Although Crossroads was hands down one of the most influential Delta Blues songs of all time, Robert Johnson wasnt even the best old Delta Blues guys. +Fabiana Strambio Coverdale has a better range than Plant IMHO.
He took Robert Plant's place for a tour with Jimmy Paige in about 1989 to sing Led Zeppelin's songs, so you are spot on. It pissed off Robert Plant at the time, but Robert did not want to tour, Jimmy did so he chose David to sing b/c he was so good.

Love Cozy's drumming in this. On a big sound system this recording sounds amazing. Cozy sounds like a machine gun and the although the song is not particularly bassy when it's cranked up his drumming really stands out esp in your chest. It is a great song - perhaps my all time fav Whitesnake song.
