I will say, as a SWAT monster, the BR is undeniably the superior weapon in SWAT specifically, at any range. At close to medium range, the burst fire of the BR triples the likelihood of a headshot in a given time period compared to the carbine, making it far more lenient with the need to make perfectly accurate shots. I have clips of me starting a burst at close range, missing off target, and dragging the reticule onto the target mid-burst, and killing them with the last round of the burst, or getting 2-for-1 kills by hitting with the first round of the burst, and dragging my reticule onto the second target and killing them with the second or third round of the burst. At long range, while the BR does have random spread, the random spread is significantly worse with the carbine, making hitting ranged targets a complete game of chance, in addition to having 2 less rounds per burst to increase the likelihood of a lucky shot hitting the target with the same point of aim. In short, this makes the BR far easier to use both from a trigger control as well as shot placement standpoint.

This sort of demonstrates my problem with Halo 3's sandbox overall. Too many redundant weapons: the BR and Carbine, the SMG and Spiker, the Mauler and Shotgun, the Sniper and Beam Rifle and arguably the Fuel Rod and Rocket Launcher. Not too mention the weapons that struggle to find a spot in the sandbox like the Magnum and Plasma Rifle. I often hear this complaint about Reach but It seems far worse in Halo 3. Edit: Almost forgot about the Spike Grenade and Plasma Grenade.
fuel rod and rockets dont seem that similar. Overall though Redundant weapons aren't that bad honestly they just make the game more interesting. And if you can make slight differences between them They aren't that redundant
The fuel rod, less splash damage, but faster fire rate and allows 5 shots before every reload, and you get a maximum of somewhere around 20 to 35 shots. The rocket launcher's got extreme splash damage, but you only get 6 shots and have to reload after every 2. How could you consider these redundant?
And the mauller's a duel wield weapon, it's a single handed shotgun that you can either duel wield with a duplicate or combine with other duel wield guns. I think that makes it plenty different from the UNSC shotgun.
14 years on and Halo 3 still looks good. No wonder it blew my 11 year old mind. I remember spending ages walking through puddles and watching the water move
Here’s some addition stats for comparison: BR damage is 6 per bullet (18 per burst) & Carbine damage is 10 per radioactive shot. Both have the same Max range at 60 world units & same velocity at 180 world units per second (neither became hitscan or velocities in the1000s until H4). The Carbine ROF is about 300rpm while the BR is about 900rpm while the trigger delay is longer on the latter (0.17 vs 0.26) in terms of semi-automatic vs burst fire. Neither one of these weapons are that accurate. The Carbine can’t quite hit the center of the reticule while the BR’s first bullet can but second & third ones cannot.
Personally I feel like the BR is better because once shields are down, each trigger pull gives you a 1/3 chance of getting a headshot. Snap shots and quick adjustments are more forgiving mid-burst because of this. You can kill 3 grunts with one BR burst if you swipe your reticle across them.
Some additions: Halo 3 BR55HB vs Type 51 Carbine. Damage is the same per squeeze, but BR has total damage which means it can be broken up, which only has a slight advantage in specific situations. Max kills (per squeeze) before reloading BR=12 CC=18 with cancelations BR=13-36 CC=N/A Max kills (total) BR=48 CC=90 With cancelations BR=49-144 CC=N/A HUD Sights: BR's is a small circle with a gapped cross, which is good for CQC accuracy bad for range. CC's is a small-medium circle with an open "X" and a small dot when red. This is good for optimizing reticle placement in various ranges. In summary; While the Covenant Carbine is a more versatile weapon the BR has a much higher returns under higher skill levels. In order to brake even the person using the BR must get 32 extra kills per full capacity or 28 kills with 2 mags and 23 kills with the last 2. That's per max kill. So you have to push 83-91% more kills out of the BR to just brake even. While the BR's best is 60% more kills over all it is only base lines at 53% of kills when compared to the CC... meaning the Carbine is 47% more effective than the Battle Rifle disregarding subject stats. Flaw in video: I noticed that you based your reload times on animation, you need to base it on time to fire. :)
I’m loving the fact that since that halo mega blocks reveal stuff everyone’s been going crazy and using the music in them as background music just a subtle thing I love😄 good video though I’ve always grown up thinking about these kinds of things but never really looked into it as any kid would rather spawn scorpions and mess about in forge :]
Unpopular opinion: the Halo 2 pistol was more fun than the CE magnum. Popping multiple rounds with akimbo H2 pistols is hilariously funny. The CE magnum is great but it's only loved because every other base (non-power) weapon in CE is garbage in comparison.
