When my husband was in college, he took a course on beekeeping since his father had a peach orchard. I showed him your extractor. and he knew right off what he was seeing, although he had to do his manually. My husband has Alzheimer’s so it was really nice to see him react to seeing your extractor.

That is probably the prettiest honey I’ve ever seen. And getting that new machine certainly has made a difference in harvesting it. I have a sister who raises bees and I’m going to send this video to her because I think she would be very interested in buying one of these machines as well. I agree with Becky, I was thinking how nice it was that it leaves you so much more comb on the frame for the bees to work on again, I don't know much about bee keeping, but that seems like a good thing for them and you in the long run!
when you go to bolt the extractor down what I would do is use threaded rod secured to the surface your going to bolt it to and use wing nuts to hold the extractor down so that when you need to tip it all you have to do is loosen the wing nuts; no tools required
Have you ever noticed (probably hard to do now) but different hives honey tasting a bit different? I'm genuenly curious, is one sweeter, is another thicker, one more subtle or fragrant? Or are they all pretty much the same?

I believe it could be helpful to you if you investigate queen excluders! :) They go in between the boxes and stop the queen from laying brood in the to box :) itll be just honey (in that box)
Gday mate just use a hard wood pallet and screw / bolt legs to hold the extractor down also when straining you can use paint strainer bags you can pick em up from the hardware paint section fits over the bucket Rim bloody awesome also to get all the honey out just lift up pallet, and pop a brick under all excess honey will flow to the honey gate and flow out
An inner cover would totally fit under the Lego lid! It is made of wood and standard for langstroth then you could still keep your Lego lid and it won't get stuck

I've been following you guys for a while now and every video tells me this is the kind of life I would want. That and traveling.. not the stupid job that I have in order to survive. NZ is beautiful but the government destructive. Wishing you and your family all the best. I love you guys and want to thank you for posting these videos
I do suggest planting some sedums. Autumn Joy sedums are my personal favorite. We had them all around the house and bees, butterflies, even hummingbirds swarmed the flowers on the sedums. It was crazy. Also the plants survive the winter just fine, I just trim off the dead stems in the spring and leave them be. Very low maintenance plants that everything loves when it blooms! Only thing I suggest is tying all the flower stalks together so they support eachother because when it rains while they're in full bloom the flower heads will get heavy and droop over. They do pretty good in hot dry summers as well.
Please get a mentor for your bees, Slow down when pulling frames, check boxes when putting them on the ground as you had clumps on the base of the hive, and do the shake test of frames if nectar drips out it is not ready for harvest and your honey will frement, maybe also learn how to do a sugar shake test for varroa mite and buy AFB test kits, if you want to stop the lego hive lid from sticking place some chux cloth on the top box to stop the bees building propolis and glueing the lid down, Keep honey gate open when spinning or it will jam up your base bearing and cause it to rust. some simple tips for you.

We have bees as well, I’m allergic so unfortunately can’t help with collecting the frames, but I really enjoy processing and packaging it. We had a REALLY bad year due to our weather here and sadly went from 6 hives to ONE. We are in the process of trying to salvage one that we lost the Queen. We did have an abundance of honey from our one active hive, and collected a little over 8 gallons from it this May.
Cool. I like the tall frames. We have the same make of centrifuge, but the hand crank model. It works good. The best way to do be keeping is with your state's counties cooperative extension office. They will usually offer a class and a way to meet bee keepers in your county. As you get into it you can branch out and go to other counties bee keeper meetings, network.
I love all the bee videos, they are such interesting creatures. You guys go through such a ride with them and the other animals, best wishes to you and yours ^_^
With the kiddos helping and your new machine you really ought to consider an uncapping roller vs a knife or other tools. They’re like $15 and work amazingly well - and leave very little capping waste. Try it - you won’t be sorry! And PS - you took this honey way too early. You notice how thin it is? Next go round wait until you get full frames all the way capped. You’re doing awesome! Way to connect your family.

Oh wow, you wouldn't appreciate my honey. I use my feet to crush and strain my honey then I ship it off to the orphanages & grocery stores. So far, no one complains.
while bolting it down will help with the rattling to a degree another option is to have a few empty frames around with at least some combs or wax on them when you extract from less then 3 of the same frames basicaly counter weights and dont mix different frames even if that takes longer. Doing this wont only lower the noise but helps with the extracor having a lower level of wear and tear on both the motor/gear parts and the conection to its legs. Just bolting it down can either lead to it shacking itself lose or braking at the legs something you dont want to happen when its in full spinn.

What you will found out is also that your bees will produce much more honey. In Slovenia we estimate they need 7kg honey to produce 1kg of wax. Extract frames and bring them back to bees. Before puting in to the hive just spray them with water lightly. Bees will fix and use frames overnight. But be carful. When wax frames gets so dark that you cant see sun through it, melt it for wax and dont give it back to hives.
We used to drain it off and set the extracter out bythe bees and they came and took back their honey.Then we would sterilize.Bees are generous with their bounty
Honey is best vitamins for your livestock 1 tablespoon for every 1liter og water , or you can mixed it with grains or pellets .. from the Philippines 🇵🇭
They look amazing and healthy. Those jars look like little pools of sunshine. Our hive died early this year. Australia is having a real problem in the honey industry atm. There's some bug here that's infesting hives and killing bees. The only fix is to clear out the hive, remove all biological debris and have the whole hive irradiated. It's costly and there's only one place on the eastern seaboard where you can get this treatment. We may buy a new hive soon and move it out to our property
Did you know that if you take your buckets and tools out near your hives the bees will clean them off for you? Probably overnight everything would be all clean ☺️ Feeds the bees and helps you cut cleaning time too!
Such rough handling, plopping box onto another with bees all over the rims thus squashing a bunch plus top going down roughly with the same result. Investigate gentle efficiency with wise smoking! Much smoke used when not needed then not used when needed. Plus, a steam knife works much better than that tool for uncapping.

Yes, honey coming from different parts of the yard tastes different depending on the flowers in that area.

It's like a centerfuge in a lab. All sides have to be equal size and close in weight and that will balance out the drum.

We have a centrifuge. We have the hand crank version. Same green plastic. Make sure is is good and dry before you use it.

8:54 why not have all of them bee Flow hives? That way you can pull honey from all of them at once or however it’s done lol
for cleaning that drum, ive seen another bee keeper on youtube that leaves it out near the hives for the bees to reclaim the leftover honey

Hi. I have used forks to uncap honey. But one time tried bread knife with small teeth. It uncaps very good and even.
