I was so sad D'Angelo didn't perform, he's my fave and reminds me of Prince a lot talent wise. But the show was great to me. My life was given to me by Bey/Kendrick, Bilal, Sheila E & JHud.
That was a smart move at least they got Sheila E. someone who was very close to Prince and have the same type of love and respect for real music and showmanship

I'm not a Beyoncé fan BUT, I can say she did the damn thing with that performance but I honestly believe they had to pay her a good ass amount of coins to come cause y'all see she bounced after she performed, 2. The only good parts about the BET Awards was Beyonce & Kendrick Lamar for the opening and the random Prince tributes throughout the night!! BET should have designated a 40-45 minute segment to Prince. Is it me, but where was D'Angelo (so they're gonna pretend like they didn't advertise him)?! I loved Jennifer Hudson (yes she was loud, but overall, it was good). Bilal did a DAMN GOOD JOB!! Maxwell did alright, & Janelle was terrific too. Sheila E DID THE DAMN THING!! The ending with Mayte, Sheila E, & Jerome... was memorable. My ONLY complaint Morris Day & The Time, Larry Graham & Graham Central Station, & The Revolution were not included.

Nice commentary,....I loved the ending too, with Sheila E and company,.....it was emotional, especially when they had Prince's guitar, and lowered it.....the look on their Sheila E's and Maytes face was so moving! Lmao(who knows if she was really running late for her show in London 😒) She saw and heard us all saying she thinks she's too good for the BET award so she had to show up this year. The whole premise of this years show was black empowerment and shes trying to show that she is here for the movement. Thats why she preformed Freedom. I loved the show and I was live tweeting with you lol. I saw some reviews and comments stating that the show was wack....I'm so confused. But hey, we can't please everybody. The show was litt and I'm so here for BET stepping their shit up.
Actually the going to London for her show was a real thing and because of the time zone, it was already Monday over there. Add that to the over 6 hour flight to get there...it adds up

I loved the BET Awards this year!! I'm a huge Prince fan so having the tributes every hour was awesome for me. While there were some moments that weren't my favorite, I appreciate BET and what they're trying to do. I think the awards were better in the past because more of the music was better. Tracee and Anthony are so adorable. They're that awkward "couple" who still like each other and are comfortable. They're skits were a little cringing but cute. Also, I have to say I saw some negative comments on the show,(not here but on Twitter). We can't run to BET every time and then tell them they're no good when we were just screaming "Oscars so white!" a few months ago. We have to support their shows and put their awards on the same pedestal as a Grammy. One day hopefully, there won't be a need for separation because all will be judged by their talent. Great review, Ashley! As always you're really funny and really fair.

Jimmy Jam was in the audience, but didn't appear to be in the show. Still I thought the Prince Tribute was mostly on point.

She didn't have to be there. She performed at another super bowl years ago and didn't do BET nor did she do BET when the Beyonce album came out and she didn't look bad. People have to remember that these artists are NOT obligated to perform at these award shows

BET did a great job I love the show. I appreciate Alicia Keys performance because it was creative and showed true musicianship. It takes discipline and the magnitude that she displayed was brilliant. That was so rock and roll with that keyboard but she could've left that off. I think people forget that Alicia is not just a musician she is a producer too so she knows how to make beats and compose. She can play alot of different instruments too some people don't even know about. Beyonce did great as well. The Prince tribute was great! I loved all the performances for Prince too. It gave me life !

My question to you is have you seen How To Get Away With Murder? Have you seen the acting scene of how Viola lost her baby during a car crash? Have you seen how she portraits a black woman in a more realistic way by tacking her wig of and being vulnerable. Have you seen how she pulls of suffering from child abuse? She gives more than entertainment, she make's you emotionally invested.

the BET Awards this year seemed so different this year than the previous years like the winners gave lil short speeches, each performer seemed to only perform one song, it seemed a lil rushed to me at least, and the celebrities that you usually see each year wasn't there 😞 it just seemed different to me

Was up with the BET awards always favoring Jennifer Hudson over Fantasia?! For one Fanatsia has her own sound, two: She has platinum and gold albums, three: She isn't a tribute act, four: She's actually known for her own hits and Five: She never sounds like a screeching mess when she performers. But After typing all of that I thought that Jennifer Hudson did an awesome job last night.

Prince Dorian First of I'm Dutch so excuse me that English isn't my first language. Second off all I think Taraji is a good actress, I remember her playing in Benjamin Button and she was good. I just don't think that her character cookie is award worthy. If it was fan voted o well then I guess, but if critics voted I don't get it. Cookie to me just feels like a extension of Taraji's personality they are very similar. I will admit that I'm only have way season one, so I'm maby a bit bias. But come on Viola deserved it more. My question to you is have you seen How To Get Away With Murder? Have you seen the acting scene of how Viola lost her baby during a car crash? Have you seen how she portraits a black woman in a more realistic way by tacking her wig of and being vulnerable. Have you seen how she pulls of suffering from child abuse? She gives more than entertainment, she make's you emotionally invested.

the BET Awards this year seemed so different this year than the previous years like the winners gave lil short speeches, each performer seemed to only perform one song, it seemed a lil rushed to me at least, and the celebrities that you usually see each year wasn't there 😞 it just seemed different to me
Beyonce and Erykah Badu were my favorites. I could have done without the seat of Janelle Monae's pants torn out. I didn't like it when Prince did that and I sure didn't like it last night either. But it is what it is.. Over all it was pretty good.
