“By the time Id get home I’d be too tired” isn’t that what every other parent does? Yeh I’m knackered when I come home but I’ll still look after my kids, I’ll let them ‘help’ cook food, take them to dance, sleep for a bit while there there, pick them up, give them a snack, tv time and bed. Repeat the next day. It’s hard but it’s life.
Claire is so lovely and gentle. I love her sweet 20 year relationship with her partner where they don’t cohabit. And the fact that she’s a piano tuner. And her loyal pet cat Puss. What a gem. I hope she is well still.
I also have a severe lungs disease, with 2 central lines in my chest. I have chronic respiratory failure and been intubated 20 times, and I still manage to keep my house very clean, especially with 4 cats. I've had people come over and say they didn't even know I had cat, much less FOUR, because I clean their litter box as soon as they use. I'll never understand people who can live in filth.
Makes me angry, I can't believe someone comes in an helps Rachel clean cos she says she has a bad back, ir always seems it's a bad back, my spine is severely curved and I got a hunch back and my spine at the bottom has been eaten away by a tumour and spinal fluid and I get breathless standing for 10 seconds and then seeing so many people just take it too far is annoying, there was one episode where a guy said he had a bad back an he used a stick but he didn't use it properly like he didn't put it properly on the floor it just kinda was swinging an he was going on about he can't work cos of it, I think she's telling a few porkie pies I probably sound hypocritical though but just something is fishy

Five children by five different fathers? The so called father's are responsible for the financial support of their children not the taxpayers. Having children is a choice and there are numerous ways to prevent pregnancy. These people made their choice and they should pay for their choices. A lot of working people would like more children but realize they can't afford them. Claire is the only one who actually deserves benefits. At least she is making a valiant effort to pay her own way. The woman who is constantly complaining about not being able to work because she would be too tired to raise her children is ridiculous! Working parents raise children everyday!

In the US a female politician stated some years back when speaking about the welfare system, “ Who are we to tell a woman when and where to start her family!” So of course they start young, as teenagers and never stop breeding until nature takes its eventual course and she cannot reproduce anymore! It’s very difficult to care for one child, let alone a gaggle of them by yourself so they turn to a life of crime to get the things the welfare check can’t pay for! there's not enough appreciation for Dawn. She puts her kids above everything else, and most especially is dedicating all her time with her kids. That is the most valuable asset. Yes and she also seems to concentrate on better eating habits then I’ve seen with other people on these shows. Balanced nutrition is very important for the growing girls.

She’s milking the system. 5 kids from 5 different fathers and she’s able to hire a cleaner. I have 3 chronic conditions and depression. I’m a mum of 3, I’m a registered nurse. I constantly in pain but I love my job and family enough to not give up on my dream of taking care of other people because I always tell myself “you’ve woken up today so that means get up make today worth it”. They make more money than people who actually work.

That’s what my mum was like. When her and my dad were together we lived in a village in the middle of nowhere and my mum wasn’t allowed a job because he wanted to earn all the money. He was cheating on my mum and supporting this other woman’s family and me and mum would sit in the house with coats and no electric. Anyway my mum kicked him out straight away, sold her sporty car that she loved for a cheap run around and we moved to a town she was in jobseekers for a bit but as soon as a job came up she jumped at the Opportunity. She worked het fucking ass off and I went to breakfast club everyday and after school clubs everyday because they were free. At first she was earning less than what the Jobseeker’s Allowance was but she did her absolute best to provide for me and I could not be more thankful to her
Me too and I agree. I was alone with them 13 years. Both are college educated which I paid for (they have loans to pay off too). Both in good relationships and are giving to society by working themselves.

As a Mom who has to work i find Dawns comments that if she was working she wouldn't be able to bake with her kids. I'm a single Mum working 40 hours and my son (2) bakes with me at least once a month, sometimes more. For his birthday I stayed up late and make him an amazing (if i do say so myself) birthday cake in the shape of a 3D tractor. Regardless of what kind of Mom you are (working or SAHP) you make it work for your child and give them all you can.

The contrast between Claire and Rachel is breathtaking. Claire actually has a serious long term medical condition and still works part time and does not claim all of the benefits she would be eligible for. Then you have Rachel who despite back pain has nevertheless managed to carry and give birth to five children, wastes money that should be spent on rent on paint, and even had a cleaner until her benefits were cut! What on Earth was she doing all day when at least three of the kids were at school. She’s taking the piss out of the benefits system.

