A reel mower will mean mowing 2-3 times a week and you may even need to mow with a rotary first too to ensure you’re not slicing up large sticks etc. It’s a hell of a lot of mowing... The advantage of the rear reel rotary is that you can mow weekly and punch out stripes too. Your lawn won’t look at good as what it would with a good cylinder mower but it will get within 70% which is impressive mowing weekly. I have a lot of grass and while I do enjoy it I enjoy all my other hobbies too so I don’t want to sink 3-4 times more time (incl higher maintenance of cylinder mowers too) to chase the remaining 30%. I’d rather be spending my time on my gardens which are actually producing something unlike my lawn which just takes. Another advantage for me is that I actually prefer my grass longer too as it feels better under foot. Win/win.
Beginning was funny. That mower reminds me of a ferrari testarossa. I know what you mean about the clippings. What has worked good for me is doing a hybrid. I bag only near the house (and pool in your case) but mulch once I am 20 foot or so away. The bagged area becomes a shoe scrub and clipping stay out. That said, it looks like you will struggle with mulching due to the amount being cut at one time since you can only cut on the weekend.
Like the review. The engine is different but it is pretty much a Hayter. Put it next to one and you'll be looking hard for the differences. The bag on one fits the other. The small gas tank is a Hayter feature, an English garden legacy (smaller gardens)-I fill mine once every four or five cuts. I have the Hayter 56 but will probably replace it with the Toro when the time comes. It's eighteen years old. Truth is you need both rotary and reel. The reel mowers don't cut some stuff and don't pick up blossom and leaf litter nearly as well. Only a reel mower gives you the finish, though. The English mower I would have if I were you would be a Countax Ride-on. The contra-rotating brush unit picks everything up and leaves perfect stripes behind. It's range of powered add-ons is unbeatable too. You'll see one in every UK cricket club. They last so you can buy used.
Excellent review. Have had the same Prostripe for years and love it. You really need to concentrate and get the double stripe down. Looks way better in my humble opinion.
The opening made me laugh 😂 That's been my experience with most woman interacting with a mower. I intend to break the cycle of limited mowing experience with my daughter. Girls can mow too 👌
Reel Low Dad I don’t even know what you’re attempting to do. But I’m happy to help. If you need any more pics or angles - lemme know. I’ll send them to ya.
I have a couple of questions. what is the width of the cut? 22 inch like the Toro super cyclers?? Also what is the price on these? So these are self-propelled ? I'm assuming that those two back rollers spin when you're going uphill?
awesome review!!!!! will be using it on bermuda as my yard is not level. I eventually will be going back to a reel mower but life is busy and i need speed mowing the yard. I will most likely be getting the new model for next mowing season. The Prostripe was redesigned...and added three speed adjustment...only can get it from a golf course dealer as well.
Daryl Yeah, I had to order this directly from Toro. They had to ship it from the US as there wasn’t a single machine in Canada. Guess the ‘Pro and Residential’ models was actually ‘Old and New’ models.
@ Daryl. Did you ever get it for your Bermuda ? I'm looking into maybe trying this on my Bermuda. Did you get a lot cleaner cut than a standard rotary? like I use a Honda hrx217 and I get those circles scalp marks from time to time. I think that's because it's rolling on four wheels and one wheel drops lower. this is really rollling on three wheels?
Your are an asset for TLF. Your videos are having a kick, hilarious kick in every possible positive way :). Love it. ..And don't go from 5'' to 1'' anymore...if possible lol.
Milen Stoimenov Ha! I will ALWAYS go from 5” to 1”. I just can’t help myself! Even if it only looks good for that one day! Then I just hit it with the Defibrillator (Urea) and shock it back to life! Then I come back and it’s 5” again!

Dude... This is a fantastic video. Love to see this machine up close
Connor Ward Thank you! Truth be told, the cut on the lawn behind me when I’m wrapping things up at the end of the vid - was with the 1600.
I've been trying to think of ways to transform my super recycler to have a rear roller instead of wheels. I hate wheel Marks
Entertaining review!
Reading your lawn forum contributions I think you're in the GTA, what dealer did you order this through?

Nice video…. How level does the ground have to be in order to cut at the lowest setting? Thanks…
I have an Allett west minster but I have just bought one of these for cutting longer grass.

Fantastic video. Time for a single point HOC mod for my rotary mower. That was the exact angle I needed to see. Thanks for the awesome video.

Not historically a big lawn guy, but love the video! I am intrigued.
Great video. Enjoying the channel and looking forward to the next episode. “Get a reel..”
Doesn't look as good at the taller hoc
I need this machine.... for testing purposes.
Great video - The start was real funny 😂

@@rozweston Time for PRG next spring then ;). Problem solved (most of it).
Milen Stoimenov That was the first thing I did before I left this weekend! Hopefully I didn’t mow it all off! If not, I’m hacking 5 inches again!!!!
How did you buy this ? I can't find where i can buy one
I went straight to Toro
Love the video/review, thanks Roz
Can you mow tall fescue at 4 inch
Great video, appreciate your insight
Nice review!
Don’s Lawns thank you!
where did you buy the mower from?
I contacted Toro. Not a dealer, but the supplier. They had it ordered in from The States.
@@rozweston Was their benefit to getting it from supplier as opposed to a dealer?
@@Dante-vf4sd It wasn’t a choice. It wasn’t offered at a dealership. I looked forever to try to find one.
@@rozweston I see, thanks for clarifying. They sell them in Stihl dealers over here in the UK right now.
You need to go Canadiantire and grab a leaf and lawn chute.
m sev Is that one of those yard waste bag tubes? Yes. That Toro catcher is too big for bags.
Yup, Same idea it keeps the bag up and open.
Literally the greatest invention. Finally got one this year. Makes emptying my Greensmaster basket so much easier.
That opening sequence was hilarious. Just give up!
Lol u got a sub just for rhe beginning hahahahha
It's a hayter 56pro painted red
Double strip would be great
the start of this video was hilarious 😂
That machine does not mulch
Seriously put some Ferrari decal on it
I quit watching after 1 min.
