    but you can go to non bonus spend as long as it's something that you need. like if you went to Bed bath and beyond
    doesn't have to be a grocery store like shoprite it can be a spa?
    so how many cards do they have in your country?
    do they still have 2 types of cards open credit cards which the full balance has to be paid off and revolving credit cards?
    how many category's do they have?
    do they have cards that allow you into a airport lounge for free?
    do they have cards that give you x amount off for a travel credit?
    do they have cards that charge foreign transaction fees?
    are there any downgrade path say you have there Gold rewards and after the first you don't want to pay the fee are there any cards that are in the same family but earn less rewards but is free so say from the Gold to the Green? or a preferred to the basic?

      I'm not a fan. I think if you spend a huge amount on cards (eg you claim back work expenses) then you can earn a lot, which in turn could be worth it for upgrades when flying. But most people would be better off with cash or rewards that can be used on everyday spending in my opinion.

      Hi Michael. My personal opinion on Avios etc is that they're only beneficial for people who spend huge amounts, often by claiming business expenses back.

    • @samc12345
      @samc12345 2 роки тому +3

      This card is a credit card, you can tell because you have a credit limit and an interest rate, a charge card has no pre-set limit. 30% usage isn't too bad. Anything under 75% won't hurt, 25% is probably the sweet spot so you're not that far off. The main point is just never miss a payment, pay that damn thing off in full every month and in 6 months you will see your score noticably improve.

    One that goes under the radar is the Vitality Amex which can be 3%. Cash back same as platinum but increases if you have particular vitality polices gives an extra 1% and another 1% for being active (gym workouts, daily steps etc.)
    Obviously if you don’t already have vitality polices (or similar with other insurers) then the cost of taken out the insurance policy defeats the object of getting the higher cash back.

    • @BeCleverWithYourCash
      @BeCleverWithYourCash  3 роки тому

      Hi Fox, yes, a good benefit if you already use those Vitality packages and hit those targets.

    I am content with my AMEX Everyday cashback card. Not happy about the recent changes , but comparitively speaking it's probably the best on the market right now for the average person.
    Their service is great. I donlt think any of my other cards come anywhere near them in that regard.
    I have cashback cards with Lloyds*, Barclays and HSBC.
    *Lloyds recently gave me a promotional offer for 0.5% cashback until October 2021. Maybe others will start to get more competitive too?

    Too bad I didn’t see this before applying for Amex. Now Andy, Amex have approved me for £1300 ( this is my first every credit card, I’m 23). I’m not going to spend this much every month, what happens if I don’t use the full limit every month ?

    • @BeCleverWithYourCash
      @BeCleverWithYourCash  3 роки тому +4

      Hi, there's no need to worry! The credit limit is just the most you can spend on the card. It's not a target. So spend what you need to spend and pay off as much as you can each month - ideally the full amount.
      In fact, spending less will be beneficial to your credit report. The ideal amount is around 30% of your credit limit, so £433 - though it varies by credit card provider when they actually report the amount spent to the credit reference agencies, so I wouldn't worry too much about this.

    One thing strange I found in all UK credit and debit cards is that, the name on the card usually is just your initial, and surname. They don't print your full name on the cards. Do you encounter any problem when spending overseas where they check your ID before letting you use the cards?

    • @samc12345
      @samc12345 2 роки тому +2

      I'm assuming that these are countries where you need to sign for your purchase? It's not so much a problem in the UK and Europe as they use chip and pin, entering the pin code is how you authorise the card. Plus with apple /android pay being more and more popular you very rarely get the plastic card out these days

    What appropriate credit score do you need for this American Express credit card? Experian out of 999?

    • @BeCleverWithYourCash
      @BeCleverWithYourCash  2 роки тому +1

      It's impossible to say! Even with 999 there's a chance you could get rejected as the score is just an indicator of how good your credit report is, and that's not the only thing credit card companies will look at.
      To find out your chances you can do an 'eligibility' check direct with Amex, or via a comparison site. This will tell you your chances of getting accepted. It could be 100% pre approved, or perhaps it might be 8 out of 10, or 4 out of 10 etc. This check won't show on your credit score so there's no risk to your credit report.