Yeah, Dawn can get a P/T job for sure. I feel Dawn is using her girls' as an excuse to not venture out and do something else with her life. It's not as if her kids are infants in diapers and we're no longer in the idealized version of the 1950's. She should get something outside of the house and meet people. My mum has been on benefits her whole life and never worked. She got quite abusive when I became a teenager which now, I realize had more to do with her benefits being reduced when I turned 16. She couldn't handle the fact that I was slowly becoming an adult. She was home ALL the time. The day I left was the happiest of my life!

Really there is no reason why she can't work "mother's hours", as we call them here in America. Here for children her girl's age that would be 9-3. I used to do it when my kids were younger. It is tricky when school is on vacation/break, but she should at least attempt it.
@@marywood8794 my husbands income was not enough to cover all our expenses even though he worked hard...I did not want my children in childcare I had children to raise them so...for 19 years I did licensed childcare from our home and was able to be with my 2 children too...it is possible.

She did have to jump through a lot of licensing and clerical hoops to do an in home daycare legally, but that is what she did. Of course, she owned her own house. It's not something that you can do living in an apartment...at least not in the United States.

I paid £798 tax this month, plus another £340 odd in National Insurance contributions, and one month my gross pay was £5,200 (after a lot of overtime - 90 hour working week consisting of 5 shifts lasting 18 hours, with only 6 hours between them for commute, eating, sleeping, hygiene and leisure.) That month i'm pretty sure I paid around £1,350 in tax give or take, and my net was around £3,750. My job can be demanding, stressful, traumatic and exhausting, I work in the UK emergency services. I would more than happily keep paying tax at this rate to support people like her. There's too many people who can work but simply don't want to. I used to be an apprentice working for £3.20 an hour in Central london! My take home pay was £30 a day for a 9 hour shift plus a 2-2.5 hour commute each way, and I was just about affording to run a car on a monthly net salary of just £650 and pay adult train fares. If I can do it working for £3.20 an hour (back in 2013) there's no excuse for many people, given that most jobs pay significantly more nowadays.
I've had depression over 20 years, I still work full time, own a home, run a home and support two children. Work and daytime activity helps to combat this.
I was on benefits for 6 years. 18-24. Serious MH issues. Serious enough for lots of hospital trips. That's all I will divulge. But I needed those 6 years. During that time I never stopped searching for the way out of benefits. I studied sociology at home. I volunteered on a farm rescue. I attended all my appointments, regularly upkept appointments at the jobcentre, made my own appointments to see them, I used my work coach to access help for therapies, hobby classes and groups, and access to alot of MH help. They helped me talk to adult social services who were the service to help me into volunteering. 6 months of that and I was in a full time job. Yes, I have a council flat and a low wage job. But it's enough for me to pay my bills, support my 2 cats and have a little extra after essentials. Working has taught me so much. I hate having 2 days off a week. I would never want to not work now. I really dont understand people. Depression and anxiety can be genuinely debilitating and humiliating. You certainly wouldn't broadcast it on TV. I claim zero benefits now. I'm happier.
You're amazing. Mental health issues are no joke. Its debilitating and anxiety can be crippling. The fact you worked on yourself first, then got back into work when you was mentally able to just goes to show, you're a prime example of how the benefit system should be used for. £31,000 on benefits! With my husband and I both working before we retired we weren't earning that. I stopped at 2 children because I knew I couldn't afford any more and 2 was a struggle because I decided to stay at home and look after them when they were small and later took a part time job. Rachel's situation is all too common around here. She probably is depressed with all those children, but she wasn't too depressed to have them.

I get about £11,000 a year in benefits. That includes housing benefit and council tax reduction benefit which I don't receive directly. That is an estimated figure by the way.
Comparing Rachel and Claire it's evident who is entitled to PIP payments, Claire has a serious illness and would be entitled to many benefits but she still works. Lovely lady and I hope that her health stays stable.
same. on disability with a sever, on going arthritis condition, 30 and needed hip replacement since 23. arthritis plagues my whole body so every day is a living hell. but i still work a steady 20 hours per week (4 shifts, 5 hours each). yesterday i had a massive flareup, hardly could get out of bed but i still somehow managed to drag myself to work.
@@oliviamartini9700 no, I've only been on the waiting list for 3 months now, but my doctor said I needed one back then but couldn't do one because of how young i was. however my surgeon said it would be anywhere from six months to a year and considering how bad things are right now with Covid, he said normally it would take 3 to 6 months but they are backed up quite a bit.

Dawn really annoyed me when she said if she was working she wouldn't have quality time with her daughters because she'd be too tired. I work 2-11pm and only see my daughter in the morning before school. I wish I could spend more time with her but as a parent I have to work to pay my bills. Poor excuse for not working.

