    Let me start with this my favorite song of all time. It brings me to tears 99 percent of the time. That feel good cry. What makes this song so mystifying IMO, is the pitch their voices hit when singing "Isn't it a shame that such a love must leave!" Without that pitch, it would be a different song to me. Thank you dear GOD that I am old enough to have witnessed such genius in music because it's an absolute wrap now.

      That's an excellent, articulately elegant point you make; 'cause...every generation has to find its own way. But...I fear for the future of Black music, because I don't believe that the tradition is being carried "forward"--in a way that ensures its continual evolution. In jazz?...yes! But, in r&b?...not so much.
      Too many artist are just looking for shortcuts to take--to get the biggest payout.
      There is no longer any "craft" (beyond sampling) involved in the production of r&b anymore. Sadly. 😥

      @@expecttowintv1858 Well, I can't see what that person said to you but listen. Just because you're in the music industry doesn't mean that the original comment isn't fact. Also, what possum said as well. You can't get better & better if you can't handle being critiqued. Young folks are too fragile these days. Less and less people write their own music, sample too much, and don't play multiple instruments. It really does seem like shortcuts are the focus ... unless they're in competitions like American Idol. I can't stand that show anymore, but that's what we're talking about. Black music is getting further & further from giving me chills like this one does.

    Ashley...you are now in dangerous waters.
    Not long ago, you reacted to Gladys Knight and The Pips', "Neither One Of Us".
    I read all of the ensuing comments about how you misinterpreted the song's meaning. Just like this song--THAT song by Gladys Knight also laments the reality that people are faced with--when they realize that they have to part (divorce). There's a good reason why this category of music was created; and why it was subsequently called, "Soul". THAT is the place where the emotions they uncover reside. And THAT is where you feel it.
    One more thing, friend.
    Given your response to this song, I would like for you to consider reacting to a gospel tune. (I'm probably the first to ask for one!!) One in which the artist , (like Patti LaBelle) directs and steers you...emotionally. Soulfully. While I've grown accustomed to your "stop & start" style of commentary--THIS song experience would suffer greatly if you applied that reaction style to it. It needs to be experienced "Uninterrupted".
    The artist is Shirley Caesar; and the song is: "Don't Drive Your Mama Away." Clearly, her and Patti LaBelle know an awful lot about the power of "delivery" when it comes to storytelling.
    I've enjoyed watching your development--as a young person who loves this generation's music. Thank you--for honoring "our" tradition . Respect. 🙏🏾

The lyrics were simple, but the way they sang that song, you youngsters missed the point. It'll give you chills the entire time. They were crying together with that song. Ms. Patti did her thing too. Her backup singers made that song outstanding. Back in the day when people sang their hearts out, instead of screaming lyrics. Point taken.
      But...there's a point where the unnecessary chatter and repeating exactly what has just been said in the lyric--becomes just plain, (pardon me for saying it) "childish".
      It's the equivalent of a toddler coming downstairs to where the adults are--and doing cartwheels; all the while saying: "Look at me!! Look at me!!"
      But, this comes with the territory of reaction videos. Sometimes it's hard for the person doing the reactions to resist making THEMSELVES the center of attention, instead of the music (movie, etc).
      Nonetheless, it IS possible for the viewers to do exactly what they expect from the reactor: provide honest & RESPECTFUL feedback;
      with the hope that the host will consider whether or not it's a "valid" criticism. But...a person's individual level of "maturity" will always determine their capacity for handling criticism--don't you think?
