It’s interesting Ernie Els in his book how to build a classic swing emphasizes to keep the right knee flexed and to “not bend it in the slightest “ I think it’s to prevent him from over swinging?
I think it was a popular theory to keep the trail knee flexed throughout the backswing in the 90's and early 2000's. The popular opinion was "keep your spine angle" etc. As well, to your point about the "Over Swing". I agree keeping your trail knee flexed will definitely make it more difficult to "over swing". I think your trail arm retracting, lead wrist cupping or extension, upper hinge or radial deviation, excessive hip or pelvis rotation, and excessive shoulder or ribcage rotation are all going to make it easy to overswing. Interestingly enough though, it appears since after the coronavirus that Finau has been trying to increase his club speed and ball speed due to the Bryson "Effect". It'd be interested to see what he does with length of swing going forward.
All golfers had/have flaws in their swings, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Curtis Strange, but they had great results. Jack's swing wouldn't have worked for Curtis, and vice versa, I'm sure. What are the inconsistencies in his results, i.e., % fairways hit, distance, accuracy, etc., and WHY do you think the correction to these flaws, as you see them, will improve his results?
Hello James, In this particular analysis I don't believe I did a strokes gained and stats analysis before the swing analysis. However, in other Professional Golf Swing Analysis's I do. In general I agree, the point is not to fix a flaw because it's a flaw. The point would be to look at a data set and see if we can minimize one to two outliers based on a particular shot he's working on. I can do an updated video going more over the data first and then discussing a more detailed WHY behind my recommended changes. Thanks, -Mike
charly yoo Good to see you on here Charly 👋 Absolutely, I think Finau with better footwork and longer swing would have a club head speed around 135 average easily. He’s got the potential for so much more speed than he’s using 👌
mikesogacademy It’s a shame because I’m with you. At the PGA level, it’s been proven that more distance can make a huge difference versus higher Fairways hit percentage.
If Finau's pressure was on outside of his right foot in BS, his right knee would have shifted right, which is does not. ... proof he weighted his right big toe in BS. It is the only way to prevent sway of the right knee. Tony knows what he is doing.

@@acershund1So every pga players' swing coach is better than the actual pro? Wow, I've never thought of it that way! David Ledbetter is leaving a lot of money on the table!
The crazy thing with golf analysis and swing analysis is it's just that, analysis! Tony is playing at a very high level on the PGA tour with the swing he has right now! For any golf instructor to say they would change anything in his swing and that golf instructor is not on tour at the same time producing better results, is insane! I agree with whoever said if it ain't broke don't try to fix it! Who cares what his feet looks like who cares what his body looks like, who cares if his leg is bent or straight! He hits it further than 80% of everybody on tour. This analysis was unnecessary.
Hello Curtiss, I understand your point and I agree that this was just an "Analysis" mainly for entertainment purposes. If that's not something you're interested in I'd recommend watching another channel. Thank you for your comment and I hope you have a good New Year! -Mike
Narrow stance and it looks like a restricted back swing and generates so much power. Looks like he keeps his rear elbow pinned to his side. I feel if i tried this I'd hit my 3 wood only 180 yards.
thomas donohue I agree ☝️ it’s one of the ways him and his coach has reigned in his swing, and he’s still not a short hitter by any means 😂👌 I still think he could get more hip depth and a better transition and get both accuracy and more power 🥝👊
Best you keep your opinions to yourself. One's you get as good as him then I might listen to you. Typical UA-cam so called coaches. Based on your analysis, you would end up ruining his ingrained swing pattern. I would never hire you to work for me based on your analysis. You have a lot to learn son.
His back swing off the tee is now very short and he has fixed his feet just like you suggested.

Can’t believe this guy went on from “The Big Break” which he lost to where he is now. Just a great story.
Him and his brother came a long way form the Big Break! I'm hoping to see Gipper out on tour one of these days. He's incredibly talented as well.

Great analysis! Do you think he could have Cameron Champ type numbers if he had a wider stance and longer swing?

charly yoo Absolutely 👌 Look at DJ he only hits 58% Of Fairways... Yet he’s the Number 1 Position in Strokes Gained off The Tee 😂👊
mikesogacademy Could you imagine with his touch around and on the greens.
Very well thought out analysis! Being about the same size as Tony, I can apply your comments on the setup and swing to my own game. Thanks!
This swing is my favorite. He barely moves and kills it. If you could teach this swing you would dominate golf instruction.

When you understand the part of the anatomy that is cause of 'sway' , you will understand why this video analysis is totally misguided.
Lets see Mr Cool here play Finau and see who wins.
Flabius Mabius If you could make that happen for me I would be very happy 😃 🥝🙏 One might even say “Cool” 😉
@@KiwiGolfUS haha yes- this guy has no place to chop apart Finau's swing- Finau Would wipe the floor with thisguy Mr Cool
