Yooper here and I love it when people post informative videos of Michigan. Cool upload 🙏🏼
Im from a town not too far from Alpena, right on Lake Huron. I may be biased, but MI is my favorite place on Earth.
I love the area around Alpena too!
Born and raised here at 57 I never new MI had a sink hole!
That's so awesome. 😊
Same and I am also 57 in July. Flushing, Mi
Lived in Michigan all my 66 years. Never heard of this stunning facts.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for checking out my video Barb!
The thumbnail is of a sinkhole in Alpena.
????
Yup el cajon bay!
Michigan is a beautiful state lived there for 20 years the worst thing about the state is the crappie politics
I like the politics in Michigan. Nessel and Whitmer are doing us a lot of good since the awful years of the Snyder messes.
@@JollyLamaComYoure an idiot
The worst thing about Mich, the arrogant idiot...Whitmer! She was so snotty during covid
@@JollyLamaCom 🤡
Aw, are our politics "crappy" now that our maps aren't gerrymandered in favor of Republicans and our government is *actually* democratically representative of the voting population? Womp womp.
Alpena, to Atlanta, north to Onaway, then to Roger City.. there are some located all through this area.. and they are still forming today...
Thanks ‼️
Sure is. Pigeon river forest too. I live in Alpena. Lots of them around here
I love it so much I have a home on both peninsulas. Guess which one I am at the most?
Since I didn't have to have your comment translated, the LP.
Upper?
I live on the UP and grew up in the lower. You definitely are in the UP the most. Lower Michigan is ok the UP is like a totally different state. Almost 10,000,000 people in Michigan and only around 300,000 in the UP.
Where is this? I have lived here for 63 years and have never heard of such a thing.
There are a few of them in the area between Atlanta. Alpena Onaway, Roger City.. all inside of that square. Have seen a couple myself...
The one in the lake is outside of Alpena, the one they climbed down into is probably in Posen Mi. Although you can't go back to that one anymore, someone fell down it years back and now the owners only let a few people go there. The national guard trains there once in a while and so does the fire department and then the Karst society people do their research too. Atlanta has a big one that has stairs going to the bottom and benches to rest on half way down. I've gone down several of them, even ones on private land, but I'm from the area so I know people who gave me permission back in the day before people worried about liability insurance. One of my friends live right next to a smaller one and there are crevices all over this area that are cool too. Also check out Mystery Valley, I grew up a mile from there, As the crow flies anyway. In fact the lake I grew up on and where my Mom still lives, was a sink hole that became filled with water when the river was diverted when they were lumbering the area.
Is that submersible a Kitchen Aid mixer? LOL
I love knowing this is here. So beautiful.
Amazing, another great story told brilliantly!
Thanks Dan!!
forgive me if i’m wrong but that slime in the sunken pit wasn’t cyanobacteria. cyanobacteria photosynthesizes without chloroplast, instead using an organelle called thylakoid. i believe the proper term for your bacteria was “archaebacteria”
Very interesting never knew Michigan had sinkholes, wonder why this isn't talked about more it could bring tourism to those areas
The diver said the beast was breathing at the bottom of the sinkhole.
Mother earth biology
Seems like only people that live in the northeast lower peninsula and eastern upper peninsula know about them
I'm almost 58 and live in the eastern UP and I've never seen or heard of these. Weird.
So people don't destroy the land.
Sending support, love, and kindness from Lexington, USA.
Is Lexington the same prison?
Thank you @brandysears3546 I love Lexington!!!
A rough location of these sinkholes would be a good fact to state in videos like this...
yeah, rhat. also maybe give an example of a rare species
“It’s noticeably cooler when you squat down” …….. “so stand up Juile!” My dad would yell at me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good point lol
Man that was cool!!
that was incredibly interesting thank you for the knowledge
I’ve lived in Michigan for 56 years and have never heard of this
The one near Alpena is ridiculous. I have been to it and it’s a nightmare. I went with three children that were toddlers we thought it was built up and there was a staircase to go down now at staircase hasn’t been used since at least the 60s
Really interesting
Wonderful state.
Terrible governor.
Wonderful state.
Wonderful governor who is fixing the damn roads.
A diver friend of mine says he's seen crayfish the size of lobsters at the bottom of kettle lakes, as there are no predators.
They just keep shedding and growing.
Hi @realityjunky ! Can you put me in touch with your diver friend? I would love to go see those giant crayfish, that might make a coo video!
Very cool. Thx all for your effort.❤
Great insights from Dr. Susan Fawcett! Very cool video. Where are some of these sink holes located?
Hi JollyLama, They are located near Alpena MI
The location might be called Posen ,I'm not sure
@@lisaparlberg1581correct
Where at in michigan is this????
The process cyanobacteria use to extract energy from chemical soup is known as "chemosynthesis."
Thank you @polyphonicSpr33
Well look at the big brain on @PolyphonicSpr33.
This is amazing
Thank you Carl!
Need to get out n about the state, it's such a beautiful state
Where in Michigan? Looks like somewhere in the U.P. Isle Royal?
Not likely to be Isle Royale. Different kind of rock.
Alpena Michigan
The east side of the state is limestone. All kinds of cool geology. Look up a video "Drain the Great Lakes". The Huron basin is pretty cool.
You're right @michellehamilton4075 it does look like the UP but its actually Alpena !
I think I remember hearing that there may be one on Mackinac island
Wow! ❤❤❤
did i miss it, or did they say where the sinkholes are? did they show an example of a rare plant?
Hi @brucecarter8296 The sinkholes are in Alpena.
Yeah, I had lots of shots of the plants.