The problem is being a single parent. If you are a single parent you're already putting your kids at a huge disadvantage. If the family was stable you can mostly ensure a parent is at home with the children. Not to mention being a single parent completely destroys your finances
To be fair chronic tiredness does affect some people. I’m tired a lot from stress of certain things that go on. I still don’t think it is good to be looking after children on benefits or when the parent isn’t mentally fit themselves though and I really don’t understand people who have children while they are on benefits. We don’t know the full circumstances though so I suppose this shouldn’t be judged. Don’t forget, these programs are edited as well and can use bias techniques.
I worked full time with a baby and got my 2 degrees. At the start of my career In community welfare it astounded me the number of my unemployed clients with the latest iPhones and Xboxes etc. I worked full time with my child in care and I couldn’t afford those things if I wanted to. There are 1000s of working parents who balance work and family life. My child isn’t ‘broken’ because of me working and recognises that women do work. That’s his norm and is fine with it.
I get really angry and upset with people who say things like they cant work because they have children, it pulls at my heart knowing I am working whilst sacrificing spending time with my kids so that my taxes go to people who feel its their right to use them. Its ridiculous

I worked and had children too. I worked night shift husband worked days. We were married 31 years. Finally he had a couple of affairs and I said NOPE!! I worked hard to take care of everything in the house and to do with the children. He only had to work during the day and mow the grass when needed. It was hard.
Doubtful. We saw how she is at death's door. She spoke of needing heart and lung transplants and needing oxygen 16 hours everyday. I fear she may be dead. May she R.I.P.
Sadly it will never improve. Is a degenerate progressive disease & those are all "uncurable" so she will sadly only get worse & worse until she finally dies from the disease.. That's why she should get proper support. Truly I'll people will often do anything to keep some independence. Claire does it by continue to work part time.. Lazy people will blame everything on something else than their action.
I think people don't realise when they are watching these, that the benefits system has been completed reformed since these programs were made - half of these people wouldn't be entitled to benefits now. But if you hear someone talk about PIP or ESA just understand that they would have had to go through new style assessments to entitled to those benefits - and they are not remotely as easy to get as DLA was, in fact the process itself is pretty traumatic. Housing benefit isn't really a thing anymore, it's part of Universal credit, and UC forces people to look for work for 35 hours a week - and prove their activity online. Life on benefits has been made significantly less comfortably for people who want to just live for free - which I guess was exactly the point.
I'm not working at the moment and I have to pay nearly full rent every month and council tax so I don't know where people get they are living in a house for free and don't pay tax!!

I agree with Rachel; getting a cleaner 2 hours a week isn't a big expense, but when you are overwhelmed by problems, that help is a game changer for your mood and productivity. It is very helpful.

Series 1 & 2 were from 2014, so maybe this is from 2015-16(?) If I've followed UK policy correctly, there have been further cuts to benefit payments. I believe every country that has a social safety net, including mine (🇨🇦) there will always be dirt bags that fake illness and weasel around the rules so they don't have to work. Tax payers like me & everyone else has worked since we were legally able end up funding these lazy, conniving ones and it makes me sick with anger. - - I'm not referring to the ones that are in real need.

It's great that you did it but not sure what that has to do with anyone else's situation. You are you, not them. Would you tell a paraplegic, "Hey, if I can run you can too."? Claire has a physical disability and Rachel has a mental disability, those are jusitfied reasons for receiving benefits. Dawn could probably work though.

we all have kids, and yes even with 2 parents we are flat out. however, we were brought up with a work ethic and not to have other people pay for our housing, food, clothing etc. it is a sick joke that Rachel can have 5 kids by 5 different fathers and we foot the bill for them all. how did we get to this place, where single mothers can breed kids to fund their lives?

yep i think you hit the nail on the head. They have their babies and all the designer baby paraphenalia, and new build council homes, with all the fancy furnishings, get their hair done and eyebrows and nails etc and there are people who work and cant afford that. I have seen endless mothers with their kids in posh pushchairs, speaking on their new phones taking no notice of their kids they are just like kids themselves.
Do you all really feel the British taxpayers alone pay for the minding of these people and their offspring? The British Empire made sure and financially kept her colonies tied to them either by getting their profits or having British companies operating there and overly taxing the country. So developing countries cannot grow because their growth is stifled to take care of these people who live of the system. Trust this is not all on the British taxpayer.

My grandad died from the same condition that Claire has, it is irreversible and gets worse. It’s the same condition Keith Chegwin died from. What a Wonder Woman she is to be able to still work with that condition.

