Dear Nikol, I was so touched and inspired, when I watched this video and heard your journey. I’m so proud of you that you took the time to feel and think and trusted yourself to just be you, with or with out makeup. Those can be very difficult internal rules to bend for ourselves. I will be going sometime soon for a 5th surgery to do with breast cancer, and 3/5 of those had to do with reconstruction. I think my own body image has gotten so low! That is why I was so inspired today. Thank you!!

Welcome back! And, due to my infertility treatment history I've experienced the same type of issues. LOTS of fibroids removed and massive, fast growth of some moles- they had to come off. The infertility treatments can be both a blessing (for some) and a curse.

Am just watching this and am so glad this is well behind you! I have to say, the first thing I’ve always done before going out in the morning was put on makeup. Through the pandemic it has been a new awakening for me, since I was wearing a mask out all the time. A little eye makeup did the trick through mask wearing the last year and a half, and off I’d go!

Nikol, good for you! You look great without makeup. I often do not wear makeup on the weekends and even when I get home from work, will take it off and go out to the store. It is very freeing. I'm happy that your surgery turned out well and that the growth was benign. Thank you for another great video!

So glad it went well and thanks for sharing your experience! Isn't it amazing when a doctor listens to you? After years of telling doctors that something's wrong and watching none of them become concerned I finally had a doctor who listened to me. After many tests we discovered that yes, something's wrong and she has referred me to a specialist hospital. I'm still waiting for that appointment but I'm so hopeful that maybe, just maybe, I'll start to feel better soon.

Hi Nikol! Yes we do learn some beautiful practical things as we go through rough times! I also learned that lesson about makeup. I use to fear people would look at me and think “ she looks ugly or sick with no makeup”. That is so not true! I think it’s only us who feel that way. I’m not saying I didn’t look different to everyone...it was just....ok. And I was ok with it! I do find I take better care of my skin and hair and nails when I don’t do the full makeup thing. Glad your surgery went well!

Awww I am so happy for you. As I had said in other messages I left for you I had hooded eyelid surgery and he messed up the left one. Been to so many occulur plastic surgeons and two women and they won't touch it. The muscle let go in my eyelid so it does't open all the way or close so I have chronic dry eye. So good for you!!!

So glad your NF surgery went well. You have healed very nicely. I don’t blame you for wanting to get it removed. I always want any kind of growth that I wasn’t born with taken off. I have lots of moles and skin tags and I always take them off. I also let my color grow off my hair. My hair is a beautiful silver white in front and a little lighter than yours in the back. I started wearing color on my hair on my 40th birthday and started going more and more blonde about 4 years ago. Finally at 60 I decided to let it grow off completely. My hair never looked awful thank goodness. I am glad that I decided to go natural. It is so freeing to know I’m not tied down to a beauty salon once every 5 weeks now! I’m really enjoying your video’s. I wish you the best as you finish healing. You look great!

So glad that you learned something about yourself and don't feel like you HAVE to wear makeup but want to. Glad that it wasn't painful, I would have thought that it would be sore when it bruised up the next day for atleast that day. Plus thankful for that doctor because surely it would have eventually affected your peripheral vision with the way is growing.

Ok, this is long after the actual op you had, but it is so 'comforting' to hear you say that wearing make-up is not everything. I used to not set foot out my door unless hair done and face made up. Nowadays, I am spending at least one day over the weekend giving my skin a breather. And I don't feel intimidated by the beautifully made up ladies at the store. I am me. Still. With or without make-up. Thank you. And I am glad you were well right after the op.
Hi Nikol, Glad to see you got that bump out! Good for you and you should feel good about it. I had one in the same area in my right eye years ago and had it removed, I was told it was a cyst. It has not come back. I was15 and now 62. How time has passed since and it made me remember that's what I went through back then. Glad you did something about it. Mine was the size of a pea. Take care and be healthy. 💓

I am happy to hear that the growth was benign . I always worked in the O.R. And I almost never wore makeup ; to me it's always been normal .Since retiring I still don't .

I just discovered your videos so just now heard your surgery story. I think you were very brave to do this especially being in the business you're in, the fear of scars or healing problems being prevalent. Its great to see Dr. Stokes' work, you look like nothing was done. The word ''plastic surgery'' carries the connotation of mere beautification whereas yours was a necessity. Except for the fact that it needed to be done by a plastic surgeon, there was absolutely nothing cosmetic about it. I had my nose done when I was 27, along with necessary sinus surgery I decided to do something to my nose which I'd always hated. I was told to expect two black eyes with the whites being blood red. Unknown to my doctor I'd been taking large amounts of Vitamin C, along with Vitamin E for healing and all my usual vitamins. The C however was in mega doses. I took it before surgery (stopping when I had to before surgery) and as soon as I got the OK, after surgery. Neither of my eyes swelled or went black despite the fact that they had to break my nose. I had two tiny bruises, one on each eye. My doctor didn't believe the C was the reason but I definitely do. Anyway, back to you. Thanks for sharing with us and glad it turned out benign. Oh, on a final note, love your hair. In our family none of the women grey until they're very old so I got tired of waiting. I can't quite copy the look you have so my daughter and I got together and are in the process of turning my hair pure silver. Take care of yourself!

You look beautiful! She really did a fantastic job. Now you don’t have to worry about it anymore. I only wear makeup when I go somewhere special. I choose to go without all other times. It makes wearing makeup that much more fun for me and not such a drag to have to do.
Nichol you are really beautiful. As a portrait artist, I think you would look so much younger and softer if your eyebrows were more narrow and ended at the inner corners of your eyes. Also they would be more flattering not so dark. These are just tips I have learned over the years.so glad your surgery went well.

I stopped wearing makeup maybe 10 years ago and recently I decided to try again with it. I can't stand it. I think it makes my skin look horrible plus I don't really have the time for it. I'm over 50 and I just don't feel like I need it. when I was younger I loved makeup. I don't know if this is self confidence or laziness or just not giving a crap what anybody else thinks. maybe it's all of the above
especially during COVID! I'm like, WHO'S GONNA SEE ME?!?
dindog22 I felt the same way after a long respite. I looked like a clown. It took a while to get into the swing of it. Just added a thing at a time til i was comfortable with that thing (mascara or liner or whatever). But there is certainly something to be said for being okay with your real self. Hope you have come to a place where you're okay.

Nikol I had a cyst on the side of my neck from puberty. I was so self conscious. I had it cut out by a derm in office at age 30. I waited a long time to have it removed because I keloid scar and did not want that on my visible neck. So happy to say it never grew back and the scar is barely noticeable on my very fair skin. Growths anywhere are scary but for women near our faces or on can be emotional. Very happy to see you recovered well and feel so much better having made the huge difficult decision to have it done. Freedom at last!!! ♥️

Hi Nikol, you have a warm and lovely personality....beauty is nice but not 'important', and wonderful IF balanced with deeper things, imho, health, purpose, kindness, connection, spirituality, intelligence...all about balance, bc shallow beauty fades, if there is 'nothing behind the eyes'..( I worked in the industry in Malibu for decades) ... but beauty with depth, soul, kindness...magnifies the beauty, and lasts forever
