@@Oh_I_Will love your logic. So if you're currently dying of cancer or old and shitting yourself TODAY, but weren't like 20 years ago TODAY would be still better 🤔
This reminds me of the good old days of 107.7 the X FM out of Birmingham AL in the early early 2000’s. The X Fest at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre and the awesome albums called Live at the X lounge. They had awesome alternative bands and artists do a song or 2 acoustic only then put them together in an album each year called Live in the X Lounge 1-7 or so. It’s been a long time so I’m not sure if it was 7 but close. This song was on the second album. Other bands I can remember were Fuel, Better Than Ezra, Brother Cain, Sister Hazel, Creed before they got overplayed, Jump little Children, The Black Crowes and many more. I think this station helped push a lot of artists into the big time for example John Mayer, Train, and 3 doors down all did big Birmingham shows after the station had been playing and talking about them. Then they did a song for the X Lounge then blew up soon after. 107.7 the X was very successful but someone bought them out at the hight of the station’s popularity. From that day forward I haven’t been able to pick up a station that could compete.
I assume it wasn't intended this way, but him saying goodbye at the end makes me think he knew this girl wasn't gonna be around much longer and he was just trying to provide a little bit of comfort before she completely self-destructed. Adds another layer to the song for me.
I was driving through the 117 and 640. When I heard this. Beautiful song. And it brought me back to when I was18. Back in the beautiful ADRIAN MICHIGAN 😣
The amount of soul in this song gets me every time. Shawn's voice made it stand out all those years ago, but the message and emotion made this song stay in my head.
As a musician, let me start off with this isn't generally my favorite type of music. I usually like it a bit a more charged and energetic, but sometimes, a slowed down nostalgia trip is good too. The fact that he still retains the ability to sing this note for note shows: A.) How perfectly in his range it is (even though it has that falsetto whip) B.) How well he has taken care of his voice. Not everyone can do that for 30+ years
God bless you man, you might have been able to hit the charts hard with only one song .. but the song is so damn magical that its worth ten thousand. I salute everyone who has seen their share of devils in this angel town
Lay your weary head down. Dry your tired eyes. Lay your weary head down and rock-a-bye. She grew up with the children of the stars In the Hollywood hills and the boulevards. Her parents threw big parties. You know everyone was there. They hung out with folks like Dennis Hopper and Bob Seger and Sonny and Cher. She feels safe now in this bar on Fairfax. And from the stage I can tell that she can't let go and she can't relax. And just before she hangs her head to cry, I sing to her a lullaby. I sing:Everything's gonna be all right. Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye. Everything's gonna be all right. Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye. Well she still lives with her mom outside the city Down that street about a half a mile. And all her friends tell her she's sooo pretty But she'd be a whole lot prettier if she smiled once in a while. But you know even her smile looks like a frown. She's seen her share of devils in this angel town. And everything's gonna be all right. Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye. Everything's gonna be all right. Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye. I told her I ain't so sure about this place. It's hard to play a gig in La La land and keep a straight face. Seems like everybody's got a plan...they better man. It's kind of like Nashville with a tan. But everything's gonna be all right. Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye. Everything's gonna be all right. Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye. But everything's gonna be all right. Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye. Everything's gonna be all right..yes it is Wont you rock-a-bye. Say bye bye baby....say bye bye Your welcome :-)
A great song transports you back to time of its release. It makes you relive all the beautiful moments that you lived during that time . This song does exactly that.
Saw him live at Seven Steps up in Spring Lake, MI....it was acoustically fantastic. Some voices tell stories with their texture...his is one of the best!
Wow ! Your voice is even better with age. So much heart and soul in this performance. Watching / listening to you sing this story ... excellent. Thank you
So I left a comment on the original song (and video, which I'd never actually seen before) but WOW time has been good to Shawn Mullins, I LOVE this version.
It's not just his voice, which I think does more justice to the message. It's the performance. Shawn's timing, the tempo here being slower, and the little improv bits all make this my favorite version of this song.
What a magnificent and soulful rendition of a great song. I just returned from LA and this song always takes me back there. It captures the vibe and fabric of of LA so well. You should do a storyteller video about the meeting that led you to create this this song. Thank you
I love when a song can instantly transport you to better times.
But they weren’t “better times”….today is better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better than today

Same for me
Yes indeed. That's what separates the regular from the Art. It's all that goodness that's baked in. Fantastic performance, great song!
Some songs are buried deep into your soul...and you don’t always know it...
Until, you hear them again 😉👍🥂!!!!!
Yesss! I feel like I'm home every time I hear this....
Holy cow. Did not expect him to get those high notes. He did it effortlessly!
No shit right? Great performance. And then some! Been a long time!