No it wasn’t a clerical job which was her field, she took a cleaning job which meant she could finish and pick us up from school.
Rachel's really playing the system, it's a wonder one of those kids hasn't ended up in A & E as they're almost feral ! No way she should've had 5 kids, she can't look after herself. Dawn is living through her kids, they'll end up precocious & full of themselves I forsee a meltdown for Dawn when they move out, but hope she sticks her course. Claire is an inspiration & the only one who deserves any benefits. Extremely brave lady, who carries on regardless of the terrible hand that life's dealt her.
The one thing I love about Dawn, (beside her deep love and excellent care of her kids), she makes sure she uses the money designated for her children. With the singing and dancing lessons for her girls. You'd be amazed how many recipients I've known who take money for their kids but barely feed and clothe them. They give their own kids the very minimum. They use the money for themselves. I agree on your other points, 100%. Thank you.
Rachel is lazy and needs to quit having children she can’t take care of. I have no respect for people like her. Claire is a very nice lady and I wish her much happiness and luck with her health. As far as Dawn, I do like the fact that she uses the money to help give her children extra curricular activities that they can benefit from. Plus, you can tell that she really loves being a Mom! Too bad it doesn’t seem like these Dads are around to help these moms. That’s why it was meant for two people to raise children, not just one.
My great grandmother had 14 kids in the 1920s all by the same husband. There were no benefits back then and they rented a large house and her husband worked from dusk till dawn to feed and clothe the children, I admire people like this but not benefit spongers who just play the system and are totally irresponisble, She should ask for maintanance from the 5 fathers and not expect the tax payers to pay for her mistakes, I think it is discusting how The UK finances many low lifes who are just playing the system.

I’m a nurse, mum of 3 and have chronic illness but I get up and work and I’m still able to be a proper mother. Her children are in primary school so she has no excuse as to why she can’t work part time. Why she everyone else have to pay for her to take care of her own kids?

I don't think it's possible to have a full time job and have total quality time with your children, there's a lot of juggling involved and guilt because you are not there all the time and for practical reasons lots of things don't get done. I work full time, I have four children and I'm a single parent, it's a constant struggle to do it all.
It’s refreshing to see this episode, specifically Dawn & Claire. Dawn is spending the child benefit on the children. She’s focusing on buying food that is nutritious & filling. Her home is clean. She’s not wasting money on smokes, gambling, booze, drugs. And Claire is an absolute trooper! I hope they both have a good future.

Its soooo nice that Dawn can stay at home and give the best of herself to her kids while other mothers who can't (or won't) stay at home and live off the charity of the state go to work each day to fund her endeavors. Agree. You hear parents on benefits say this allot on these shows - 'I don't want to work because I don't want to miss my kids growing up'. Yes but in order for you to do that, the rest of us have to miss our kids growing up so we can work and generate the tax revenue to support you. If she was diagnosed with a really extreme mental health issue: say schizophrenia: then that would be completely different. Schizophrenia, even when medicated can be extremely severe, and many that suffer from it, cannot hold down jobs etc. some can and some can’t/ it can also depend on the severity. Some with anxiety and depression actually can be extreme also: I’m NOT saying this is the case in this video though…………

I found myself wondering how many single parents are paying, via taxes, so she can be home for them. I have had a career and I have stayed home with my children so I see her point but she seems to have no recognition for the mothers that work to pay for her to be home. Were those mothers not working and paying taxes, she wouldn't be home.

