This is my story- I was in a relationship with a man I thought was the love of my life, he breadcrumbed me along about marriage for 6 years. When we started living together I saw that he was not a leader and did not care about my vulnerability or my priorities as a woman. I was doing most of the work in our relationship while he coasted along. Toward the end of it, I actually felt that god was encouraging me to break up with him. It’s the most difficult and painful experience I’ve ever had in my life. I used to go church but I left church in my teen years. This experience has me so devastated and heartbroken that I have decided to get right with god and go back to church again as I now understand through my own experience why religion discourages sex before marriage. It is a sin against yourself. From now on I don’t want to have sex without a marital commitment in place. I hope that god can see how I have learned and send me my husband.

This has helped me in sobriety also. No relationships after 1 year. I met this woman that blew my mind, but I have maintained self control and even leave the room at meetings if it gets to be too much. No idle conversation without someone else around. All that just to avoid fornication and adultery. It’s hard at first to avoid relationships but as time has gone there are still times I have to take extra precautions.

I was exactly the woman in a relationship, where I had initially made my intentions to only date for marriage clear before the relationship started and he seemed to agree. Unfortunately, this was never the case and I was an experiment for him. Thankfully we have parted ways and I never turned from our Heavenly Father, but I know how stuck I felt.
