#LifeIsInTheSong
This song is a time machine for so many people. Thank you Shawn Mullins
yes! right back to the 'those' days
Totally agree with you man!
I was 18 years old when this song came out in 1998 and completely blew my mind. I'm 43 now and every once in a while, a find myself searching for a piece of my youth on UA-cam. Every time I listen this song gives me the feeling that is the first time i'm listening it, not sure why but it's an amazing feeling.
I love this comment. I am a few years younger (not much) and do the same. Music brings me back to a place and time that is good/bad/ugly, in regards to my youth. Can remember exactly what you were doing, how you felt, etc. when you first heard a song. Great stuff. I completely get this sentiment. I often go through the mid to late 90s rabbit hole and relive good memories.
College for me 2
one time YEARS ago, when this came out, I was in a car on the way to band practice in Amsterdam when this came on, it was raining...we turned it up, he sang to my soul. I hadn't heard it for ages when it was on the radio today at work. I almost cried, so beautiful.
And the storry! It is a f_n_g good song, cutting to the soul!
I thought about it for so long. Would rock my twins to this song. So many good tearful memories that was in 2000. Resurrected it self to me when I need the words again.song is haunting and healing. Thanks to the music genius who stole our hearts
Same kind of thing with me. Didn't know the song as Lullaby, thought it Rock a Bye. Oh what a reunion. One of my all time favorites
@@mindimills6425 I thought it was rockabye also
I love your comment, I feel exactly the same way...As I listened to it just now, tears came to my eyes..This truly is a beautiful song
This is so great. What a true artist. He wasn't just doing a thing .. he was telling stories. This is before the time of inept creativity.
also, dude can still kill it. Bro. You have it in spades. I wish so much more than the world gave you.
This guy is underrated AF. Voice smooth as butter. Great guitar rhythm and technique. Damn!
straight butter
My father was dying in the hospital when this song came out. I could hear him sing to me, "Everything is gonna be alright."
The first time I heard this song was the day my dad died.driving to go to him. After for many years it came on when ever I was having a bad or scary time. Amazing song.
Fucking right! I wish the world could hear this. This is what the world needs...
Yeah totally agree Brandon!.....
I have played guitar for 12 years. This song is really tough to play. Let alone to play it and tell a story at the same time.
one of the greatest songs of all time
I fell in love with this song when it came out in 1998, I was 42 and had the CD...I gave my daughter the car i drove and left my entire music collection in it for her.....and when I came to visit her (Fort Collins, Colorado), she was CRAZY about this CD .... it was her very favorite. It's something we share. I play it every day still....and Gulf of Mexico.... and nobody has this sound...thank you Shawn!
this guys voice still gets me
He's just speaking. My voice sounds like him as rough it's not hard. Just use your chest and sing from the heart
I was in a middle school bus, heading to a new school where i was on the only of my race. Doesn't matter which one. But this song helped. So glad I found it again, 20 something years later.
Hard to believe this song is 26 years old already
😢I remember seeing my daughter when we came dragging our tails from France, it is a good memory because everything was alright in the long run. This helps to bring back those days and it feels right!
Amazed how good of a. Guitar player he is.
The first time I heard this song, I was working in Zimbabwe, ever since I think back I get tears in my eyes. ..Thanks for the song.
The germany guy..
Like Nashville with a tan. Shawn is also veteran. Thanks Shawn.
Back in 1998 I lived in Atlanta and dated a girl named Arlene who knew Shawn. I met him a few times and would go see him at a little club called Eddie’s Attic. He was amazing. When my teenage daughter came to visit from New Jersey I took her to see him. It was the week before Lullaby broke and she was so stoked to tell her friends she saw him. I’d love to see him if he comes to Tampa. I know he’ll be in Miami in February so I may have to take the trip.
Dude, we all love you.
Shawn Mullins is an absolute musical genius who deserves way more spotlight than he gets!
It official…all story’s from now on must be told while strummin a guitar
I saw Shawn play at a little bar in Dahlonega Ga. It was called Beauregards. When he was still in college. Back when it was NGC. Now named the University of North Georgia. He’s still an awesome musician.
Shawn is one of my favorites
I know every word and I don’t know why
What a tune
“To believe in God is to know that all the rules will be fair, and that there will be wonderful surprises.”
- Ugo Betti
Well, I got the answer about the origin of this masterpiece. Thank you Shawn.
Dude is a super good acoustic player with unique style !
Just me….. my favorite IPA….. and wonderful Legacy Audio Speakers paired to Krell electronics ….. and Saturday Night….. no work tomorrow….. just a tad messed up…. Shawn never sounded better!!! Thanks EOP for the upload!
❤️🌻🌈🤟🏽
I am much younger than most of yall. But my dad would play this song all the time when i was a toddler. For some reason it brings back scary memories but in haunting real way shows how big the world seemed back then. This song tops them all for Nostalgia
This came out not too long after I decided to make SoCal my home. It's such a lovely song. After a bad day it feels like a friend, reminding me it was the right choice.