What do we know about how its spent? It's not like we get an invoice, a breakdown. I don't understand someone on benefits having a cleaner unless they are disabled and unable to do it. I was a full time professional single mum of 2 teenagers and I didn't feel I could afford a house cleaner. The house wasn't meticulous, but it was definitely okay. A young woman with 5 children on benefits shouldn't have a 'maid'. Depression as an excuse doesn't cut it. If she got off her rear end, she might be too busy to be depressed. Exercise (such as housecleaning) has more positive results for depression than pills do.
@Lina S It's not a question of "faking it", it's more a question of degree, severity, chronic vs. intermittent, etc. Pills as therapy are needed by some (hopefully temporarily), but other areas of therapy are IMO more important without the side effects. Increasingly research is showing that nutrition plays a possibly pivotal role in the treatment of depression and other mental illnesses. There are some excellent video on UA-cam about that. Open your mind.
Depression doesn't cut it? Obviously you don't know much about depression. It can be completely debilitating for some people, hence why suicide rates are higher in people with depression. Keeping 'busy' isn't a cure for depression. It should be mandatory that she receive mental health therapy though because a therapist can help one work through (or at least manage) the depression. Food education and a life coach would likely be very beneficial for her as well. Unfortunately it can take years to properly treat and it's even harder when people like you discredit it. Also, there is a huge difference between raising two teenagers and raising five children under the age of ten. Having a cleaner come in would at least mean the kids weren't living in squalor.
@@gran7107 Talk it up as much as you want. Depression comes in many forms. Some are extreme and suicidal and therefore need to be hospitalized to get the help they need. Others simply need life style changes to lead them in a happier direction. Good nutrition and exercise can be massively helpful. If someone gives birth to five children, they better be prepared to do a massive amount of work to care for those children they chose to have. If they don't want to do the work, e.g. clean the house, don't have the children. The state should not pay for household help unless there is disability involved. I'd be depressed if I had 5 kids, too. That's life, not clinical depression.
I don’t think you can just make yourself too busy to be depressed, depression made me unable to do the most basic things that keep me alive let alone tidying up, medication and hospitalisation literally saved my life. Perhaps not in the case of the person in this case but I do understand people who are too unwell to clean and maintain their normal day to day activities without help
Dawn is very fortunate to be able to send her girls to all those things. I had 3 kids and became a single parent. I couldnt afford just one dance class for all three of my children. Grant it Im not in the UK, but I could just afford a roof over our heads, food and clothing, plus the running of an old car. I have chronic depression and a few other mental conditions which will never be a benefits claim due to people who fake it, so I know the struggle of keeping the home clean and neat. I dont drink, smoke or gamble, so every cent was for essentials. Christmas was the hardest time. I work now my kids are in their teens because things are so bad here, but if I didnt have my kids with me, who also work and contribute to the rent, we all would be homeless.

Yeh I’m knackered when I come home but I’ll still look after my kids, I’ll let them ‘help’ cook food, take them to dance, sleep for a bit while there there, pick them up, give them a snack, tv time and bed. Repeat the next day. It’s hard but it’s life.

I also have a severe lungs disease, with 2 central lines in my chest. I have chronic respiratory failure and been intubated 20 times, and I still manage to keep my house very clean, especially with 4 cats. I've had people come over and say they didn't even know I had cat, much less FOUR, because I clean their litter box as soon as they use. I'll never understand people who can live in filth.

In the US a female politician stated some years back when speaking about the welfare system, “ Who are we to tell a woman when and where to start her family!” So of course they start young, as teenagers and never stop breeding until nature takes its eventual course and she cannot reproduce anymore! It’s very difficult to care for one child, let alone a gaggle of them by yourself so they turn to a life of crime to get the things the welfare check can’t pay for! there's not enough appreciation for Dawn. She puts her kids above everything else, and most especially is dedicating all her time with her kids. That is the most valuable asset. You can buy them whatever you want, but in the end, being loved and educated (and of course a home) will be all that matters
Yes and she also seems to concentrate on better eating habits then I’ve seen with other people on these shows. Balanced nutrition is very important for the growing girls.
This is why I study hard at school, so I can have a great job, which will enable me to be a good husband and support a family like Dawn's.

That’s what my mum was like. When her and my dad were together we lived in a village in the middle of nowhere and my mum wasn’t allowed a job because he wanted to earn all the money. He was cheating on my mum and supporting this other woman’s family and me and mum would sit in the house with coats and no electric. Anyway my mum kicked him out straight away, sold her sporty car that she loved for a cheap run around and we moved to a town she was in jobseekers for a bit but as soon as a job came up she jumped at the Opportunity. She worked het fucking ass off and I went to breakfast club everyday and after school clubs everyday because they were free. At first she was earning less than what the Jobseeker’s Allowance was but she did her absolute best to provide for me and I could not be more thankful to her
Me too and I agree. I was alone with them 13 years. Both are college educated which I paid for (they have loans to pay off too). Both in good relationships and are giving to society by working themselves.

As a Mom who has to work i find Dawns comments that if she was working she wouldn't be able to bake with her kids. I'm a single Mum working 40 hours and my son (2) bakes with me at least once a month, sometimes more. For his birthday I stayed up late and make him an amazing (if i do say so myself) birthday cake in the shape of a 3D tractor. Regardless of what kind of Mom you are (working or SAHP) you make it work for your child and give them all you can.

The contrast between Claire and Rachel is breathtaking. Claire actually has a serious long term medical condition and still works part time and does not claim all of the benefits she would be eligible for.
Then you have Rachel who despite back pain has nevertheless managed to carry and give birth to five children, wastes money that should be spent on rent on paint, and even had a cleaner until her benefits were cut! What on Earth was she doing all day when at least three of the kids were at school. She’s taking the piss out of the benefits system.

