Actor and comedian Barry Humphries, creator of 'Dame Edna Everage', appeared on the BBC1 live show 'Saturday Kitchen', several months before his death. It would be his final live BBC appearance.
He announces that his other character 'Sir Les Patterson', has released a new record.
Presenter Matt Tebbutt tries to quickly gloss over what Barry has just said!
Genius, and to be able to slip it in, on live morning television.
Barry is very sadly missed.
Clip was recorded directly from a TV screen as the show was broadcast. Apologies for quality. Understandably the BBC do NOT have this show available on iPlayer :-)
I have only seen a couple of comedians who had me laughing so hard and constantly that, when reflecting, I couldn't remember most of the performance. Barry was one of them.
I quite agree. Thanks for your comment.
Saw Les live many years ago. As he looked down on the audience he said to a lady - didn’t you used to be my secretary? I recognise the top of your head.
Brilliant! 😆Many thanks for commenting
Remember hearing him on the Steve wright show in the 80s. He was talking about his new record (LP) it was called 12 inches of Les, and with a sly laugh he quipped " if that's not a record I don't know what is"
Excellent! A comedy genius.
RIP Steve Wright too 😢
Both masters of their art. There’s a benefit to being in my 60’s!
@@MrTrapper28 I know the feeling! Thanks for commenting.
Love the off-camera laughter from the crew in the background
If you can get the crew laughing, that's all that matters.
Wicked freakin funny! Would love to have heard Sir Les belt that little ditty out! Miss you heaps and heaps Mr. Barry Humphries.
Barry is my hero! I attended your show in Vancouver, Canada.
A comedy genius 🙂
Brilliant. Never fails to have me in stitches. A sad loss for ‘fun’ comedy. The guys (?) timing was impeccable. And the facial expression on delivery. Just brilliant! The new blood should take note of what real comedy is!
Agree 100%
Just seen this clip, the female chef/guest, got the joke immediately, very funny 😅
The genius at work - superb
On Wogan in the 80s, he spoke of his purple-veined, cheese tasting club. Winked and tapped at his thigh.
Master of the off hand hilarious joke. RIP Barry. 😆❤️
Brilliant. You can tell Matt is a little nervous about what Barry is going to say, but at the same time, he knows it is going to be funny.
Right! And the director is clearly telling him, in his ear-piece, to 'keep on talking'!
Was he the greatest Australian export? I tend to think so. I miss Barry.
Certainly one of, if not THE best! Much-missed, I agree
@@TheChrisBalcombe Totally agree. Much missed.
It took me a long moment to get the joke. Funny how the lady chef got the joke straightaway 😂😅
What is the joke? Something dirty?
The reactions of some of the others are priceless
I agree. The reactions make it ten times as funny. Thanks for commenting. He was a genius.
Absolutely brilliant sadly missed 😂😂
Les Patterson was genius i wish it ran for longer 😂 filthy but i loved him
What a joy he was.
Unique! There won't be another talent like Barry 🙂
They absolutely weren't ready for that
Dame Edna, the only fictional character to have their autobiography next to all the 'real' autobiographies
That's not true at all. Alan Partridge immediately comes to mind.
A,true genius 😢 RIP
Yes indeed. Sadly missed. But at least he'll live on through television repeats.
Brilliant.
A very funny man for sure
Genius 😂
He was so so funny
It’s a twist on Billy Connolly similar joke on Parkinson years ago, he said he’d written a song called ‘How can I tell you that I love you when you’re sitting on my face’
So good.
Saw him (as Edna) take questions from an American audience in the 80s. A lady asked, "do you watch Dallas?" Edna replied, "Dallas watches me."
Love that! He was one of the most clever entertainers on the planet, in my humble opinion.
🤣
@@gilly4881 Agreed!
are you with me fellas?
A comedy genius, but this is a steal from an Ivor Cutler song 'Bend Down and Tell Me You Love Me'.
Hilarious 😂
For those too young, google Sit On My Face by Monty Python!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🤩Great comment!
Gold!
Genius
Hilarious!
Good morning!
The old dear looks like he hit he complimentary bar prior...
Hah! Maybe he'd already had the wine - always given with each dish prepared. Although he always seems to have that very laid back, relaxed style in his final years. Thanks for commenting 🙂
Barry Humphries was an alcoholic until he quit in the 1970s and never touched a drop afterwards.
And that was the polite version of the joke.
And I love ❤the video
weird UA-cam recommended this video. Assuming you're the Chris Balcombe I think you are
I like to offer a variety of content Gareth!
@@TheChrisBalcombe I've followed you in twitter as well
The bloke in the middle has legs like tree trunks.
Haha Billy Connolly did a similar one in the 70s (i think, may have been 80s) when he used to play songs in his set and he'd go "This one's cslled 'How can i tell you i love you, when youre sitting on my face". Bit more direct than Barry's version. Both incredible comics.
Well at least he could guess their weight
He was hysterically funny in all his guises (and I really enjoyed his humour) but I heard he was a right b’stard in real life.
Not what I heard.
Is the pollution in Australia that bad 🤔
Just a genius, a another sad loss to the world of comedy.
I quite agree. Thanks for your comment
Is this his last appearance on UK TV?
Interesting question, which I don't have an answer to. It was certainly one of his final TV guest appearances. He may have been on ITV's 'Good Morning' after this.
Heart-breaking to see him still sharp and on good form here, yet knowing he would leave us in less than a year.... life really is short 😔
He lived to a great age though!! I read that apparently even at the end when he was in hospital he had the whole ward laughing… cracking jokes about the grim reaper doing the rounds at night
He sounds like Dame Edna, How strange.
Babe ❤
I don’t get it. Can someone explain?
Thanks for your comment. It's all in the song title. You just need to think it through. I can't really give a graphic explanation - I don't want to lose the channel 🙂

Just imagine the ambiance, a beautiful summers day , cocktails and you have just dived into the deep end of the swimming pool, the love of your life is snoring away on a poolside recliner and you are next to the chlorine injection nozzle and then you fart which makes you think of those special moments with your loved one.

he's going down on the woman he's talking to. you're welcome
Muff diving
Ah yes Saturday kitchen where the most annoying man in the world produces the most inedible food in the world and forces laughter on his guests
Jesus! Davina looks rough.
Brilliant