Thank you!
IDK why this song never grows old! So genius of you Shawn!
This isn’t his channel he isn’t going to see this
His voice is still absolutely beautiful!!

Shawn's voice has so much depth and emotion now....wow!!
Shawn dieser ultracoolen Socke ist über die Jahre nichts an seiner Stimme flöten gegangen, mega...
Immer noch Gänsehaut der Song, viel zu lange nicht gehört...
I used to love this song, now I love it even more.
I don‘t know how many times I gave my Soul’s Core CD as a present to friends of mine after playing it to them while on the road home from some gig … all my friends were delighted by the storytelling and the heartwarming mood of every song.
Whenever I find one of the CDs by chance in any record store for a nice price I take it home with me. It always feels like a rescue … and it soon after finds a new home with a newborn Shawn Mullins fan. Thank you for your music, dude 🙏
I have done the same thing 4-5 times over the years and Everytime I have seen Souls Core in an op Shop,I feel a little pity for whoever let it go..Mullins is a REAL songwriter,Top shelf..
Song pretty much sums up my life
Yet another song about a powerful situation, where a person in a bar, singing, feels like they cannot leave the FIRST place they ever played, cannot make it big
Brilliant song writer and awesome voice 😊❤️🎶🌹🎼
1998 Music City Bowl with my parents and we listened to this on a loop
Still great man😎
Just discovered this song. Awesome
Shawn is an amazing songwriter and we're lucky to have him live close by!
???????????????
Story songs are the best, love this song!
Wow such a smooth transition!
This song gives me goosebumps
Could listen to this all day...Amazing voice ❤
Wow. He is GOOD. I forgot how good he actually is. This is great and just what I needed to hear. Thanks for posting!
Here's to Eddie from the Attic to Red Clay. Thank you so much.
That was amazing… way better than a lot of so called talent nowadays… you rock man 👍
This song has special memories for me. First heard this song during one of my visits to Los Angeles. The places he sings about and some of those characters were all familiar to me - LA is full of them.
Reminds me of my 20s yrs.
This song is like a story telling
Loved this song since I first heard it! But to hear the story behind it and to listen to you unplugged is so much more! What a talent! Incredible song from the harmonics to the open tuning and chord progression. Then to add your Falsetto used so perfectly!....too many over use theirs.
I sing and play...but wasn't blessed with your gift! All the best from Canada!
Shawn has a great voice 🎵
I was in fourth grade when this song came out, i was in Canada when I first heard this song on the radio. Its also weird to see him so old now.
Brings me back to 2002
Amazing story telling indeed. Its what is so missing these days in popular music. Dudes lyrics are Legend.
wow. cool to find this version. Im about 20 years younger then the singer. But fun times in the 1990's. Thanks for posting. And Good Job rocking and rolling!
Absolute music perfection and story telling all roiled together , unforgettable performance
I cry to this song!
Damn this brings me back. This is one of those songs that was EVERYWHERE when it came out and had a cool vibe and riff that has clearly stuck with me. Thanks for the throwback!
Love this song.
I used to frequent a record store in Atlanta called Rainy Day Records where he played a few times. So talented.
Soul..
Damn. You sound so much better back in the day when I was living in SF. Yours is a voice that’s gets so much better with time. Your praying so f’g brilliant.
Shawn Mullins is a "one-hit-wonder" as far as I know. But he is an EXCELLENT artist. While this may be his only major hit, it is a masterpiece! I always use this song as an example when I complain how modern "artists" can simply not write anything remotely called music or lyrics like this song anymore. How did we get from the era where songs like this were written to where we are today with the crap that that flows out of our radio speakers like crap from a sewer...
This lad is a legend, give me a shout mate. I'll give you a brilliant lunch x
What do you expect?! I watched the Poseidon adventure in 1972. Live and learn
nothing to say but as a fellow musician - I love it!
Still a pretty cool song! Thanks, Shawn!
Love this song. Saw you at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Va many years ago
Awesome, thanks for posting this. Brings back great memories.
Great playing, such a nice song!!! Man I miss the 90's !!!
Love his voice. So smooth ❤❤❤❤
Dang, I'm getting old. He looks like one of the classic rock guys now. Voice still good though.
Good!!!
Love this song and sanger
Awesomeness
Looks like we have the same GIBSON! Best sounding guitar
gets real good at 2:44
beating...
I suspect that minus the rich part, so many could relate to this beautiful song. Except mine would be "he".
Until now I still haven't figured out how he get all those chords
Nashville witha tan lmao guy
I seem to recall that the woman he refers to was rumored to be Drew Barrymore. The timeline would seem to fit, though people like to make connections where none actually exist
I love Chinese food. Free Chinese food is even better...lol.
You weren’t doing anything with it until I wrote it..
