coil is dc. But, if ur coil is AC, alternator is important for the spark. In dc stator, the pick up coil is the one who made a spark.
