Stock bumper was indeed wider than the car due to safety regulations. Take a look at any 1970s-80s cars. Your narrowing plan is a good one... not only to clean up the looks, but because the huge gaps between bumper, fender, and grill panel were filled with urethane pieces made of unobtanium.
The bumper looks good like that but something to consider... You actually relocated the bumper an inch or 2 higher than normal so it looks real high off the ground. They do make or you could fab a sort of chin spoiler to correct that visual oddity. The reason the stock bumper is so wide is because there are impact shocks that bolt between the bumper and the frame rails and the bumper can push back a few inches in a low speed impact and the fender wont get damaged. (That was federally mandated back then to reduce repair costs to consumers.) Factory shims in everything due to real loose tolerances. Everything needed to be adjusted to pass QC of the day.
It's so cool that you're building cars from the ground up. My son loves to watch you, sometimes we watch together. We appreciate your hard work and information.
While reading a few comments, I learned about the 5mph bumpers. It's a pretty interesting fact. I love the look of your bumper mod Adam, which gives it a sleeker look on the corners being pulled in like that. Looks perfect!👌🤓
On G bodys and a lot of 80's cars. Those bumpers are called 5mph bumpers. They were designed to take an impact up to 5mph without damaging the car. They mount to something that looks like a shock then bolts to the frame of the car.
Just for info, there are fiberglass "tucked" front & rear bumpers to fit the G body cars. The corners tuck in just like you did the original. On the other hand, a tucked chrome bumper just adds another level of customization. I have seen people leave the crown in the middle, cut the ends off, & remove the excess out at the ends of the bumper. Really enjoy watching your build process.
My uncle said the bumpers wider than the fenders because it was mounted on shock's in the frame, thay called it 5 mile an hour bumper.it moved in and out causing less damage when you smacked someone in the butt...nice job on the custom ft bumper 🔥
Diggin the bumper, I hope when the grill is in it lines up to the crown. I personally would have put a grill in it before it was welded solid. Those top grooves will show all.... Someone out there makes a 3rd Gen Camaro header panel that looks sick, with the sunkin in headlight buckets. Also, a front roll pan is available. Bumper delete, looks pretty crazy aswell.. Killer build
Yo watching from New Zealand. I love your attention to details such as that hideous bumper gap on either side. Just watching and waiting for a boosted boiz engine swap now. Keep up the awesome content. #HONDAGANG
If i’m being completely honest im not a fan of the frankenstein build but im still tuned in to the episodes bc i can still appreciate the creativity!!! Keep up the good work…👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
See's thermometer at 100*. 4:06 from the windowsssssss to the dooorrrrr. Till sweat falls on dem floors....... The Type R Camino is coming along hombre. Better fitment on the body panels than when GM originally did it! Good stuff!
Coming together way faster than I expected! Granted there is a lot of work to do, it already looks amazing! Stoked for the powertrain and other finishing details.
Bro i got a 87 Monte Carlo SS aero coupe....im not doing that same thing....but i know you know your stuff..... your the friend that everyone needs as i said before love the channel... definitely can teach me a lot.....this so lit.....bro i know this just comments....but i have to stay in touch with you....bro you lit
That is looking really nice Adam, the front bumper fits perfectly around the fenders and it looks like it's how it should be👌I really don't know what the manufacture was thinking of making the bumper so wide as how you had it before you cut it looked ridiculous🙄😂 Thanks for sharing what you do🙏👍John UK
Love the build, I was gonna ask plans for color, wheels, turbo...but I don't want to know, I mean I already know it's gonna be cool & that's enough for me!
My grandfather bought a Choochoo elcamino from down south and brought it back up here to eastern Canada in around 07-08 before he passed, what a unique front end conversion, and it suits the body of the elcamino when they're done up. I'd highly recommend going the monte front end route to make it even more unique
The El Camino SS used the Monte Carlo SS front clip. The non SS Els front clip is a Malibu clip, it's essentially a Malibu wagon and uses the tailgate and rear bumper, as well.
You could've tacked a piece of tubing across the bumperettes to hold the crown of the bumper at the proper angle for welding. Idea for next time maybe.
You could easily put a spacer to lower the steering wheel a bit. And if you need it closer maybe find a accord column or Acura one with telescopic steering so it can just bolt in and pull out another 2-3 inches
In 2004 I had a Monte SS that was stolen, luckily a had "lowjack" (if you know you know) on it with in a couple hours It was located by the Sherriff dpt. They caught them fkrs in full swing stripping my SS monte, I got it back in pieces with some missing. I also had an Elco that was gifted to me by my uncle who moved out of state. I decided to swap the monte front end to my elco. And yes those shims come factory like that. We also had sectioned the elco front bumper. They aslo sell front and rear roll pans for G-bodies.
In regards to the ChooChoo Customs Monte Carlo front clip, I saw some other guys channel and he swapped the fenders and front clip over to a Buick Regal. So that's another option for you is to go Grand National, if thats cost friendly.
That's how GM builds them. Cloe and shim it.😅 The bumpers were made that way because of the energy absorbing 😅 bumpers. The bumper could get pushed back without taking out the fenders 😊 Also, my choice is to not use the Monte front. Looks Great the way you have it now. Great job
Bumper tuck looks great but I think it needs more pitch or angle. It needs to have the same angle as the grill when viewed from above or from the side.
Yo!!! Bumper tuck came out perfect! Integra or civic seats sit 4” lower…same year civic exhaust almost bolts up with little mods…Gotta remember it’s going to squat hard when it launches…just not too hard,or else stock up on axles.👍Loving these rookie comments. Kills the monotony.🙄🤣🤣🤣
Dude love the build. Great progress so far my guy. Something to think about? You can buy dash cover for g body's so I'm sure they sell one for this thing. They are plastic and could maybe fit it over what's there? I think that would set it off if it had the El co dash or little bit of both? Lol either way man loving it so far!!!! Can't wait too see the next video!!
i say get it clean and stock looking with a chin at first to fill in a lil ground clearance then as you drive it and it takes on a personality choose a front end that suits it ,itd be cool to see a si themed elco but a clean muscle car look never offended anybody

