Brought the hayter last year from goodrowes Chichester for £1:600:00 it was a good mower but didn’t last three months. The handle bars broke and had to be welded then soon after the drive cable broke. I have a hayter that is over 35 years old and built like a tank -we still use it today. The new ones are cheaply made and don’t last , I wouldn’t buy another
Good video mate! I've got a Prostripe and have been using it for a few weeks now- definitely the best machine I've had! Bit heavier but it's got a larger engine... and because it's heavier... creates great stripes!! All the best
Hi Jonny. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have you got videos of it? Glad your happy with it. For years I wanted a red 56 and now it’s here with a great engine 😁👍. Cheers
Great Review Mate, the best you've done yet i'd say. The Toro i think is deffo the better machine, the bigger wheels, better engine and longer bars alone make it a better mower but when i saw the bag almost full and the shute empty!! no comparison! top work mate!
Cheers Gary. I’m honoured to see compliments from you!! Seems to be from that video. If only the Toro was our first and at every Hayter dealership 🤷🏻♂️. Thanks for watching mate.
Cheers. Not really to be honest. If I was a smaller and weaker person I might but in general it’s only pulling the machine uphill is where you will notice the difference.
New 41 pro has been fantastic for us and in comparison to our etesia mowers is better in every way (would like it even faster). As for etesia plastic grass box vs fabric one they bag alike even in the rain . which Surprised us ! .
I think the 41 pro was a great success as a lot of guys were fed up with the 48 pro. Now new 48 pro is out I wonder how the 41 pro sales are. Will be interesting to compare boxes on the same mower. Thanks for watching 👍
Russell. Feel free to find me on Instagram. Have cordless hedge cutters but only use them on occasion. I’m not convinced they are there yet. Even hand held blowers cordless aren’t as good as hand held blowers form what I’ve tried and don’t have the range of power as a trigger does. Let’s see in a few years time
I own a 30 year old Hayter harrier 48 219 with the blade brake and nothing comes close to its performance but if I had a choice, I would chose the Toro.
Well some might argue that. Another UA-camr had one of those and recons the new 48 does better. All depends how you tune the engine etc. Surprised the BBC is still going as they normally don’t last long. Toro is a great purchase for the bigger lawns. Thanks for watching.
Good honest review 👍👌 The real test should be a few weeks down the line after the mowers have accumulated a bit more dirt and debris especially around the bag. Great video though!
Premier Lawns cheers mate. They were pretty mucky but completely agree. Dull blades also. But in general they should be identical but I think in the footage it showed this wasn’t the case.
Good review Greg, good points on grass boxes/bags. Boxes for wet conditions bags for dry . Briggs n Stratton Quantum engines were good also tbe Max engine range were solid !
Cheers Jason. Yep I think Briggs is going down hill but making their stuff look pretty. I forgot to mention the carbs on Briggs is now plastic 😱. Max 40 and quantum their best. Intek was great. But since 2000 Briggs have changed the engines so much where kwaki and Honda hardly have changed. Thanks for watching mate.
I am from the US we don"t see many roller mowers here if it not filling up it can be the blade if it is mulch and bagging blade try a high lift blade and if the Hayter is hunting the governor may need adjusting or has some trash in the carburetor that is what I have seen in forty years of repairing lawn equipment
Hi Tim. Well from the very first fire up every new 850ex engine has hunted a lot. So must be in the design?🤔. The new blade creates a lot of lift but they have regulations to comply with for noise etc. I don’t think there is an option for these mowers to get a high lift blade. Don’t think one exists being 22” long and the hole size being important. But baring in mind these aren’t designed to mulch. This was thick wet grass and they did better than previous generation Hayter mowers and are up their in top 5 roller mowers in the market. Once the bag is full it’s very very heavy. Kinda glad they weren’t full in the video as I might get a hernia 😱😬. Thanks for watching. I think Minnesota football (soccer) club has a prostripe in their tool cabinet so you should be able to get them over there if you want to stand out 👍
Great review Greg, think if I had a need for a 56 then I would go for the Toro, love my hayter 48, a few things could be changed to make it better but that's for my next video.
That sounded painful admitting something was better than a Hayter. Even if it is like a Hayter which has been to the gym!! Good video. Really like the Toros. Even using their 21 inch commercial 4 wheeler and it’s brilliant.
James I like the way you make everything sound so awful 😂. The 56 is a cracking machine don’t get that confused. But few details makes a difference. Toro proline you mean? Get engine cranked up and Oregon blade for it. If you can’t find it message me on Facebook and I’ll show you what one. 👍
Gregs Mowing haha you know I’m only messing! 😂 The proline 22298. It’s not mine. Was doing some work with another gardener and he has one. Great mulching too.