The carbine can be more effective for certain things in the newer games. With the running slow-down from damage in the new halos, the carbine allows you to stun the enemy more rapidly.
For me the BR's brother is the AR. Same reload, same ammo counter, both bullpup, and both fire a 7.62. The Carbine is more like a close friend to the BR
Its really the user, but the burst fire capability will definitely come in handy, especially helping out other teammates. Regardless the BR will hit more shots making it slightly better than the Carbin. The chance to get more hits on target matters a ton. I've always liked the Carbine and will pick it up no doubt.
@@GymBossAniki both weapon projectiles travel at 180 would units per second. I’m not 100% sure what you mean by shot deviation, so I’m going to assume spread. The BR has spread between 0.15 and 0.5 degrees, while the Carbine’s is 0.3 to 0.6.
I remember after July you said you won't be coming back to UA-cam and you were disappointed with the July reveal. I felt bad but now I love to see that you're back again. Love you man
The slower burst style speed of the br make it easier to hit moving targets consistently. The carbine requires more trigger pills and better tracking of the target which is difficult when you are spamming the trigger
You miss some very important information here that heavily favors the BR and why the BR was the gun of choice for any pro back in the day. 1) the BR in MLG settings is actually an 11 bullet kill with only 2 bullets needed for a kill after the shield has been popped leading to the more important part. 2) the BR is a much easier quick kill, yes the carbine and BR have the same TTK but landing every shot on the carbine is much harder then landing 3 body shots and a headshot with the BR. For multi-player the BR is 100% the gun to pick.
@@Weesee_I plasma rifle in halo 3 is one of my favorite weapons in the franchise because it does what it does better than any other normal weapon. I fucking love that gun so much.
@@RiggedDynamo it’s when you reload cancel continuously by reloading and using melee to cancel it. If done right, carbine mags will continuously spew from your gun. I hope there isn’t a limit to the amount of mags that can exist on a map. I’m hoping the only limit is time and what the engine can handle.
I love using the Carbine but find the BR fits into Halo's combat triangle _a bit_ better. The higher damage per trigger pull means you get more bang-for-buck with 1 burst + 1 grenade/melee when compared to 1 shot + 1 grenade/melee from the Carbine. It's situational, but against injured targets, for example, it can make a world of difference.
How did I not find this sooner? I'm a carbine Stan and always wondered why I did worse with the carbine In H3. Now I know why. Gotta keep that reticle as close as possible to their dome to utilize its better accuracy
There is another big difference between the two that you didn't go into, the effectiveness of their respective attributes in different combat scenarios. For example, it could be argued that against a single target, in a 1v1, the BR is gonna win more times than the carbine, assuming two opponents of equal skill level. Both are going to be strafing and attempting to avoid fire. This means that the player with the carbine needs to hit the moving bullseye twice as many times. However, I can think of a situation where the carbine beats the BR, multi kills. In team games or free for all's when you have teammates to help you deplete enemy shields, the carbine can clear up, shooting 4 different targets each once in the head to claim 4 kills in the time the BR could've only shot twice. So, it could be argued the BR is better against single targets and the carbine better against multiple targets.
This is always the way I understood the difference between them. The major difference. The carbine is only really better than the BR when it's in the hands of a pro.
I loved the dmr and carbine for their medium power accuracy. Perfect for popping grunts in the head, while still having the power to handle heavier targets like elites and brutes. I prefer the AR for my burst fire and other rapid fire needs, because a few rounds wasted isn't much, and the spread is great for popping flood infection forms. I should probably point out I developed my marksman preference in Reach on legendary, and most of the rest of my playtime is CE's campaign.
according to halo 3's files, both the carbine and br have the same aim assist values: autoaim angle: 3 autoaim range: 17 autoaim falloff range: 10.5 magnetism angle: 6 magnetism range: 21 magnetism falloff range: 13 deviation angle: 0 im not entirely sure what each of these numbers mean to be honest, i just know that theyre the same for each
how has nobody mentioned that if you miss a single shot on either weapon, the Carbine's faster cool down means you can get the TTK lower with the Carbine than the BR.
Exactly, the room for error for standard play is noticably better for the carbine. Br might remove unshielded headshot error but before that happens, every bullet or more missed in a burst increases ttk noticably and with little room for correction
personally I think it depends on the system you play on...right? For example, on console I'd say the BR is better. Reason being is the bullet magnetism. Yeah the Carbine has more accuracy but in a real match, if you're playing against good players at least, your targets wont be stationary. So I feel like having better bullet magnetism is a much larger advantage than slightly better accuracy. Now lets talk about PC aka mouse and keyboard. I just downloaded the Master Chief Collection on my PC, haven't played yet. But I'm going to assume here that there's no "bullet magnetism". If that is the case then I'm 100% going with the Carbine for the accuracy.
