  • In the new webseries in cooperation with Glidecam USA, Stefan shows the basic movements with the handheld stabilizer from Glidecam.
    In this episode you will get some tips for circle around a object, and how to go up and down.
    A bouns: regards to the first episode, we come back to the "never ever bend your knees", and show some good exercises.
    And my friends once again:
    we all need to bend our knees to walk but not to crouch!
    Stand up straight relax and walk as usual with slight bends in the knees that occur when walking upright :-))
    If you want more on this Glidecam webseries:
    Glidecam Training Vol. 1...The Basic • Glidecam Training Vol....

    Glidecam Training Vol. 4. slow is smooth and smooth is king • Glidecam Training Vol....

    Probably some of the most in depth, highly detailed and wonderfully produced training compilations currently present on UA-cam. I can't say how much value the tutorials you make hold for both indie and even professional grade videographers out there. Thank you so much for both your efforts and your dedication to make these tutorials.

    Excellent video. Interesting contradiction - my Devin Graham Glidecam (same one Stefan uses in this video) came with a video tutorial produced by Devin instructing to bend the knees. My back got tired quickly doing this while a 4.2lb video camera was mounted. Sometimes I think bending knees or crouching is needed to maintain camera height but seems not bending/crouching is best. Still learning, practicing, and finding out the techniques will take time to master. Love the ninja comment.

    • @StefanCzech
      @StefanCzech  5 років тому

      Neil Satterly thanks. But you know, there are so many “master of UA-cam” out there...! Ask them to make a slow and steady shot. And they will fail because, it’s physics.
      Running is easy because of moving mass. Stay trying and become better.

    Is there any reason why mine is so heavy? I can’t hold mine for a minute. Other than weak muscles. But, I’m not a weak guy, I can easily lift weights. But, this is a different type of strength. Is it common to take breaks during a shoot and hold the glidecam with both hands?

      Hi Jcorpus, thanks for Your comment. First of all, let me know what setup you use. How much weight you put on the top-camera side and bottom plate. How high you build up. That’s often the reason for a lot of counter weight.

    Great video tutorial, I have a question - how do you adjust for wind? I have a mic on top of my camcorder that really catches the wind and makes it sway about, is there any way I can stop it from swinging in the wind without taking the microphone off?

    • @seppel523
      @seppel523 8 років тому

      Put some extra weights on the bottom plate. When there is a lot of wind, i think it's ok if the drop time is a bit longer(like 3 sec)

    • @StefanCzech
      @StefanCzech  8 років тому +1

      Hi, what do you mean 3sec. droptime is better when you have a windy day?`Totaly wrong way. Make your system more bottumheavy.

    I don't know how ninjas move but Swat and Military personnel have bent knees when they operate in close quarters. This is to keep the platform for the weapon stable. Bent knees also allow for quicker response to stairs and objects, or when ducking and strafing (lateral engagement of the target) are required. Pointing a firearm is in many ways the same as pointing a camera on a Glidecam.

    • @StefanCzech
      @StefanCzech  3 роки тому +5

      Thanks for you comment. I´m pretty sure, you mixed somethings up.
      An M4 weights around 3,5kg incl. ammunition. Plus an EoTech or Aimpoint reddot on top and you are around 4,3kg. How long takes a raid? 5-10min. over max. distance of 200-300m?
      A normal Glidecam setup like a Smooth Shooter and camera is about 7 to 10kg.
      With bigger cameras between 10-18kg. And that for much longer sometimes.
      The Glidecam will do the stabilization work. Not you knees.
      If you don´t use a stabilizer, like your weapons guys, than „smooth legs“ makes sense.
      Stefan

      +Max G kauf dir ne 550D von Canon und nen XR-1000 von Glidecam. Ein preiswerteres Setup wird es kaum geben.

      Stefan Czech Yep. I've tried more weight. Less weight. Lighter lens. Heavier lens. It only gets worse. It will also spin on its own, even when not walking.

  • @Thevikingcam

    Most important thing is, not to get too light glidecam "knock of from china." (I know, thats what you are thinking about anyway at beginning) Buy heavier one, that stabilizes the combo even more and you guide hand touches wont disturb the combo too much. Also like he does in this video NEVER bend your knees, stand up and walk toe to heel and vice versa. The cup with water is best training.
    Ps, 20 years of walking toe to heel with steadicams etc ;P

      terosyva I bought one of those "knock off" cheap ones (£30) and it's amazing. Once I balanced it, it was just heavenly. It's about the camera man in regards to steadicams

    • @StefanCzech
      @StefanCzech  8 років тому

      +E7Editing HI, depending on you Glidecam model. If you are lucky to have a DGS, you can stripp down any weight and adjust the gimbal only. If you have the new XR Pro, put a weightplate on the camera top plate. So it depends on you Glidecam model.

    • @StefanCzech
      @StefanCzech  8 років тому

      +E7Editing ...put all weight off and extent the center post. If this is not ok, put one weightplate at front and backside of the lower plate. It shoudl work.
      Cheers Stefan

      Hi Omar, ja kann ich; sie ist nicht richtig ausbalanciert. Sorry, aber das war einfach ;-)
      Statisch und dynamische Balance ist wichtig für die Bewegung. Recht einfach zu machen. Ich werde das noch in einer der nächsten Folgen zeigen.

    Sehr gute Tutorials, aber das mit dem Thema Knie ist aus meiner Sicht nicht ganz eindeutig. Natürlich läuft man nicht wie eine Ente, aber man drückt auf der anderen Seite die Knie auch nicht durch, da dies einen kurzen Ruck bei jedem Schritt im Körper erzeugt ... die Knie sind also "leicht" angewinkelt beim gehen, was man auch bei Deinen Schritten sieht :-)
    Weiterhin solltest Du vielleicht noch darauf hinweisen, dass die Finger der linken Hand an der Glidecam zunächst dazu führen, dass die Aufnahmen Ruckler kriegen solange das Feingefühl fehlt. Es hat eine ganze Zeit gedauert bis ich so flüssige Bewegungen hatte wie ohne die linke Hand (natürlich hat man mit der Hand dann mehr Kontrolle wenn das Gefühl erstmal da ist, aber auf die Durststrecke muss man sich erst einstellen).

    Stefan - I have Devin Graham glidecam with a gh4 camera. Two weights each side on bottom and one weight plus extra quick release on top. It balances very nice when standing still but when I move it sways left to right or right to left. Do you have any remedy for this ???

    • @StefanCzech
      @StefanCzech  7 років тому +1

      Ben Fleay hy, yes check the dynamic balance.
      Spinn the vertical axis and it had to Spinn perfect. You don't need the weight on the top.
      The DGS had the adjustability of the gimbal position. That's the big advantage

      Of course you can start with a $100 glidecam. I use a $60 knock off and with enough practice and patience you can get excellent results. You pay for what you get so obviously it will be easier to get better results with better glidecams. It's harder and sometimes damn near impossible to get cheap glidecams balanced perfectly. Cheap ones don't have the ability to adjust where the handle is on the main shaft and don't have nice fat cheese plates with accurate fine tuning adjustment knobs. But as with a lot of stuff, equipment is only a part of the equation.
