  • Following the recent unboxing video on the WheelTop EDS TX Road transmission groupset, I have finally built it up with the TIME Alpe d'Huez 2023 Disc frameset through One Bike Asia Singapore.
    So far the bike has gone through one club ride and commute to work with me. The ride review for the TIME ADH23D is still in its early days, the usage of the EDS TX does provide adequate amount of feedback to do this first review and conclusion about its value against performance.
    Unfortunately, I am currently healing from COVID infection thus an in person review is not possible. I have tried my best to input my audio review to the best of my throat can muster. Pardon me please, thank you.

    EDS today has confirmed that the front derailleur can support 54T front chainring. There is an unofficial source quoting that a 55T/42T build is also workable.
    Hope this works for those intending to go that way.

    Please pardon me I am struggling to cope with COVID as of the release of the video. I know many are waiting in the wings to find out if this will be the next wireless drivetrain to buy. So I just tried all I could to make this video up with limited voice.
    Thank you.

    I would add the ability to calibrate to different speed options e.g. 11spd as a big plus. Interesting to see if they add TT shifting and optional sprinter type buttons. I could see some kind of modification to their mtb shifters for the TT/Tri market working. Anyway, top job 👍

    For Shimano should be added weigh battery and electric cable and weigh Shimano should be about 100g rams higher.

      Not that I heard of at the moment. The key thing now is to ensure that the EDS TX is a reliable enough product to be confidently mass retailed.
      We can take the lessons from how Sensah got their Empire shifters fixed before pushing out the 1X groupset.

    I also wish to add that there is a quirk with the shifting. On the large ring there seems to be a software design preventing shift to the last 2 largest gears likewise the small chainring does not allow you to shift into the first two smallest gears.
    I believe this is designed to prevent cross-chain gearing. Maybe there is a switch in the mobile app I have not discovered to unlock it. Anyone who has the information please share with us.
    Thank you.

      Interesting, I guess if a front mechs not paired this wouldn't activate, if you ran the system as a 1x.

      That's bad, i often use big big for short periods if you just need to power up a small incline....then drop back down the gears

    • @TaichoCyclist
      @TaichoCyclist  3 місяці тому

      Now for large ring full spread shifting is ok. Only in small ring does the first 2 smallest is moved up to 3rd to prevent chain slack.
      Somehow the derailleur seems to have sorted itself out after a few rides.

    Does the WheelTop EDS connect to a Wahoo / Garmin headunits so I can see the current gear ratio?

    • @TaichoCyclist
      @TaichoCyclist  3 місяці тому

      The integration is dependent on the bicycle computer companies to collaborate with component companies. The EDS TX so far to my knowledge has no collaboration with any of the computer companies. In future, who knows so until then its not possible to integrate.

    Hi, I jumped and bought the EDS TX rim brake version and I’ve a few questions on the app; 1) my IOS version is not showing battery level, any idea how to get that visible? Everything is paired and I can shift gears with the app but the battery indicator seems to be under where it says "Add Device".
    2) my app will not swap the shifter button functions (which one goes up and down the cassette), it changes on the app but doesn’t change the levers themselves. Any idea how to sort this?
    3) Is there a reset function to go back to the defaults if the tuning is not successful? Might be handy to restart from a common position.
    I’m find the app is the weakest part of the package and as it’s a major part of the system it’s hurting the experience.

      How are you liking the EDS?

    • @MrJwmurph
      @MrJwmurph 2 місяці тому

      It's great so far, bit tricky to set up, especially the front mech. I still can't get that set howvid like but not too bad as long as I don't cross chain. I had issues with the rear at the start but swapped the chain from KMC to Shimano Dura Ace and was perfect after that. Both new chains but smoother with Shimano, that surprised me. The brake cables that are included need a lot of tightening in the calipers, they slipped with my normal torque.
      The rear mech is really fast, I've also Ultegra Di2 and the EDS is easily as fast. The front is not so quick.
      I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the groupset, when they sort the app out and do a firmware update on the front it will be even better.

      @@MrJwmurph I thought that EDS had a similar function to auto trim?
      yeah I am having a hard time deciding between the EDS, LTWOO eRX, or SRAM Rival.
      Choices choices choices.

    • @MrJwmurph
      @MrJwmurph 2 місяці тому

      It does but in big/ big there is still some rub on the front cage. I don't use that combination but I can't tune it out. It's a good groupset but I'd only go for it on a rim brake bike. 105 Di2 disk is heavily discounted at the moment and the cost is too close for the EDS to compete.

    • @TaichoCyclist
      @TaichoCyclist  26 днів тому +1

      I would not be able to answer confidently for Garmin as my unit is a Bryton. However if your Garmin is capable of displaying gears, not harm trying to detect and link up with your EDS TX.

  • @OlegsKop

    What about autotrim for front derauleur depending on rear derauleur position, like shimano have, does this group have it?

    • @TaichoCyclist
      @TaichoCyclist  4 місяці тому

      The front derailleur seems to use a unique design for the cage to offset chain crossing. The front of the cage is narrow to guide the shift while the back is wider to allow stretching across the cassette.
      I did not see autotrimming happen for the front derailleur. Its just shift up and down, that straight forward.
      Nevertheless, once you get the calibration spot on the shifts are just good.

    • @OlegsKop
      @OlegsKop 2 місяці тому

      @@bobareturned It works )) There is weird adjustment for the rear cassete, but i made almost all derauleur shifts equal by numnbers, and it work perfect. Need to do some small adjutment when chage weels. There was no need for this adjustment with mechanical group, but now it take like 2 minutes, so it is ok. When riding on rough tarmac, I wuld like to have more ''clicky'' buttons. I mean, you feel wnen you press button, but something missing, I bellieve, it is personal. Ergonomic is perfect for me. A bit pain in the arse to get to the bleeding port on shidter because of strong rubber, but there is nothing imposible. Overal - I am Verry hapy with this purchise, what is not comoon for me. It cost every peny what you pay for it. Verry good group.

    How is the braking with the standard calipers?

    • @TaichoCyclist
      @TaichoCyclist  3 місяці тому +1

      Rain aside, they grabbed in a secure manner and confidently in faster stop situation. Some squealnin rain with standard pads. Maybe an aftermarket or better performing pad might be quieter in the wet. Oh yes, they are the Shimano 26mm road pad styled.