I always thought that the BR and Carbine were very comparable. However, I would probably lean towards having the BR to add to the extra phycological warfare of my opponents. Every MLG player, top skilled player would use the BR... so I should use it to instill fear into my enemies.
I could have sworn for the carbine it was 7 headshots. I remember hearing thats why the magazine had 18 rounds because it only took 6 headshots but it was too quick so they changed it at the last minute to 7 shots instead. The BR can get 3 kills if you don’t miss a head shot so it sucks you can’t do that will the carbine 😕 I hope they fix it and make it hold 21 rounds in the future.
@@bigchiefchance I think they dropped the damage a bit because (or at least, feels) the Halo 3 BR has a slightly longer delay between bursts than 2's counterpart.
If you miss with the carbine, you can hit the next shot faster. That's a HUGE stat you need to consider. Missing even just once with the br, means you're likey going to die.
Breaking down weapons in halo in a way that only a destiny play would do. Also BR ftw, mostly because ammo is much more available on maps in H3 than a carbine. Also because trigger pulls and aiming the BR is always easier to line up shots, especially corner peaks.
For some reason I've never been able to quite get uzed to the bullet velocity of halo 3's br for multiplayer so I always use carbines over it. The only times I'm able to score highly on br slayer is when I'm consistently picking it up.
plasma weapons did used to have a "slow" effect in combat evolved, which made them kinda broken but rewarding to use. I'm glad it was removed in later games, but it is still a cool characteristic of them from CE. unfortunately the effect is kind of broken in MCC, so I hope they fix it at some point.
Only precision weapon I enjoy using even if I must deal with precision only gamemodes which somehow halo players find enjoyable all day I use in halo 2 smg and pistol combo it's so funny ripping the shields with smg and rapid firing the pistol popping a headshot while establishing dominance as an elite
I prefer carbine, but one of the reasons why is more of a campaign reason. In Halo 2, most enemies are Covenant. Carbines are extremely plentiful and common. It's easier to find more ammo. Alas, I cannot say my reasoning for Halo 3, since I haven't played Halo 3.
Do you ever use the program assembly? If not i highly recommend it as it has all the weapons stats from bullet magnetism, velocity, spread etc... could be very useful to you when making this type of video :)
Imo BR is superior. For the BR, you need to make sure the reticle is aimed directly to the head 4 times in a row. In between those 4 times you have a moment to adjust your reticle, shift your position, etc. The Carbine requires you to aim the reticle directly to the head 8 times in a row. The gap between each shot is even shorter so you have less time to readjust. This results in more effort in using the Carbine. In a game like Halo, where there's verticality and every shot must count, BR is more effective. Also based on experience, much easier to beat good Carbine user while using BR than it is to beat good BR user using BR.
I had to play auto slayer because of how bad the impact of these two are on the sandbox. That was until I found out of much better the balance in H2A was... Still not great but you can actually use other guns and win.
I prefer the carbine. The Covenant weapons are more unique to Halo than standard bullet-based weapons, and its spawns are usually less contested than the battle rifle.
I disagree. For shielded enemies, they seem almost equal. But for unshielded enemies (such as in SWAT), the BR is noticeably better, due to the fact that only 1 round from a BR burst needs to hit an enemy’s head to kill them, which moderately increases odds of a kill at mid-long ranges. There’s also the fact that the carbine has significant hidden, and seemingly random bloom when you rapid fire which moderately reduces accuracy at long ranges.
@@thesenate2718: the BR always fires in 3 round bursts, giving it 12 bursts per mag while the carbine has 18 rounds. Unless you can get people to line up to kill multiple people in one burst, you're wasting ammo. You can take down more unshielded enemies with headshots with the carbine.

Reach's weapons are more unique than 3's, but they're all trash imo.
fuel rod and rockets dont seem that similar. Overall though Redundant weapons aren't that bad honestly they just make the game more interesting. And if you can make slight differences between them They aren't that redundant
Not at all lmfaoo what
The fuel rod, less splash damage, but faster fire rate and allows 5 shots before every reload, and you get a maximum of somewhere around 20 to 35 shots.
Here’s some addition stats for comparison:
BR damage is 6 per bullet (18 per burst) & Carbine damage is 10 per radioactive shot.
The thumbnail is the same death stance/animation that made the “chief is fabulous” pic famous in everyone’s file share back in the golden age lol
Some additions: Halo 3 BR55HB vs Type 51 Carbine.