Yeah, Dawn can get a P/T job for sure. I feel Dawn is using her girls' as an excuse to not venture out and do something else with her life. It's not as if her kids are infants in diapers and we're no longer in the idealized version of the 1950's. She should get something outside of the house and meet people. My mum has been on benefits her whole life and never worked. She got quite abusive when I became a teenager which now, I realize had more to do with her benefits being reduced when I turned 16. She couldn't handle the fact that I was slowly becoming an adult. She was home ALL the time. The day I left was the happiest of my life!

Really there is no reason why she can't work "mother's hours", as we call them here in America. Here for children her girl's age that would be 9-3. I used to do it when my kids were younger. It is tricky when school is on vacation/break, but she should at least attempt it.
@@marywood8794 my husbands income was not enough to cover all our expenses even though he worked hard...I did not want my children in childcare I had children to raise them so...for 19 years I did licensed childcare from our home and was able to be with my 2 children too...it is possible.
@@esthers9140 My mother's cousin did that too. She continued with it long after her kids were grown up because she loved it. She did have to jump through a lot of licensing and clerical hoops to do an in home daycare legally, but that is what she did. Of course, she owned her own house. It's not something that you can do living in an apartment...at least not in the United States.

I paid £798 tax this month, plus another £340 odd in National Insurance contributions, and one month my gross pay was £5,200 (after a lot of overtime - 90 hour working week consisting of 5 shifts lasting 18 hours, with only 6 hours between them for commute, eating, sleeping, hygiene and leisure.) That month i'm pretty sure I paid around £1,350 in tax give or take, and my net was around £3,750. My job can be demanding, stressful, traumatic and exhausting, I work in the UK emergency services.
I would more than happily keep paying tax at this rate to support people like her. There's too many people who can work but simply don't want to. I used to be an apprentice working for £3.20 an hour in Central london! My take home pay was £30 a day for a 9 hour shift plus a 2-2.5 hour commute each way, and I was just about affording to run a car on a monthly net salary of just £650 and pay adult train fares. If I can do it working for £3.20 an hour (back in 2013) there's no excuse for many people, given that most jobs pay significantly more nowadays.

I've had depression over 20 years, I still work full time, own a home, run a home and support two children. Work and daytime activity helps to combat this.

I was on benefits for 6 years. 18-24. Serious MH issues. Serious enough for lots of hospital trips. That's all I will divulge. But I needed those 6 years. During that time I never stopped searching for the way out of benefits. I studied sociology at home. I volunteered on a farm rescue. I attended all my appointments, regularly upkept appointments at the jobcentre, made my own appointments to see them, I used my work coach to access help for therapies, hobby classes and groups, and access to alot of MH help. They helped me talk to adult social services who were the service to help me into volunteering. 6 months of that and I was in a full time job. Yes, I have a council flat and a low wage job. But it's enough for me to pay my bills, support my 2 cats and have a little extra after essentials. Working has taught me so much. I hate having 2 days off a week. I would never want to not work now. I really dont understand people. Depression and anxiety can be genuinely debilitating and humiliating. You certainly wouldn't broadcast it on TV. I claim zero benefits now. I'm happier.
You're amazing. Mental health issues are no joke. Its debilitating and anxiety can be crippling. The fact you worked on yourself first, then got back into work when you was mentally able to just goes to show, you're a prime example of how the benefit system should be used for. I'm so happy you're doing better and a job you love.

I stopped at 2 children because I knew I couldn't afford any more and 2 was a struggle because I decided to stay at home and look after them when they were small and later took a part time job. Rachel's situation is all too common around here. She probably is depressed with all those children, but she wasn't too depressed to have them.

Comparing Rachel and Claire it's evident who is entitled to PIP payments, Claire has a serious illness and would be entitled to many benefits but she still works. Lovely lady and I hope that her health stays stable.
same. on disability with a sever, on going arthritis condition, 30 and needed hip replacement since 23. arthritis plagues my whole body so every day is a living hell. but i still work a steady 20 hours per week (4 shifts, 5 hours each). yesterday i had a massive flareup, hardly could get out of bed but i still somehow managed to drag myself to work.

Dawn really annoyed me when she said if she was working she wouldn't have quality time with her daughters because she'd be too tired. I work 2-11pm and only see my daughter in the morning before school. I wish I could spend more time with her but as a parent I have to work to pay my bills. Poor excuse for not working.