Fair point. They said it’s narrow as you blow more force. Like with a handheld blower. The flat nozzle gives a more powerful blow than a wide nozzle. However if you cutting long grass it’s got more chance of clogging 🤷🏻♂️
Hi there, have you noticed how the hayter 56 pro kicks out any leaves when the bag is empty? I get any leaves picked up being thrown out the left side and any bumps on the lawn looses the load. The bag is so light it’s embarrassing. Any ideas on how to stop this? Thanks
Hi Matt. Have had the bouncy bag issue plenty of times and I’ve definitely told Hayter! You could add some little hooks onto the deck for the bottom of the bag. So it’s more snug. Regarding not collecting leaves with an empty bag - I had that last autumn. I recon the bag is just full of crap in the weave and no air can escape so it just goes round and round and fall out the side. Again I’ve told Hayter. Best to wash them as much as possible really. Could stab some holes in the bag too to let more air out. Hope that helps.
@@GregsMowing thanks for replying Greg! I’ve been having kittens with this. The dealer just said they’ve never heard of this issue. I bet. So can you tell me how to do the hook thing. It’s only 2 weeks old so I shouldn’t have this problem but I do... as it wasn’t cheap. Thanks again
Great video I'm looking at buying a roller mower i like the Toro but from what I can see it's 66kg rather then the honda pro at 58kg so thinking honda. Both a similar price
Hi. Thanks. The 56 pro is 58.5kg. To be honest the toro with the big wheels and correct length handlebars I could hardly tell the difference. Few things to consider over the Honda. One being important from my experience and others is the rollers. Split ribbed rollers are better in damp conditions than hondas smooth rollers. The Hayter/Toro has 22” not 21” cut. Wider roller and are very fuel efficient. I can’t comment on how the gxv160 is on fuel but if you consider for the money it seems a no brainier for wider cut and stripe. All have BBC and the Hayter/Toro is more comfortable imo with no hinge sticking out like the Honda. Each to their own. Thanks for watching 👍
@@GregsMowingthanks I must of read the weight wrong on the Toro site. Your right it's a no brainer. I've just bought the time master this year and love it so want to replace my Honda hrx with a roller mower I think IL buy the Toro now. I hope they start making a smaller 19 inch I could do with one for the narrow access lawns
Martindale Lawn & Landscaping what does the Toro site say. 66kg is the weight. There is the 48 pro which is a huge improvement over the old one but for harder conditions. Aka long wet grass it’s pants. A Toro branded 19” with kwaki would be great
Clive, not if its done properly within the numbers set by the manufacturer, if done wrong and the engine is revving its nuts off it stands a good chance of blowing up

Russell the first time I saw it at saltex it didn’t have the grip. One I demoed did but the one I bought didn’t. To be honest I’m not fussed as using the 56 for a few months the grip quickly wears and leaves marks on your hands. They are only £7/8 from my dealer so you could get one(will fit 48/56 models). Does seem strange not to add it to the machine though your right.
EighthSphere1 south east England. There is groundserv in Sutton. Winchester garden machinery have a few stores. Best off asking Hayter via phone or email and they will let you know who stocks them
Another brilliant video Greg nice finish too on the lawn surprised you preferred the toro too the hayter since you're a big hayter fan. Why did you give up with the new 48 pro in the video the Honda engine lack power ?
Cheers Ryan! Ultimately it’s a Hayter anyway. So it’s not too bad 🤔😁. They topped themselves with two great machines and I prefer one over the other. Just! I’ll have a 48 pro video out next week and it will be clear. Keep an eye out 👍. Thanks for watching.
Great video greg! Iam 6ft 1 and have size 12 feet....my feet always hit the bag! Its so annoying. Dont know how to fix this other than shortening my strides 😅 i would say the hayter collects 10 times better than the previous model but still could/should be better. May have to look at the toro when my hayter has had its day
I’m size 12 also. I don’t hit it very often but I might be used to it so don’t notice it. Definitely improvement but like all tools. Nothing it perfect for each individual 🙄. Thanks for watching.
Noel Cahill well there you go. Email Hayter and say they need to improve. There is lift to consider plus noise remember. I hope hayter looked at every blade before completing that design.
I Was hoping they were going to fit the newer honda engines on the 48 and 56 but no . Is that what's coming at next saltex? That briggs engine though what a disapointment .Lol
I have no idea what their next products / updates will be. Doubt they will tell me. They didn’t say anything about these new ones till the media day a month pre saltex. Got to be a huge secret. A lawn mower. Not a military missile 😂