Damage is the same per squeeze, but BR has total damage which means it can be broken up, which only has a slight advantage in specific situations.
Max kills (per squeeze) before reloading BR=12 CC=18 with cancelations BR=13-36 CC=N/A
Max kills (total) BR=48 CC=90 With cancelations BR=49-144 CC=N/A
HUD Sights: BR's is a small circle with a gapped cross, which is good for CQC accuracy bad for range. CC's is a small-medium circle with an open "X" and a small dot when red. This is good for optimizing reticle placement in various ranges.
In summary;
While the Covenant Carbine is a more versatile weapon the BR has a much higher returns under higher skill levels.
Flaw in video:
I noticed that you based your reload times on animation, you need to base it on time to fire. :)

Carbine is my favorite weapon in every halo other than CE magnum.
The Battle Rifle and the Carbine in Halo 3 have the exact same autoaim and magnetism stats as each other, according to their weapon tags.
Oh hey, Vadam. Didnt expect you here.
Would you happen to have a idea on the values for projectile velocity/speed and shot deviation by chance?
@@GymBossAniki both weapon projectiles travel at 180 would units per second. I’m not 100% sure what you mean by shot deviation, so I’m going to assume spread. The BR has spread between 0.15 and 0.5 degrees, while the Carbine’s is 0.3 to 0.6.
I assumed the combine was less accurate since the reticle seemed larger.
Oops!
Combine?
The interdimensional empire?
Top work lad; fantastic video!
I might start using the carbine more for that extra .4 seconds
I remember after July you said you won't be coming back to UA-cam and you were disappointed with the July reveal. I felt bad but now I love to see that you're back again. Love you man
I’ll stick around for a while, see how it goes 😁
The slower burst style speed of the br make it easier to hit moving targets consistently. The carbine requires more trigger pills and better tracking of the target which is difficult when you are spamming the trigger
Thank you for doing hard work and collecting data for players like us like to know the specific stats
No problem 👍
You miss some very important information here that heavily favors the BR and why the BR was the gun of choice for any pro back in the day.
1) the BR in MLG settings is actually an 11 bullet kill with only 2 bullets needed for a kill after the shield has been popped leading to the more important part.
2) the BR is a much easier quick kill, yes the carbine and BR have the same TTK but landing every shot on the carbine is much harder then landing 3 body shots and a headshot with the BR.
For multi-player the BR is 100% the gun to pick.
I just liked it as well as the plasma rifle because I play as an elite... Cov weapons look better on elites than human weapons
PR in Halo 3 is a pretty good secondary. It can easily knock someone's shields out and makes you much more formidable in close range.
@@Weesee_I plasma rifle in halo 3 is one of my favorite weapons in the franchise because it does what it does better than any other normal weapon. I fucking love that gun so much.

What if we get 16 players to do the carbine reload glitch.
I'm not familiar with that, what is it?
@@RiggedDynamo it’s when you reload cancel continuously by reloading and using melee to cancel it. If done right, carbine mags will continuously spew from your gun.
I hope there isn’t a limit to the amount of mags that can exist on a map. I’m hoping the only limit is time and what the engine can handle.
@@WokeDEMOCRATShaveASPD that sound hilarious
What about projectile speeds? I’ve never noticed if I need to lead with the carbine. But I use it infrequently.
Cool video, really interesting to see that broken down
I love using the Carbine but find the BR fits into Halo's combat triangle _a bit_ better.
Thank you for analyzing it I always thought that Battle rifle is better than carbine
np bud ✌️
I was about to hop on Halo today until I saw this: 1:56
Nah, I'm good.
it would be cool to see the 4 and 5 lightrifles compared
I use both of them
In an ideal situation you would have people teamshotting with both. Like everything in halo, "better" is situational.
after the DMR the Covie carbine is my favorite halo rifle. But that commando looking good
I loved the dmr and carbine for their medium power accuracy. Perfect for popping grunts in the head, while still having the power to handle heavier targets like elites and brutes. I prefer the AR for my burst fire and other rapid fire needs, because a few rounds wasted isn't much, and the spread is great for popping flood infection forms.
I should probably point out I developed my marksman preference in Reach on legendary, and most of the rest of my playtime is CE's campaign.
according to halo 3's files, both the carbine and br have the same aim assist values:
autoaim angle: 3
autoaim range: 17
autoaim falloff range: 10.5
magnetism angle: 6
magnetism range: 21
magnetism falloff range: 13
deviation angle: 0
im not entirely sure what each of these numbers mean to be honest, i just know that theyre the same for each
Thanks for the numbers 👌. I thought they were the same in the end so good to know
Covenant Carbine is my all time favorite Halo weapon. Love that thing slightly more than the Plasma Rifle.
how has nobody mentioned that if you miss a single shot on either weapon, the Carbine's faster cool down means you can get the TTK lower with the Carbine than the BR.
