PVC Foam Core is DIAB Divinycell or AIREX. This is aircraft grade composite core materials. H45, H100, H250. (45kg/m^3 up to 250kg/m3). The wing cores are non-structural, and are made with dock flotation foam, a specialty Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Styrofoam by DuPont. This only works due to the ingenious structural fiberglass layup design by Burt Rutan. It dose not require any shear strength or stiffness of the foam to carry primary wing loads.
This was a great place to do some extra explaining! Thank you!
What type of foam are those? Pink home insulation? thanks
No that's structural PVC foam. I paid quite a bit to get that imported just for this.
