  • Conservative leader Rishi Sunak helped ease Sir Keir Starmer into his first Prime Minister's Questions, holding back from outright attacks as he focused his questions on Ukraine.
The former prime minister made a joke at his own expense about not winning before launching into Sir Keir's position on supporting Ukraine in a series of awkward exchanges showing the two men being overly polite to one another.

Rishi was done wrong by all the mess he inherited. The only thing I blame him is for having called the election way too soon, just now that we are starting to see the economy recovering and Bank of England beginning to cut interest rates. He shoot himself in the foot to be honest.

This is what PMQs should always be like: Civil, respectable, and productive. We don't need the theatrics and the vindictiveness which has become standard in our UK politics. We aren't America. PMQ's is not about embarrassing and humiliating the other side, it is about holding the leadership to account, uncovering their plans, and provoking actions on matters which matter to us. It might not be "exciting" or "theatrical", but it's just grown up. More of this.
