I'm an all electric house, apart from the hot water, so its awful when the power goes out....all the food in the freezer has had to be thrown out a few times, such a waste. Love the leaves you made, what were you going to make with the patty cake papers xx
Hi Gayna, Hope you are all well and the power is back on. When I first moved to the place I live in (in the country) we had to stay with my Mum for a couple of weeks until our house was ready and for the first three days we had a power cut. My Mum was on tank water so her pumps didn’t work so we had no toilets, no showers, no tea 😱 It was also a heatwave. We were having 40 - 45 degree days (Celsius) and we had no fans or air conditions. It was exhausting. My husband worked for a company at the time that used a huge generator that sat on the back of a truck and he was given permission to bring it home to run our fridges, water pump and fans. We bought a generator for Mum and one for our house so that if it ever happened again, we would at least be able to run our fridge & freezer. We get a lot of black outs because it is so dry and dusty. We get what they call pole top fires where the power poles catch on fire. These can cause huge bush fires and if you have a power pole on your property it is your responsibility to keep it maintained. Love your leaf decorations. I would love to have a day where I get to do whatever I want. Maybe over Christmas break. 😊
We were on a double decker during the storm, but we sat downstairs (we may be pensioners, but we still get excited about sitting upstairs on a calm day! 😂) I l9ve that you hot your priorities right and thought about making coffee first when your power went out! We have battery, motion sensor lights on our stairs. They come on as we walk past as soon as it gets dark, we also have some push on battery lights under the kitchen cupboards, above the worktop (mainly because we never asked the builders to put mains lighting in, when they fitted the wall cupboards 😂. But they are very useful! Your candles look beautiful! How long was your power off, for?
I was watching the Holiday with my daughter on Saturday. Definitely Iris's house. So cosy (when the fire's on) and not much to clean. Have to say when I first saw Cameron Diaz in the film I thought how similar the two of you are.
Oh, power outages give me anxiety in the worst way, especially in the winter. We’re on a well so when we have a power outage we don’t have running water, so no tea or coffee and we have to be creative about going to the loo and because there’s no heat in the house (we don’t have a fireplace), I’m always worried the pipes will freeze and then burst. 🫨 And then there’s the fridge and freezer food… But, we just have to deal with it 💪🏼 Take care and hope things are back to normal for you very soon! 🤩
There is something so nice when you have a short power cut and can only light the fire, candles and have a cuppa. Then mess without the guilt. Cosy indeed. 🎄
We've done many home exchanges across the globe over the last 20 years...mostly through that same web site. We've have swapped our stone cottage along a tiny lane for some epic places...the excitement of exploring our latest temporary 'home' is real! We've also stayed friends with many of those we've swapped with.
I'd prefer Iris's cottage. Unfortunately not a real cottage. It was a set built in Shere nr Guildford. I love the film and have watched it numerous times.
It was absolutely wild..windy and wet here too..no electricity either..trees down and dander all over the windows..oh the joys..all fine today though..apart from no water...your hanging branch is looking beautiful... you're dead right Bill..wind can topple buses..and all kinds of other things.. including old ladies..trampolines ..wheelie bins and small dogs ☘️❤️
Definitely the house in Surrey! Then I could pop 'round for tea!! What a lovely cozy evening. I love candle light. I might have to queue up that movie tonight and curl up under a blanket and relax. I hope your power is restored by now.
Re the Holiday movie which I love so much and I might sit down now and knit and watch it I want to know how does she do it! How does Cameron Diaz put all those big winter coats in her suitcases🙈😜
Look at you, making lovely little leaves! You're so talented and imaginative. As for which house I'd choose, anything in England of course. I think I was English in a prior life lol.
Hi Gaynor hope your power is back soon. We had none yesterday until 10.30 ish pm last night. We had camp burner like you for tea. We are one up though, we have a hob kettle lol. Loved your gold leaves. You really should have your own tv show. Kirstie has nothing on you lovely. What a gorgeous family you all are xxx
The Holiday is great. You know that I was at the set when they were making the film. I love Irises house, but it was made of plastic material!!!! Doesn't exist at all. Very disappointing! I was there with my walking group and a friend tried to imitate what Cameron had to do, running from the car back to the house. Only thing is my friend ran into a puddle and slipped. We were laughing our heads of and were requested by the crew to reduce the noise. Oopsie! When I watch the movie I always have to think of this story and I am still laughing remembering her gracious slipping.
Love this video.!!!!! You WERE acting like Michael McIntyre. So funny. Just watched THE HOLIDAY for the umpteenth time. Jude Law......swoon. Iris's house would be my choice. I don't care for contemporary style houses. Those leaves are adorable. I've made those cupcake liner balls but lost interest after making 3. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Looks like Darragh created a lot of chaos over there. I hope your power is back very soon, but I’m glad I’m not the only one who flips on light switches during an outage 😂 The advantage to power outages after our hurricanes is they come in warmer months when we can go outside in the aftermath and set up chairs and tables and neighbors share food that could go bad from the fridges as we clean up our yards. But there’s something to be said about a nap by a cozy fire. Hands down, I’d go for Iris’s house! ❤
This shows how dependent we are on electricity and makes no sense the all things electric being advertised. Sooner or later we rely too much on it. Cars , stoves, water heating sistem and so on. For me the stove and oven are on gas and they’ll stay that way.
Team Surrey cottage here! Just watched The Holiday for the first time (I am always 20 years behind) and apart from the cottage, the relationship between Iris and Arthur was my favorite part 🏚
I think the occasional (short) power cut is rather nice- the tv is off- no one seems to phone and it’s all cosy! But not for too long so the freezer defrosts! Love WW xx
❤❤good you are all ok,,,,🎉🎉🎉 We lose power in winter,,,,and have freezing rain now, Always fill water jugs,,,, We have propane stove,,,,,so not cold if power out long ,,,,,😢 Love the comment fromur dad Elaine 😍🏡
The little leaves look affective on your storm damage Darragh did you a favour to hold time & make you slow down your pace Your hair is very chic & pretty
Bill is so informative and articulate!! he pays attention to detail. So good! stay safe
He is a little sponge with somethings ☺️
The holiday is one of my favourite movies of all time, I pick the cottage in Surry!
Love your gold leaves! ❤
Ooo, I think those little golden leaves hanging among the honesty and autumn branch is the prettiest decoration I have seen this year ! ❤

