when will you ever see a news anchor (back then this guy seemed like a journalist though) TELL THE STATION that they are staying on the air because this is a debate people should hear. I have never seen that I've been alive for 23 years.... i just realised i was born 1 year after this thing was made....there you go!
Frank Zappa owned her, he was the man, he left us too early. Donny had a good moderate point of view, and even Ted was diplomatic and seemed to think Kandy was too extreme.
I been listening to Zappa since I was 12 years old and it did'nt make me violent, mischievious or have any inadequacies of any kind. I finished school and never been in trouble with the law. If a kid wants to listen to a record, he will do so no matter what warning labels are on it. Did the warnings on cigarettes stop kids from smoking? Religion has caused more problems than any saleable commodity.
To be honest most lyrics blew right over my head when I was a kid.Even when I sang along I wasn't giving it much thought unless it was someone like Dylan or Lennon etc.
From watching this debate, which is in fact very interesting and relevant, Frank won but only because he didn't backtrack on any of his points like Donnie or try to change the subject at various times like Kandi. I will say Donnie made the most effective point in regards to the warning labels backfiring on the PMRC which is why you see kids buying so many records that are subversive such as with rap music and all of the "Fucks", "Bitches", "Niggas" and "Motherfuckers" pervading the music industry despite rap music's general lack of musicality although with a few exceptions though debatable at best. Frank Zappa's point of providing a better musical education along with the "little books" he describes is entirely valid, at least from an older perspective in educating children regarding music theory and sex in general; however, it is idealistic simply because not every child has the mental capabilities and discipline of a Frank Zappa regarding musical development along with understanding of aberration in sexual behavior. All of this being said, I do absolutely wish Frank was still alive today since a lot of his perspectives on music and politics are more relevant now than ever, not to mention the fact he was never afraid to stand his ground against anyone.
At least back then, people like Frank were allowed to voice their opinions on national TV. Now you have corporate political outlets that want their voice and only their voice. They don’t want dissenting opinions, as FOX News have shown time and time again over the years.
I don't remember where I got it from, but there was an interview where Zappa told he did a debate with Kandy Stroud and that there were parts cut out, it could be this one but there was also one on Nightwatch, I think it's this one because he doesn't debate very well in Zappa standards.
I hate when people like her say stuff like "parents need to know what their children are watching or listening to". If thats the case why don't they listen to the albums before their kids do and check its okay! If you care so much do it yourself rather than fucking up the whole system because you're too lazy to do it yourself.
yes frank ! grew up with beatle music, then, donny osmond, , discovered alice cooper, from there....zappa !! tell um frank, blasted bored house wives :P
This is a chopped up version where they cut out Zappas rebuttle..they had to edit it to make Donny Osmond's views hit point. These uptight and "shocked" people over lyrical content really is showing how parents have no control over thier children out of fear. Don't spank them, correct them or teach them any morality. Let's force society to do it for them. If they had it thier way, we'd be watching" sesame street" 24 /7..We went from truth TV to fake TV in the span of 20 years..I don't know what to believe..if I have any opinion on something, I get labeled or lectured on a religious level. It's getting way out of hand..our freedom is in jeopardy.
Frank Zappa is the only winner here. Both Candi and the man interviewing both came off as condescending. Donny Osmond sat back a little and took the punch without offering much resistance. Sad that we now consider this tame compared to what we’re doing now in the media.
4:28--4:40 EXACTLY..good one Frank!!! Its kind of funny/strange that behind Frank and Donny its a blank slate and behind the twat there are books. Gee....I wonder if their trying to suggest that she is "educated" and the guys are empty headed.
@SlimeTron5000 sure as fuck is my business what my kid is listening to. Certainly isn't the government or record companies responsibility to do it for me. This sort of lobbying is lazy parenting and artists shouldn't have to pay the price for that. Zappa is spot on that censorship like this is stupid.

Vapid Candy
Donny Osmond actually surprised me in this interview with his insight and open mindedness....pretty impressive for a Mormon anyways.
Samuel Cole i love how he kept calling her Susan. He did make some pretty good points, too

She sure loved going back to that Prince song. I've watched other interviews on this with her and she repeats the lyrics in all of them.
To be honest most lyrics blew right over my head when I was a kid.Even when I sang along I wasn't giving it much thought unless it was someone like Dylan or Lennon etc.

@@KratostheThird Add CNN , MSNBC , ABC , CBS , NBC , DEMOCRACY NOW to the list .
Oh, I forgot NPR .
@@bak-mariterry5180 I didn’t list them because it’s obvious at this point. They all suck.
@probrojeffro He makes perfect sense. You do realize he's on Zappa's side, right? His music may suck but he knows which side to fight for.

Donny is right. Dirty versions outsold clean versions 10 to 1.
"If it smells like a republican it's a republican." Hahahaha, I love Frank Zappa.

Zappa: "Can't tell them apart, can you?"
So true!
it all builds up to the end with ... ZAPPA OWNAGE
lol its so funny to see zappa just destroy these guys in debate, the face they make after he talks is like "shit i just got owned"
This stuff looks so silly today. Having said that, people like Candy are still at it today.
zappa was a fucking genius inside and outside the music industry.
Damn its ends when Frank was making a very important point!
yes frank !
grew up with beatle music, then, donny osmond, , discovered alice cooper, from there....zappa !!
tell um frank, blasted bored house wives :P
Franks music was special and unique.
Underrated as a music performer until more recent times.
Now we praise him as a knowledgeable and musically talented being.
Why is Donny on there? To counter Frank's lack of parental appeal and safety? Sorry, but he just does't make much sense, nor is he very informed.
I didn't watch the news much in '85 because I was only 4. I don't watch it now because the anchors act like they're 4.
Donny Osmond not coming out with a 'G' album? When did he write an album that had something other than 'G' content?
radio stations take Pink Floyd "Money" & The WHo "Who are you" and play re edited versions for ONE SWEAR WORD!!!
Everything Donnie said is what happened metal rules

cause it goes with her cemented hair.
Donny Osmond doesn't know what he's talking about. G rated movies make much more than Rated R movies.
JELLO BIAFRA WAS wrong about DOnnie?
Donny Osmond looks alot like a clean cut Russel Brand
@Dawnlight1 And she used a cement additive in her hair.
haha you can't tell them apart
Ted Koppel was quite useful for Reagan.
Im convinced that Kandy Stroud is an android
@SlimeTron5000 sounds like somebody needs a hug!
ZAPPA FTW AT 4:36! :D
PMRC=Peoples Republic of the Mentally Challenged
4:28--4:40 EXACTLY..good one Frank!!! Its kind of funny/strange that behind Frank and Donny its a blank slate and behind the twat there are books. Gee....I wonder if their trying to suggest that she is "educated" and the guys are empty headed.
Kandy Stroud looks like Dee Snider
Why is she wearing a star trek uniform?
She's a DINO
@Spuweee Ha! Good one-took me a second.
Donny osmond is a prophet...seriously...that's exactly what happened
@SlimeTron5000 sure as fuck is my business what my kid is listening to. Certainly isn't the government or record companies responsibility to do it for me. Donny Osmond being treated as a legitimate musician. Lmao.
donny= Dwight
@SlimeTron5000 Exactly the same with me
it is funny.