The problem is being a single parent. If you are a single parent you're already putting your kids at a huge disadvantage. If the family was stable you can mostly ensure a parent is at home with the children. Not to mention being a single parent completely destroys your finances
To be fair chronic tiredness does affect some people. I’m tired a lot from stress of certain things that go on. I still don’t think it is good to be looking after children on benefits or when the parent isn’t mentally fit themselves though and I really don’t understand people who have children while they are on benefits. We don’t know the full circumstances though so I suppose this shouldn’t be judged. Don’t forget, these programs are edited as well and can use bias techniques.
I worked full time with a baby and got my 2 degrees. At the start of my career In community welfare it astounded me the number of my unemployed clients with the latest iPhones and Xboxes etc. I worked full time with my child in care and I couldn’t afford those things if I wanted to. There are 1000s of working parents who balance work and family life. My child isn’t ‘broken’ because of me working and recognises that women do work. That’s his norm and is fine with it.
I get really angry and upset with people who say things like they cant work because they have children, it pulls at my heart knowing I am working whilst sacrificing spending time with my kids so that my taxes go to people who feel its their right to use them. Its ridiculous

I worked and had children too. I worked night shift husband worked days. We were married 31 years. Finally he had a couple of affairs and I said NOPE!! I worked hard to take care of everything in the house and to do with the children. He only had to work during the day and mow the grass when needed. It was hard.

I think people don't realise when they are watching these, that the benefits system has been completed reformed since these programs were made - half of these people wouldn't be entitled to benefits now.
But if you hear someone talk about PIP or ESA just understand that they would have had to go through new style assessments to entitled to those benefits - and they are not remotely as easy to get as DLA was, in fact the process itself is pretty traumatic.
Housing benefit isn't really a thing anymore, it's part of Universal credit, and UC forces people to look for work for 35 hours a week - and prove their activity online. Life on benefits has been made significantly less comfortably for people who want to just live for free - which I guess was exactly the point.
I'm not working at the moment and I have to pay nearly full rent every month and council tax so I don't know where people get they are living in a house for free and don't pay tax!!

Series 1 & 2 were from 2014, so maybe this is from 2015-16(?) If I've followed UK policy correctly, there have been further cuts to benefit payments.
I believe every country that has a social safety net, including mine (🇨🇦) there will always be dirt bags that fake illness and weasel around the rules so they don't have to work. Tax payers like me & everyone else has worked since we were legally able end up funding these lazy, conniving ones and it makes me sick with anger. - - I'm not referring to the ones that are in real need.

we all have kids, and yes even with 2 parents we are flat out. however, we were brought up with a work ethic and not to have other people pay for our housing, food, clothing etc. it is a sick joke that Rachel can have 5 kids by 5 different fathers and we foot the bill for them all. how did we get to this place, where single mothers can breed kids to fund their lives?

yep i think you hit the nail on the head. They have their babies and all the designer baby paraphenalia, and new build council homes, with all the fancy furnishings, get their hair done and eyebrows and nails etc and there are people who work and cant afford that. I have seen endless mothers with their kids in posh pushchairs, speaking on their new phones taking no notice of their kids they are just like kids themselves.
Do you all really feel the British taxpayers alone pay for the minding of these people and their offspring? The British Empire made sure and financially kept her colonies tied to them either by getting their profits or having British companies operating there and overly taxing the country. So developing countries cannot grow because their growth is stifled to take care of these people who live of the system. Trust this is not all on the British taxpayer.

My grandad died from the same condition that Claire has, it is irreversible and gets worse. It’s the same condition Keith Chegwin died from. What a Wonder Woman she is to be able to still work with that condition.
I am so impressed with Claire! I was a single mom and worked full time. I did miss a lot and my kids missed a lot, too. Lizzie is doing the hardest job. But, we do what we need to do.

This is twice what i bring home working full time. No wonder this country is in such a mess. My mum worked hours to fit in with school when we were kids. No it wasn’t a clerical job which was her field, she took a cleaning job which meant she could finish and pick us up from school.

My great grandmother had 14 kids in the 1920s all by the same husband. There were no benefits back then and they rented a large house and her husband worked from dusk till dawn to feed and clothe the children, I admire people like this but not benefit spongers who just play the system and are totally irresponisble, She should ask for maintanance from the 5 fathers and not expect the tax payers to pay for her mistakes, I think it is discusting how The UK finances many low lifes who are just playing the system.

I don't think it's possible to have a full time job and have total quality time with your children, there's a lot of juggling involved and guilt because you are not there all the time and for practical reasons lots of things don't get done. I work full time, I have four children and I'm a single parent, it's a constant struggle to do it all.