I don’t know if any has said but you can make those leaves out of aluminium cans too. You just have to spray paint them after.
Really! But our cans are so thick I couldn’t cut them with scissors. I’ve seen people do it with tomato purée tubes but then only one side is gold.

Hi. It's dad. Hope you have power restored. Shame you have sold the campervan. You could have cooked a meal in it. Take care. X
Still no power! I’m cooking on the wood burner. We are fine but could all do with a shower.
Hi, Gayna's dear Dad. Greetings from Wyoming in the U.S. We love your visits to the Ballards.
Bigger more power,??
You have the best ideas, the leaves you made are beautiful.
We were on a double decker during the storm, but we sat downstairs (we may be pensioners, but we still get excited about sitting upstairs on a calm day! 😂)

It’s still off! £ full days of no power but it’s fine, we are managing well. Xxx
Gayna are you missing an earing as well as missing electric? lol x
Love your vlogs 💖
Could you tell me please what you used to make the pretty copper leaves.Would love to have a go at making them.
Many thanks xx
I looked online for craft foil 1 millimetre thick. I’m not sure this was the correct stiff but it worked. Xxx
@ Thanks so much definitely going to give it a go xx
Iris’ house every day!

Blimey there’s a compliment!!!
cozy when the lights are out, hugs

Glad to see you all doing well during your power cut. Hope you’re back on now. Great crafting time though😊
Nope it’s still not on and I haven’t done any crafting the past two days. Never mind! I have knitted a bit xx

Perfect day for crafting Gayna, it was meant to be! The leaves are very effective, really like your branch. Suze. ❣️❣️❣️ xxx
Hope your freezer contents are ok?
The generator is doing a sterling job of keeping it going. We are into day three now with no sign of the power coming back on till late tonight.

I always loved power cuts as long as they were short, always felt cozy❤
We missed you but it was sensible for us all to stay indoors and keep to be safe, it was hairy scary for sure 🌬️ xx
We will do it another time…sooner rather than later.

Definitely Irises house, I love the Aron cardigan that Amanda wears I want that pattern, what a lovely day you ended up having xx
Re the Holiday movie which I love so much and I might sit down now and knit and watch it
I want to know how does she do it! How does Cameron Diaz put all those big winter coats in her suitcases🙈😜
And all the boots? I wonder about silly things like that when I watch a movie.
I was thinking the very same!! And so many hats and scarfs too.
Look at you, making lovely little leaves! You're so talented and imaginative. As for which house I'd choose, anything in England of course. I think I was English in a prior life lol.
I'm curious, what were you trying to do with the bun papers, please. I hope your freezers are OK. Xx
They were supposed to open out like a concertina snowball, but I didn’t have the right glue. 😆

I love the look of Iris' house BUT I wouldn't actual like to live in either! One is WAY too BIG! The other is too closed in.
