I just finished re-reading Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers and am currently halfway through Better Than Life, having first read them as a teenager around 27 years ago, and I forgot how good they are. To any Dwarfers who haven't read them, I can't recommend them enough. The world building is great and gives us glimpses into things we never see in the show, such as the endless forms and mandatory existential therapy newly switched on holograms have to endure, and what Lister was doing prior to joining Red Dwarf and why he was so cavalier about getting sentenced to stasis when the captain learned about his cat. If you haven't read them, go and read them. And if you don't have the patience or time to read them, listen to the audio books. They're read by Chris Barrie and I'm fairly sure they're on UA-cam.
I have no hope that Craig, Chris, Danny nor Robert will read this. But. When I first courted my wife, she did send me a BBC DVD of a weird Sci-Fi show. When visiting the UK (Or invading, raiding whatever..... I am Norwegian alright don't judge me just because the bloodied axe) for the first time, I did pick up a "boxed set" of series 1 through 4 of the tv show. Yes you guessed right, it was Red Dwarf. My wife (the english part of the marriage) have since been teasing me (the Invad..... The Norwegian part) about loving British humour....... Take THAT
My two favourite films as a kid were Little Shop of Horrors and Labyrinth. It wasn't until years after becoming a Red Dwarf fan that I realised Danny was in both.
@@The-King-Murphy They're not huge parts to be fair. Little Shop of Horrors is really a blink and you'll miss it. Near the beginning of the film, there's a flashback where Seymour explains where he found the plant. There's a shot with three guys right in the foreground clicking their fingers and singing acapella. Danny is one of them. Labyrinth has a bigger role, but he doesn't actually appear on screen. He voices two of the fireys (the orange furry things that dance around and swap their limbs). If you watch the scene on UA-cam, you'll realise it's him as soon as they start singing. His voice is unmistakable. He also had a small speaking part in Blade 2, as one of the two vampires sent to track down Blade and ask for his help.
@@chrishateley5582 If you watch the Special Edition DVD of Labyrinth, there's a bit of Danny John Jules explaining that he worked with David Bowie to do a big musical number, but sadly due to the limited budget it was scrapped and they did the Fireys sequence instead. Most of the music in the movie was composed by David Bowie, even the more "orchestral" synthesiser bits. Fun Fact: The choreographer for the movie was Gates McFadden, Doctor Beverley Crusher herself from Star Trek: The Next Generation, she started her career as a dancer and ended up as an actor in her later years.
This is good, nice to hear from the performers. My views are more than a little bias (RD fanboi). RD, the writers, the performers, the techs and everyone else involved with The Dwarf was a golden age of Britcom. I urge everyone to experience this. The Beeb should still show this at 9PM on channel Two. Failing that, just steal it from Internet. Peace-out, smeg off :)
Red Dwarf is still unique, when it comes to sci-fi comedy nothing else has ever come close to the peak years of Red Dwarf. Futurama deserves a mention but for live action absolutely nothing.
If multiverse theory was true I'd like to think there's a reality out there where BBC continued Red Dwarf instead of Doctor Who. Making no change to the early days humour and the boys just cracking on as usual.
The fat the show keeps going on and on is proof it’s just bloody incredible. It’s just so much fun and yeah like every show days like the other episode that is questionable his guys honestly sick amazing I never witness a show that is gone from mine entire life and I see them now as relics and I do not mean that insultingly I mean that through age cause I’m the age I’m falling apart physically they’re also damn good yeah I love this show. I love this of you. I can only thank you. Posting it. I watch them more years and now I’m gonna go on Appleand buy the crap out of it. Thank you for cost me more money yeah I wanna go back from the start and just Joyce how much fun these guys brought to us because it was nothing but fun every single one of them thank you.
There is going to be another one filmed before the end of the year, to be broadcast next year on Dave (owned by BBC Studios), as Doug Naylor still has a contract with the channel and the script was already written before COVID hit, so it's ready to go.
Boys from the Dwarf!❤❤❤

Loved this - legends
I went to the Saturday Scotland Comic-Con; I was near the front row of the Q&A for this.

Wow. We're all still alive in 2024.
They need to hurry up and make some Red Dwarf movies like Promised Land before it's too late cos by god they're getting old now.
