I recommend syringe filling a pilot cartridge for your vanishing point. Those hold a very decent amount of ink and are perfect for longer writing sessions. Don't bother with the pilot converters.

Micro mesh and brash sheets can get rid of the scratchiness, it's normally called tuning. x

Gorgeous collection!! I LOOOVE the soothing and feminine vibe of this video! Such elegance! I totally love all the neutral tones🥰 I'm soooo excited to see how your pens and inks change with the seasons!
I am a newbie to the hobby myself and I too love the feminine design of the Sailor pens, I've not yet splurged on them but they are definitely up there with Benu as far as some of the prettiest and most feminine pen designs! 🥰
That Pilot Vanishing Point is so sleek and gorrrrgeous! It has been on my list from the first time I started looking into fountain pens!! Yes, taste!!!!❤️
That Benu Caramel Latte is 😍 and Yule Log is SO PRETTY, the shimmer in it is stunnnnning. I definitely want a full bottle when it's released!
The fountain pen hobby is my favorite hobby in forever too!! Just so casually glam and crafty! ❤️

FWP Stroke of Midnight is shimmer heavy, so these inks are best with higher flowing feeds more found in affordable pens than high end pens. I have Preppies, and a Pilot Parallel for these types of inks.

You can use a brown paper bag to smooth the nib a bit. Just draw some “trees”. Lol. It worked for me.

What fun! We are total opposites. I came late to thrifting, but have been writing with fountain pens for all my life. We weren’t allowed ballpoints in my first few years of school, and I just never changed. And you prefer earth tone coalition colours while I go with the force of brightness.

Had the same scratchy nib with my Lamy. I thought it was the nib, but I tried a more wet ink and it wrote smoother. The best match i found is pilot iroshizuku tsukushi -- i am going to try another pilot ink to see if it will be the same.
As for the converters, i stopped buying them esp the ones for pilot (con40) and just re-use the cartridge to fill with the ink samples I have. The syringe is way cheaper 😉 than converters.

agree. i find lamy nibs are very ink sensitive. once inked an ef with noodler's apache sunset and it was so scratchy i was ready to throw away the nib! but then i re-inked it with organics studio's nitrogen, which as you know is supposed to be a difficult ink, and it wrote so smooth and wet. wild!

Oh my, you have to get the Pilot 823 in Fine (the smoothest Japanese fine ever!) and the Platinum 3776 in Medium just glides on paper like ice. However, for the Platinum 3776 in fine, while it's not butter smooth it is the finest of all like Japanese EF. I love them all equally, but the Pilot is my baby. The clear pilot is a Japan exclusive, but I personally went with amber, it's just a timeless look. I loved hearing your thoughts, thank you for sharing a part of your new fountain pen adventure 😊

what dry ink would you recommend for a M nib TWSBI Eco? I just received it and I am not loving it, but maybe I am going through what you did. I currently have yu-yake iroshizuku and it is just too much ink when I write with it. Love your videos!

I was also disappointed with my Sailor Progear Slim at first. The ink that "fixed it" is Pilot Iroshizuku Sukyo. I think the Sailors require very good quality and lubricated inks.

I have had luck with using micromesh (you can get it from Goulet Pens) to get rid of the scratchiness with a nib, just take it slow and do some figure-eights on it and it may help. Thanks for sharing, love that Three Kings ink :)

does yr visconti suffer from inconsistent ink flow? if so maybe stick with the cartridge and just refill it with flowier ink (or use a different/new cartridge). i have a van gogh which looks practically identical to your venus and suffered from ink flow problems caused by the visconti converter. either the ink can't flow inside it or the nipple can't attach properly to the section. i have bought a new (better) converter but haven't tried it since the cartridge is working ao well and refilling it with a syringe turns out to be so easy. 😀

Thank you for sharing your candid and simplistic thoughts on fountain pens and your collection, I found myself thinking the same thing as I listened to you! And I'm so excited for your husband and you when he shops for you both! Will you be video calling the shopping together? ^_^ as for recommendations, I just got the platinum century 3776 in medium and it's so smooth! I love it. The fine might also be smooth but with more feedback. I don't quite like cigar shaped pens, but the century 3776 might change my mind on pens that are said to be super amazing (yes I'm looking at you pilot custom 823!)

If you like to watch Kaweco Sport collections, check out Pens and Tea. She has like 12+ of them. If you like blue-black, try out Diamine Oxford Blue. I love dark blue, kind of like denim like blue. True blue-blacks have a tinge of green in it. Oxford Blue also shades well. Lastly, if you like smooth nibs. Faber-Castell makes some of the best steel nibs, and Pelikan. Pelikan is probably my second favorite. Their gold nibs are BUTTER. A word of caution and advise I give to all the newbies out there. Figure out what you like and buy within those parameters, or what happens is you end up with a lot of pens by the time you really find out what you like, which I find are thicker sections and wetter nibs.

Ferris Wheel Press is a Canadian company, BUT their fountain pens are made in Shanghai. I found this out after I bought and did a video on the FWP brush fountain pen. Now, I love Chinese fountain pens. Don’t get me wrong. I love Nawhal and Jinhaos all day. But FWP leads people to believe their pens are made in Canada, and that’s not the truth.

Lamy is suffering from its own success on their F nib Safaris. If you live near the store that you purchased it, they tend to replace it for free. Otherwise, go to a pen show for supplies, and look for a micromesh pad to tune your pens.
