    Mare Nostrum was the Roman name for the Mediterranean sea. Mare Nostrum translates to "Our Sea", so called by the Romans because they had conquered everything around the Mediterranean Sea, and as such, it was their sea. Hence, Mare Nostrum.

      @@communistdeer technically, yes, some part of southern France and East Spain (today) was under the newly formed Germanic kingdoms. But in reality no one could challenge them at Mediterranean Sea so de facto they could be considered full control of it. Credit to where credit is due, after them none could ever control the Mediterranean Sea that much, not even the Arabs nor the Ottoman. For other example, we say "the British empire ruled the wave" although technically they couldn't control the wave of water, and figuratively a lot of other nations had good navy as well so the British couldn't really "ruled" these nations, but still we say it that way because the British navy was the best of the world, far ahead of any nation after them. Also, the Byzantine empire were the continuation of Roman empire,thus a lot of things would be carried to the Eastern empire, so it's not suprised that they would call Mediterranean Sea "Our sea" even when not control full of it.

    • @KGWyzel
      @KGWyzel 3 роки тому +7

      @@jeremyong4646 Theres a reason for that. Around 1050, a large group of Normans invaded Sicily for the Pope as it was being occupied by a particularly powerful Muslim Caliphate, and after driving the Muslims off of Sicily the Pope rewarded the Norman Campaign Leader the title of "King of Sicily", that King was "King Roger" your faction leader as Sicily in Medieval II at the start of the game.
      So technically at the start of Medieval 2, Sicily as actually a mix of Normans, Italians, and Muslims; which is represented by the normal Italian Roster, The Unique Muslim Archers, and the Special Norman Knights.

    It's Latin indeed.
    The song sounds spanish, a lot. Mainly because of some instruments. I like it.

    Mare Nostrum means 'Our Sea', I thought?

  • @MarcusDarkstar
    @MarcusDarkstar 11 років тому

    It does. But it is another name for the Mediterrean Sea since the Romans called it "Our Sea" since their empire spread across it and dominated it.

    Ah, I think "Death Lullaby" is more Spanish. This one does have a Spanish feel too though.
