- In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 5 mile circular walk from Sutton Poyntz - which is located 5 miles South of Dorchester & 4 miles North of Weymouth. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I parked my car at the Northern end of Sutton Poyntz and started my walk with a quick wander through the village, passing by The Springhead pub, the delightful mill pond and Sutton Mill.
My route then took me Eastwards along a footpath towards the village of Osmington - basically following the course of the River Jordan. Along the way I had some fantastic views North to the iconic Osmington White horse, carved out up on the side of White Horse Hill.
At Osmington, I joined the South Dorset Ridgeway and headed North up to the top of White Horse Hill.
There were some great views to enjoy at the top, looking over to Weymouth Bay and the Isle of Portland. Now on the Hardy Way, I headed Westwards, around the top of Spring Bottom and across West Hill to my next destination - the Iron Age Hillfort at Chalbury.
Following a footpath around the bottom of the hillfort, I started my return leg, Eastwards, back to Sutton Poyntz.
My final destination was the Springhead pub in the village.

What a gorgeous area Dave . Just can’t believe how beautiful this place is. Seeing this makes me see why you love these walks. We are so lucky to have you and Logan taking us along with you. Much appreciated Dave and Logan. 👏🏻 Enjoy your day ☀️
Thank you Melissa. One of the prettiest villages in Dorset for sure!
@@DaveFord so true Dave . I just loved it.
What a fantastic walk we had today Dave. The village of Sutton Poyntz is such a beautiful and charming village set beneath the hills. We enjoyed some absolutely stunning views especially at the top of the White Horse Hill. This is where we had a cuppa and enjoyed spectacular views out to Weymouth harbour and Portland. Yet another stupendous walk that we would never have found if not for you Dave.
So glad that you had a great walk and got to see those views. Thanks for watching.
Loving these walks
Those views toward the sea are astonishingly gorgeous!
They certainly are ..... even more so in glorious sunny weather!
Another great video on our home turf 😊 thank you Dave and Logan 👍
Thank you Matt.
Lovely walking territory Dave, superb views too. "Well.... (sigh), nearly opening time at the pub" - classic, Dave, get your priorities right!
Oh yes ..... vital to be aware of opening times!
Awesome walk in the countryside with lots of beautiful views and a amazing little village
Thanks Keith. The views from the ridge are stunning .... on a clear day!
What a lovely walk Dave, thankyou.

Thanks so much Dave🙌 Love your channel and Logan is fab🐶 Take Care♥️🙏
Thank you & indeed thanks for watching.
Beautiful countryside, Dave. And those views from top of the hill towards Weymouth Bay were outstanding. Great to have a pub open too. All too often they tend to be closed unexpectedly. Thanks for taking us along with you.
Thanks Lionel. The pub was splendid.
That walk would make a poet out of anyone. Thanks and cheers!😊
Yes indeed - I can see where Hardy got his inspiration from!
Lovely English village. Would love to live there in a cozy old little house.
And a very nice area for walking.
It is a beautiful part of the county for sure.
Another great video, Dave. Good to know that unspoilt villages like that still exist.
Thank you Jim.
It’s become a Friday evening routine - a pleasurable one - to watch your most recent walk. The stone in that part of Dorset is so mellow. I could have remained on that bench at the beginning and watched the water lazily meandering past. I’d probably be there now.
Thanks Mark. I just loved that Mill Pond.
I enjoy Logan's walks a lot...yours too, Dave. :D
Thank you Beckie.
Another great video. Thank you. Amusing to see the restored water pump had a yellow H water hydrant sign by it. I stayed in Preston once under the slopes of a hill fort whilst visiting the Weymouth area and had a stroll up to Sutton Poynz whilst waiting for bus as I was early at bus stop. I must also have walked that ridge many years ago when I was doing the inland leg of the SWCP from W Bexington to Osmington Mills.
Thank you Jean. There are some lovely walks around that area.
Well I say, Mr Logan, you and yer mate Dave made that mill pond look rather Lilliputian.
How charming.
Some lovely long range camera shots too.
Thank you. It is such a charming village - a great place for a wander.
Very interesting. I was born in Preston, now live in new jersey, usa