You got to hate it when a really nice G.M car is only missing the filler panels, or they are unusable due to the unobtainium failing.
When the mic died just actually got up to check my Bluetooth and everything 😂😂😂😂 I appreciate the sign because I was like wtf 😂😂🫡
Same☠️☠️☠️
Looking sharp. Don't like that body style particularly. Like the older styles better. But super stoked you didn't use a Ranchero! LOL

Cleetus just bought a Choo Choo customs El Camino. maybe he'll sell you the front when hes done with it.
He sold it to WD 👍👍👍👍
Great job with the bumper man.
YESSS !!!!!!!........The most exciting build ever..........This car is more then a project, it's a necessity...........
This is such an awesome project. It's looking great--especially after that 1 1/2 emergency frame chop!
Bro u are GOOD at these swaps. I'M loving it ❤️🤍💙👌👌

Monte Carlo SS front end would be awesome. That said, that modified bumper looks real nice.
I kept the center and sectioned each side behind the push blocks.hides most of the welds and keeps the correct crown.
Great build Adam! And good luck to the potential giveaway winner! Have a good one. Dutch regards, Nico.

Bumper is on point,Adam!
You should make a custom grill for it instead of using a factory grill. But you probably already have that figured out. This build is cool man.
Yeaaaaaa I'm ready for the giveaway 🤘🏻
A off-road build would be super sick
If you decide to put the hondamino on a giveaway I'm definitely in !!! This build is sick!
Call It The El Hondo! Looks Sweet.
@BodeVision6 Cool, What Did I Win?
Been crazy hot here in Florida building cars lately, that's a COOL project though
It’s coming out amazing bro love it….❤ keep it going.. making that bumper flush it is satisfying to me to…
I LOVE this project! 👍
Pretty Bad when I actually want Monday to hurry up and Get Here! LOL.. Great Video like always! See You Monday!
We’re still freezing at night here. I’d rather be in the 100*. Love this build ✌🏽😎

Creative solutions are a fantastic creative trait, and you have it in spades!
The shims are normal, all those GM cars always had shims for adjustability. So far so good. 🎉
Glad to see some progress on the build! Looks to be going in the best direction! Excited to see the final product with the paint and the built engine!

Keeping an eye on the camber of the rear wheels... Looks very weird, but I'm confident you will fix it, when you come to it.
Love the build, I was gonna ask plans for color, wheels, turbo...but I don't want to know, I mean I already know it's gonna be cool & that's enough for me!
From the factory, it's a plastic guard. That goes in between fender and bumper to cover the gap

Dam bro, you do amazing work 👏

That’s awesome. I’m close to fern park. We go to the skating rink over there all the time.

I got my Keychain today. Excellent quality! Good luck to the winner and as always, love the videos.
Dude if I watch a few more builds, ima thinkin I will grow the balls to do my build. Thanks!
Bumper came out good. way better than factory
Looks so good!
Let's go bode my boy 💪💪💪🔥 content
superb video
😯 Ohh boddy, I know a El Camino for sale just asked your boy Cleetus.

Loving this build.
1968 Rally Sport Camaro grill with the hidden headlights would look sweet if it would fit.
@BodeVision6 with the 6 I figure you are a scammer and not real . Just a sad thief .
Flare out the bottom of the bumper to meet the panel. But you already knew that :)
Adam does it again! Looks awesome man keep at it!
Good job!
That's how GM builds them. Cloe and shim it.😅

"Now say it with me- BO-DE-GAS"
awesome, looks great. some kind of front spoiler with driving lights in it might look kewl.
The reason they used the bumper filler piece was the 5 mph bumper law from 1973.
Good progress! Love it! ❤️😎
Bumper tuck looks great but I think it needs more pitch or angle. It needs to have the same angle as the grill when viewed from above or from the side.
Love it man. Amazing work.
This looks amazing!
I think a grand national front end would be really cool and would go with the future turbo setup under the hood.

this is basically a subaru brat but way cooler
This is going to be bad$$ when done!!!
Was waiting for this!
Looking great 💪🏼
That Choo Choo customs thing you seen was from Cleetus MacFarlane.
My vote grand prix front. The Buick would be cool too. Even the olds g body. No one will have a GN truck with Honda power. Ever.
A Pontiac 2plus2 bumper from 1986 would be nice also.
Yes I agree Buick would be cool, grand national would be my suggestion 🤙
Looking good!
Bumper looks alot better
You could also use a grand national front end too

You should put on a 79 or 80-81 Pontiac Grand Lemans front on it!
Lettts goooo!
gotta love the random intros lol
8:00 'Chill out MAN' 🤣🤣🤣
Bro that monte front looks dope... u should do it! Monte Hondamino!! 😅
Letttttttssssss gooooooo!
Pro tip don't grind or well with your windows in unless you like them rusty with a textured finish lol😂
🔥🔥🔥
