Yes we made a nearly 2 hour video on Death Grips. I know the world is going through some really tough times, but you folks have all given so much love, so I wanted to really thank you all [Death Grips fans and overall Supporters] for giving us the motivation to cook this one up. It's hefty, and we felt it was necessary as this is an absolutely legendary album. As I mention in the video, treat this one like a long-form podcast episode. We hope you enjoy all the hard work Jakob and I put into this one.
Simply amazing...this is perfection in my opinion. Best research and insightful told movie I've ever seen. Wow. This just goes to show when you give your all to your passion. Perfection...thank you and I can't wait for more. Regal State is simply awesome. Keep up the Perfection. Thanks again ...Soul Driver
@@numinoir Appreciated, Jakob the writer who made this one is on a break at the minute so we won't be able to mobilise a Death Grips piece anytime soon, unless I do it. I'm running some interesting pieces myself now, expanding into new territory, e.g. this new long look into this great genre ua-cam.com/video/wyZzWwv6ky4/v-deo.html , so stay tuned, i've got a lot more in stock even if it's not DG
Incredible video. I doubt you’re making a third considering it’s been two years, though I would fucking love hearing you this kind of breakdown of the latter albums especially NLDW and powers that b/steroids/bottomless pit aka my fav three album run. Steroids is basically its own album but without a track list or song names, but it’s clear audibly when one song ends and another begins as people have shown in their edits of the release. Honestly might be some of their best work and Zach’s use of the v-drums is masterful on it
@@RegalState hell yes! Come back and watch these often and appreciate all the hard work going into research on a band that is notoriously difficult to dig into
I feel that the line "your bad ideas are at the ATM" refers more to people buying things which ruin them and the ATM being the tool to make those bad purchases
One other interesting thing realted to the cover. In Beware, Ride sings "beggar on a bitche's leash", which is just a perfect description of the money store cover. Foreshadowing?
this video is absolutely amazing! i love your analysis of ride’s lyricism, definitely great observations and an incredibly tight video all around! hope you end up doing no love and government plates too!
Love this video. The one thing I found I really wanted was audio examples of what you were talking about. But I know youtube is weird about that. Great work :)
The “It’s death!” sample is also used in Turned Off and every time I hear it I want to wreck everything. The Money Store is a perfect album and everything they released after that left me a little cold until that moment
This doc is AMAZING. I was ready to nitpik it to death, but I only caught a couple of things that were incorrect, and so mildly that I forgot what they were. I love the lyric interpretation, as I'm usually pretty bad at that. You made me love a great album even more, and I look forward to further videos on DG. I'll check out your other stuff too.
I think aswell the teaching bitches how to swim could be taken as a reference to the tool song Ænima where in the lyrics to that song Maynard James Keenan repeats the lines learn to swim
Thank you so much....wonderful,inciteful,well researched. I love hip hop, punk, metal, jazz, classic, and opera among a few of my favorite genre. In a time when so much is just a copy of copy of copy, I look for original and authentic music. We're all conflicted and addicted in one way or another and I recognize this struggle in my fellow humans. I love this band!!! I'm so bored with regular hip hop that I can't even take it seriously. These guys, Odd Mob, Wolf, Jpegmafia,to name a few are where I focus my attention now. Be kind, be original, be your self and most of all when you see someone hurting inside...help them if you can. Donate time, love, money or whatever you can in this world gone mad. I can't sit back and do nothing when I see so much poverty and inner conflict. I love everyone regardless of color, creed, republican, democratic, religions, country of origin, sexuality or any reason. Don't judge less ye be judged. Don't throw stones in glass houses. Instead relax, try new things and love not hate. Great job with this research....you rock. Love ya Soul Driver.
I feel like if most gangsta rap glorifies criminality in the same way a lot of war movies glorify honorable combat; then Death Grips would be the equivalent of "Come and See" for hip-hop
this was a wonderful analysis but i think you are missing one main key point about ride's lyrics - mental illness. it's a not as a big theme on the first two albums but definitely later on. i hope you talk about that more!
Noided hive mind non-linear ice cream rider here for the analytics and the babble booster so they slip money in with the mickeys. We say yes, no, yes, yes Galadrial and then applaud in our sleep which was nice.
A lot of work put in this video, but talking about music, used samples etc. without at least few seconds snippet feels bit wrong. Am i supposed to have money store in another tab and stop video to listen every few seconds, or just try to remind myslef sample that you are talking about. That kinda ruins the video for me, but appreciate your work
I replied to this in another comment, but welcome the modern world of copyright issues - we understand your frustrations, but we did this for our Lauryn Hill and Take Care videos by showing each song and literally no one watched those. They come at the risk of complete demonetization and huge extra effort. But watch those two videos and let me know if you liked them

Do Death Grips qualify as horror core? I tend to think not, but they do remind me a lot of Kool Keith's serial-killer personas.
