  • Decided it was time to shackle flip the K10 to get a little extra clearance. I had originally planned to use the 56" springs but ran into some issues and decided to use the 52" springs for now.

    Chicks don't get it... Lol. Been watching the build. I'm converting a 82 c20 diesel into a 84 k20 (so no smog in CA). just spent a few days with angle grinder and multiple sawzall blades and BFG removing the rivets to get my c20 front frame clean (under front grill support body mounts, sway bar brackets, and c20 crossmember and coil spring assembly. Got a similar talking to about the noise. Classic.

    For the hitch, I cut some 1/4 plate strips to go between the frame and hitch. It drops the hitch down a 1/4 but it allows it to sit on the shackle bracket with no issue. I did have to get a couple longer bolts but some I was able to reuse.

    looking good man. Looking forward to seeing how the truck is with the new springs and whatever rear bumper you fab/decide to run. If you want to swap to the 56s, you'll have to relocate both the front and rear spring hangers(if i am remembering correctly from the research i was doing when i was prepping to start my build)

      Thanks! Actually on 56" you just have to run the shackle flip backwards and it comes out good, no need to move the front.

    Nice truck.... Been keeping up on most of your videos on your page and TONS of info and great at keeping your work professional and clean....... I'm actually doing a 6.0 swap in my 1980 k10 after deployment!!!! But I have some questions on the wiring portion of this swap...... Can you help me out on some info on this? I see people cutting and gutting the harness... I want to keep it stock with A/C with exception of low oil delete, rear o2 sensor delete...... Is this swap more of a plug and play swap? What do I have to do with the wiring?

      Both my 79 K20 and 84 K10 have 52" springs. I got my 56" springs from a Suburban at the wrecking yard, but not all Suburbans have 56" springs.

      What type of springs do you have? A shackle flip on compression springs do great under pressure. You can haul a 30+ ft 5th wheel an then some plus a full load of concrete if you wish, an all should be fine.

    • @Dicks4x4Garage
      @Dicks4x4Garage  5 років тому

      Shackle flips are made to be used with stock springs. The amount of lift depends on the shackle flip itself. The two I know of are 2 or 2.5 and 4".

      I have read build threads where people have used them, but I haven't really gave them much thought. If my ride doesn't improve with the front springs and 56" when I get around to putting them on, I may consider it.

      63's make a huge difference in ride and flex. I had 1/2 ton springs out of a 2000 Silverado in my 84 and loved them.

    Also i have watched your videos on the wiring and the fan/battery tray and I have to be honest, your location and neatness is rather nice..... I also liked the way you used the relays and distribution piece against the firewall and it seems to be a nice place for it....... Can you clarify how and where you did the wiring for them and how much of the old wiring for the stock fuse box for the cab did you use/eliminate? I'm iffy with wiring and schematics as I only know what I was trained on which isn't much........ I rather trust your work so far on it and am interested in more info..... I know this may be a pain but LT1swap.com isn't as simple as it could and having a hard time understand some of the info.......... My whole build is mainly for a show and a Sunday driver per say as it is my first real build/restoration being only 24....... Building and engine and trans is a piece of cake but wiring isn't a specialty but willing to learn more for future builds........ Thanks in advance

      +MrWhitels1 thanks! I printed out all of the diagrams on lt1swap.com just a little unclear to me....... Especially with unpinning the wiring harness....... What is the need for that? Aside from getting rid of the vas, low oil and so fourth...... But after I watched your wiring videos I have a great deal of better inderstanding on what I'm suppose to do..... I'd rather do it once rather than a few times bc harnesses are oober expensive...... I like my emitissions just so I can keep it dependable and reliable as the old 350 is tired iron.......