Very good, informative video my friend.
I prefer the carbine, simply cause the BR’s burst kinda bothers me from the vibration.
Great video! I’m curious, how do you take the distance ?
if im not mistaken, the Sniper Rifle tells you the distance from your target.

The Halo 2 Carbine was 7 headshots to kill with an 11 body shots to kill. It was weakened slightly in Halo 3 to 8 headshots and 12 body shots.
@@bigchiefchance I just tested it right now and it is 7 shots.
@@bigchiefchance I think they dropped the damage a bit because (or at least, feels) the Halo 3 BR has a slightly longer delay between bursts than 2's counterpart.
It was a 7 shot in the beta and dominated the BR
Got to love the green smiley face
I've always liked the carbine more in every game that you had the choice same with the needle rifle
Fun fact, headshots don't matter until shields are down
I had no idea about bullet magnetism
love your vids bud
thanks 👊
If you miss with the carbine, you can hit the next shot faster. That's a HUGE stat you need to consider. Missing even just once with the br, means you're likey going to die.
EDIT: they are the same.
I think the carbine has a slightly slower muzzle velocity than the BR.
BR gives me feel good chemicals in brain because it make more pew pew
Can you do a video comparing the sniper to the beam rifle in H3?
Alien weaponry would be even cooler of their characteristics including a burning DoT effect
plasma weapons did used to have a "slow" effect in combat evolved, which made them kinda broken but rewarding to use. I'm glad it was removed in later games, but it is still a cool characteristic of them from CE. unfortunately the effect is kind of broken in MCC, so I hope they fix it at some point.
I like the carbine but man it's too much fun in campaign to get a triple headshot on grunts with one burst of the battle rifle. So satisfying lol
Always been a Carbine guy. If I miss a shot with it its easier to make up for it since it shoots so fast.
Carbine looks nicer so I’m going with that
Carbine is my absolut favorite weapon from the Halo Franchise.
I think the big thing is that before reloading, all headshots, you can get 3 kills with the br. For the carbine, 2 i think? Either 1 or 2.
I hate 3 round burst weapons so I always went with the carbine. I even got a couple of people to switch to the carbine after some 1v1s
Only precision weapon I enjoy using even if I must deal with precision only gamemodes which somehow halo players find enjoyable all day I use in halo 2 smg and pistol combo it's so funny ripping the shields with smg and rapid firing the pistol popping a headshot while establishing dominance as an elite
the only stat that really sticks out to me is that the carbine is faster at killing body shots which makes it better imo
Not when I'm playing, crappy br needs like a whole clip in the face to kill for me but I get a rounds bounce off me and oh look at that no shield left
Yep
2:00 HELL NO.
SHIT I got mad like I was playing fuck
The carbine is Very useful in halo 4 legendary mode for doing headshots on the grunts and jackles.
Pulling the trigger only 4 times up close puts the br ahead for me. Less inputs easier to focus on landing shots
Yes but keep in mind missing any bullets in a burst has a more weighty punishment over the carbine. Very noticable at mid fights.
Do you ever use the program assembly? If not i highly recommend it as it has all the weapons stats from bullet magnetism, velocity, spread etc... could be very useful to you when making this type of video :)
Yes as you say all preference and what you excel at, I'm horrible with H5 BR but deadly with H5 carbine. In the same sense I'm good with H2 BR.
I’m not that great with the H5 Magnum, but I dominate with the Carbine. I’m just better with high rate of fire weapons so I tend to use them 😅
I wonder how both compare to the Automag, now that it’s in H3 MCc.
Still not great but you can actually use other guns and win.
i love when casual deny that they are using aimassist
I prefer the carbine. The Covenant weapons are more unique to Halo than standard bullet-based weapons, and its spawns are usually less contested than the battle rifle.
Guess it depends on your preference. I like the carbine and do better with it.
same
Seems to me the BR is a little better at dispatching shielded enemies while the Carbine is better against unshielded enemies.
@@spartan2ar949 wasting ammo isn’t really an issue in Halo 3 unless youre using a power weapon like Sniper, Splaser, or rockets. It’s not really like youre going to live long enough to use all the ammo anyways.
In h3 beam rifle + covenant carbine, you're basically just invincible in some maps xD