@@TheWildWhereYouAre i saw plants. not one was identified. just "ferns"
I’d love to observe the Fungi nearby #MushroomFantasies
I live in Michigan and have my whole life, but I didn't even hear about these sinkholes till just recently and they scare the crap outta me. What if an animal were to fall into one of these holes, would they make it out alive or not??? Aqua Sinkholes are beautiful, but also dangerous, so they scare me big-time.
Where in Mi are the sinkholes?
Alpena
crevasses is that the same a s crev (short e) a (short a) sis?
No locations were given in the video nor any locale :( but i'm asauming they are all in the north.
Hi @Xfacter The sinkhole is by Alpena Mi.
WHERE DID MY COMMENTS GO?
"This purple slime is cyanobacteria."
People who know what the word "cyan" means" +confused Pikachu noises+
😉
Sinkholes are known to form along fault lines.
It the leftover of the great flood
The climate is always changing.
Oh, OK thanks for that stunning revelation.
And it is changing markedly faster during the industrial age due to manmade causes.
Cause co2 levels are at an all time low only way to go is up. Any lower and it would not support life.
Co2 has gone from .003 to .004 percent of atmosphere.
@boxsterman77 Entirely debatable, but go on and regurgitate your empty slogans, hippie.
Saw this awhile back on Fox 2
Cyanobacteria are not purple. It's in the name , cyan, meaning they have to be green and use chlorophyll to convert light into chemical energy.
Also 100 times the salt content of the great lakes is still only about 1/3-1/2 as salty as the ocean. And those dissolved solide are not preserved, they're leached from the subsurface rocks.
Thank you @alexanderx33
I love💗to go do video shoots of land & water places that man never 👀's! When I am not making Killer Guitar Music Creations! Being a Master of Masters~
I'm Hoping to get up there more this year! I am just a few miles away from the UP boarder line! Got some great fishing spots to checkout also for the first time..
On The ~~Menomonee~River~~~~~~That no one knows about~! Can't find anyone that sees that as a fun thing to do~! They are to busy doing nothing & knowing nothing~!!!
But hey its their loss~! Your State Rules~!!
Awful governor!
So, you're a Republican?
temperature change would be a more appropriate word to use than climate change , be a real scientist !
WHEREAS MY COMMENTS???
I haven't deleted any comments. I'm not sure what happened.
You tube does it sometimes if there is a word they don't like.
Why can't there be a discussion without injecting climate change into it, one statement says it's representative of what the climate used to be and in the next we have to protect it from climate change. I'm sure glad these people weren't around 7000 years ago we'd only have 2 seasons, winter and a short bug season.
I thought those were the seasons now in the UP.
@@TheFredmac it is we just have a longer bug season now
i didn't hear anything about climate change but the narrator sure has a lot to say about the land before time
😂
You mean the world has been getting warmer for thousands of years?😂😂🎉🎉
Awake to rightousness and sin not... God is Holy and cannot look upon sin. We need the righteousness of Jesus Christ applied to our account so we can get to God, have a relationship with Him and go to heaven. The only way to get Jesus Christ's righteousness applied to our account is put our trust in his finished work on the cross. He shed his blood to cover our sin.. he took God's wrath.. he took our hell, and in turn he gives you his righteousness. What a loving God! Why would you take a chance on holding onto your own righteousness which is as filthy rags according to the Bible. You see friend, we are all sinners in need of a Saviour! If you trust that Jesus Christ paid it all for you, ask him to forgive you for your sin and save your soul. Romans 10:13 says for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Does ‘climate change’ include the Direct Energy Weapon System (DEWS) caused fires of Maui (Lahaina), Paradise, CA; Ukraine, just to name a few? These massive fires completely changed the landscape of the area around them, to say the least and the discharge of carbon into the atmosphere would be deplorable in the eyes of climate activists, right? DEWS is only one tool of a host of techniques for Terraforming areas across the earth since WW2. We know now exactly what ‘climate change’ is and isn’t; especially the ‘man made’ variety. Psyentists and princes of the earth just won’t leave mother nature and the earth to be at peace. 😔
You’re just making stuff up! 😂
So you're so full of crap dude quit making stuff up I agree with some of the things you say but you are so far out there with your ideas and you are causing more harm than good
See what drugs will do to you, kids?
Just nonsense. Do you not realize the inordinate unnecessary nature of using. Space based laser just to start a wild fire… 🤭😂🤣
Calm down there bud, stop with this fear bait bs.
They could FAR more easily just use the sun and a focal lens.
Not to mention the sun can make black things on the land get hot enough to start fires all in their own, nevermind lightning. ⚡️
That’s not to say it’s not manmade lightning but just stop with this DEW scare bait.
Even if they did have it, it’s very telling that you’re pushing that as the narrative before any of the MANY different ways this could be done without needing space based directed energy weapons.
A small drone with a bunch of firecrackers could do it. 😂

@@TheWildWhereYouAre It’s common sense, nothing to marvel about
Can't something known and common sense still be marvelous? You know... the birth if a baby, a rainbow, a sunset, a dog's loyalty. My list could go on and on.
@@janetborst1895 Yes it can. Rain is wet, ice is cold, the sunlight is warm. MARVELOUS!

"CLIMATE CHANGE" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. It changes every day. Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. DUH!
that's weather you're talking about, but yeah, bringing up climate change had no place in that video. telling us where the sinkholes are located, or pointing out an example of a rare plant would have been more relevant
Why not talk about whats there and not add a bunch of theories and imagined history
Yeah after all the earth is only 6000 years old
@@marksatka6755 I don't agree, I'm not religious
@marksatka6755 it's funny how people are so programmed that they think they know someone by what they aren't. I'm not a sinner or polluter.
Isn't it human to seek answers about things we don't know? A better understanding of why things exist allow us to better protect them.
What caused the climate to warm 7000 years ago? Indigenous people!