Shawn's voice is like a true Bourbon ... gets better with age. Awesome performance!
Shawn Mullins saved me and my daughter when it was very important!
Brilliant. Finding out Shawn Mullins is still making music is just what I needed tonight.
A great song can change the world....
So many many many years later yet still sounds fantastic , why didn't this guy become so much more
I assume it wasn't intended this way, but him saying goodbye at the end makes me think he knew this girl wasn't gonna be around much longer and he was just trying to provide a little bit of comfort before she completely self-destructed. Adds another layer to the song for me.
He sang my life 🥺
Stunning, better with age. What a tune and singer.
He still sings great. Even live
Wooow this song makes me cry.... Love the 90s, I wish go back in that time... Quiero regresar el tiempo :(
It astonishes me that this only has 2700 views. Great voice all these years later
I was driving through the 117 and 640.
When I heard this.
Beautiful song.
And it brought me back to when I was18.

I can't even express how happy this makes me. Thank you handsome.
I’ll never stop loving his voice
The amount of soul in this song gets me every time. Shawn's voice made it stand out all those years ago, but the message and emotion made this song stay in my head.
A raspy baritone with range and the soul of a 1600's troubadour....never goes out of fashion.
Hearing this in the fall of 1998. Brings back so many good memories of my childhood.
Awesome!!!!

I didn't think his voice could get more soulful, hauntingly beautiful, but here we are 💖
His voice has aged like fine wine!
So beautiful.... Brings tears to my eyes. I have loved this for years...
The 90's were far ahead of anything else. Ever. The 60s are the only decade that come near it.
This song has always moved me on a soul level. Thank you Shawn Mullins.
❤ that story telling voice.
This song gives me shivers. Love it man
Always loved this pure simple Gem,a fine Artist and performer
Thank God Shawn has taken good care of his voice. He sounds exactly like the record after all these years.

So I left a comment on the original song (and video, which I'd never actually seen before) but WOW time has been good to Shawn Mullins, I LOVE this version.
Just watched Michael blasting this song on The Office, instantly checked UA-cam for a live video and now I’m here, loving life. Such a great song.
Damn this song sounds good ❤
how is it possible that his voice here sounds better than on the radio?!?!?!
A perfect song right there....
This song is seered into my psyche. his voice is magical.. I love this song

This is a song with a message about life. And maybe even even more beautiful than the original recording. So great.
The perfectly synchronized guitar work in this song is amazing. The steel string play by Mr Mullins is also amazing.
I love the song
Wow! Just wow!!!
Does not get old. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic performance guys! You played it live, but it sounded as on a record and had a swing even without drums! Very good.

What a beautiful voice.

He still has the voice 😁👍
He makes it so like he's just strumming, but he's actually doing some interesting picking.... and sings on top of it.
What a voice♡♡♡
Keep it up Sir :)
Loved this song when it came out and love it now. But, why didn't you call it Rock a by?
🙌🏾🙌🏾🔥❤️
Sounds even better with age like Whiskey

I wonder if Dennis Hopper heard this song before he passed?

Excellent comment. I am with you.
It may be tuned down, not sure, but he still sounds great
That Duesenberg sounds great
Is this folk rock
Patton Oswalt on bass??? Dang. Impressive. And Shawn's voice is still spot on.
I want to know where he got his hat.
I bet he could do a great Jack Nicholson impression.
Nashville
It's kinda like LA
With a twang
Fixed it
yeah he sings better now always been good but much more melody now
He sounds like thanos. 😂
He sounds EXACTLY like Shawn Mullins
Man didn’t know John Malkovich can sing
Is it just me or does the bass player look like a man sized dwarf?
I LOL'd at this..
Idiot
What a song.. one of my favorites ever!!!
good thing he talked a song when he was young so he can sing it now .. gosh getting old is dumb