Bad back, anxiety and depression - typical conditions used to not work. Manages to lift the kids up with no problem! That house is disgusting! I have back issues and mental health issues but work full time plus overtime.
All 3 of which are extremely difficult to disprove and easy to claim without any outward signs of illness. Convenient that isn't it...

If she was diagnosed with a really extreme mental health issue: say schizophrenia: then that would be completely different. Schizophrenia, even when medicated can be extremely severe, and many that suffer from it, cannot hold down jobs etc. some can and some can’t/ it can also depend on the severity. Some with anxiety and depression actually can be extreme also: I’m NOT saying this is the case in this video though…………
Ah this right here shows who the target demographic of these shows are. Endless suck ups to corporations and more than willing to knock down other people with similar conditions to hold themselves in high esteem. I bet you read the Daily Mail.

i definitely agree that being a full time mom is more important than any 9 to 5 but for the income to come out of other peoples pocket i dont agree with that.
I found myself wondering how many single parents are paying, via taxes, so she can be home for them.
I have had a career and I have stayed home with my children so I see her point but she seems to have no recognition for the mothers that work to pay for her to be home. Were those mothers not working and paying taxes, she wouldn't be home.
@@Greatdanewrangler Definitely she should have considered that especially since she was on benefits before she had the girl's, so I understand things in life don't necessarily workout the way you think they will, but on the other hand we pay taxes no matter. What do we know about how its spent? It's not like we get an invoice, a breakdown. At least this way I think I'd be OK with knowing that it's going towards the kids and not into a politician's pocket if you get what I'm saying

I don't understand someone on benefits having a cleaner unless they are disabled and unable to do it. I was a full time professional single mum of 2 teenagers and I didn't feel I could afford a house cleaner. The house wasn't meticulous, but it was definitely okay. A young woman with 5 children on benefits shouldn't have a 'maid'. Depression as an excuse doesn't cut it. If she got off her rear end, she might be too busy to be depressed. Exercise (such as housecleaning) has more positive results for depression than pills do.
@Lina S It's not a question of "faking it", it's more a question of degree, severity, chronic vs. intermittent, etc. Pills as therapy are needed by some (hopefully temporarily), but other areas of therapy are IMO more important without the side effects. Increasingly research is showing that nutrition plays a possibly pivotal role in the treatment of depression and other mental illnesses. There are some excellent video on UA-cam about that. Open your mind.
Depression doesn't cut it? Obviously you don't know much about depression. It can be completely debilitating for some people, hence why suicide rates are higher in people with depression. Keeping 'busy' isn't a cure for depression.
It should be mandatory that she receive mental health therapy though because a therapist can help one work through (or at least manage) the depression. Food education and a life coach would likely be very beneficial for her as well. Unfortunately it can take years to properly treat and it's even harder when people like you discredit it.
Also, there is a huge difference between raising two teenagers and raising five children under the age of ten.
Having a cleaner come in would at least mean the kids weren't living in squalor.
@@gran7107 Talk it up as much as you want. Depression comes in many forms. Some are extreme and suicidal and therefore need to be hospitalized to get the help they need. Others simply need life style changes to lead them in a happier direction. Good nutrition and exercise can be massively helpful. If someone gives birth to five children, they better be prepared to do a massive amount of work to care for those children they chose to have. If they don't want to do the work, e.g. clean the house, don't have the children. The state should not pay for household help unless there is disability involved. I'd be depressed if I had 5 kids, too. That's life, not clinical depression.
I don’t think you can just make yourself too busy to be depressed, depression made me unable to do the most basic things that keep me alive let alone tidying up, medication and hospitalisation literally saved my life. Perhaps not in the case of the person in this case but I do understand people who are too unwell to clean and maintain their normal day to day activities without help

Dawn is very fortunate to be able to send her girls to all those things. I had 3 kids and became a single parent. I couldnt afford just one dance class for all three of my children. Grant it Im not in the UK, but I could just afford a roof over our heads, food and clothing, plus the running of an old car. I have chronic depression and a few other mental conditions which will never be a benefits claim due to people who fake it, so I know the struggle of keeping the home clean and neat. I dont drink, smoke or gamble, so every cent was for essentials. Christmas was the hardest time.
I work now my kids are in their teens because things are so bad here, but if I didnt have my kids with me, who also work and contribute to the rent, we all would be homeless.

Bad back but can sit on floor to paint, climb a ladder to hang curtains ?? She’s “owning” conditions that affect many who function with depression and anxiety and work & look after home and family 🤷♀️
